Eons ago I set up QuicKeys macros for StartBold [ B ] and EndBold[ /B ] and StartItalic [ i ] and EndItalic**[ /i ]** and StartQuote [ QUOTE ]and EndQuote [ /QUOTE ] and so on, so I didn’t have to type out the codes all the time.
I’m currently browser-shopping (I’ve given up on iCab and have more or less ruled out OmniWeb and Opera and am currently just starting to give Safari a tryout) and I haven’t adapted my macros to work in Safari yet. Out of habit, nonetheless, I went Control-i to input the StartItalic code and damned if a JavaScript window didn’t pop up and invite me to type the entirety of what I wanted to italicize, and it surrounded it with the StartItalic and EndItalic code.
How long has this been set up, and on which browsers does it work? Control-B does bold, too. Is there one for quotes?
Quicktest: Italics under Shiira . Cool! (Shiira is yet another OS X browser, based on the same engine as Safari. Except it’s friendlier to single-button ADB mouse users like me. Safari won’t pop a contextual menu unless you hold down modifier keys).
Oh, and as long as I’m here, please insert this at the bottom of my one-line above:
I use Opera and I’m still in the adjusting stage, weaning myself off IE.
I get really irritated when my browser just doesn’t read my mind (dammit!). i.e.: i use trillian and when i get an e-mail notification, it launches Opera (default browser) and says it can’t connect. i wish i could just uninstall IE and be done with it, but there are some functions Opera can’t do (or I haven’t figured out how to do).
back on topic… i thought this thread was about MS Word shortcuts. Didja know that ctrl+E centers text? E? why not C?
Well, a little experimenting turned this up. On my setup, alt-p = preview. Alt-b,-i,-u moves the focus to those buttons. You can then press enter to press the button, but that’s really no better than just using the mouse.
