Ctrl-i --> auto-italics, who knew?

Eons ago I set up QuicKeys macros for StartBold [ B ] and EndBold[ /B ] and StartItalic [ i ] and EndItalic**[ /i ]** and StartQuote [ QUOTE ]and EndQuote [ /QUOTE ] and so on, so I didn’t have to type out the codes all the time.

I’m currently browser-shopping (I’ve given up on iCab and have more or less ruled out OmniWeb and Opera and am currently just starting to give Safari a tryout) and I haven’t adapted my macros to work in Safari yet. Out of habit, nonetheless, I went Control-i to input the StartItalic code and damned if a JavaScript window didn’t pop up and invite me to type the entirety of what I wanted to italicize, and it surrounded it with the StartItalic and EndItalic code.

How long has this been set up, and on which browsers does it work? Control-B does bold, too. Is there one for quotes?

Control-U usually underlines, too.

I played around with all of the Ctrl-key combos on Safari under 10.3.4.

Ctrl-B, Ctrl-I, and Ctrl-U work just like you’d expect, popping up the vBulletin Javascript “Enter the text to be formatted” window.

Ctrl-P previews your post.

Ctrl-S submits a post, with no warning or confirmation.

Maybe this should be in the FAQ, or ATMB?

IE 6, Win98 - that trick doesn’t work, darn it.

Shift + that weird key between the colon/semicolon and enter. What is that key called anyway?

smartass.

Quicktest: Italics under Shiira . Cool! (Shiira is yet another OS X browser, based on the same engine as Safari. Except it’s friendlier to single-button ADB mouse users like me. Safari won’t pop a contextual menu unless you hold down modifier keys).
Oh, and as long as I’m here, please insert this at the bottom of my one-line above:

:stuck_out_tongue:

I use Opera and I’m still in the adjusting stage, weaning myself off IE.

I get really irritated when my browser just doesn’t read my mind (dammit!). i.e.: i use trillian and when i get an e-mail notification, it launches Opera (default browser) and says it can’t connect. i wish i could just uninstall IE and be done with it, but there are some functions Opera can’t do (or I haven’t figured out how to do).

back on topic… i thought this thread was about MS Word shortcuts. Didja know that ctrl+E centers text? E? why not C?

It took me until roughly '99 to figure out CTRL-N.

Well, a little experimenting turned this up. On my setup, alt-p = preview. Alt-b,-i,-u moves the focus to those buttons. You can then press enter to press the button, but that’s really no better than just using the mouse.

And if you read this sentence, alt-s = submit.
