Cubs tickets?!

I’m visiting Chicago on the first weekend of September with my brother-in-law who is making a pilgrimage to Wrigley Field for his 50th birthday. Here’s my question for you locals – what’s the best way to get tickets?! The box office seems totally sold out for one of the two games. Is there a local resale service of any kind? The newspaper? I need a tip, folks!!

I went to a Cubs/White Sox game about a year ago and the tickets were 100% sold out but we went anyway.

We stood in front of the entrance as everyone walked by asking if anybody had extras. Within 15 minutes we had offers for about 10 tickets, but most people were overcharging (which seems silly to me - the tickets would just go to waste if they didn’t sell them).

Anyway, we finally got 3 tickets for $50 total right next to each other.

I know this isn’t what you wanted to hear, but you can use this as last-resort information.

StubHub worked for me when I needed tickets to take my dad to a Cubs/Cardinals game a couple years ago. I haven’t used them since, though.

I’ve had success with StubHub when I was visiting.

I third the StubHub suggestion. There are already some not-awful seats for September 4 and 5 for as little as $20.00, and the site guarantees that the tickets are legit.

If the Cubs’ season continues as it’s going now, there should be plenty of bargains to be had by September.

Another vote for StubHub. They seem to be the conduit of market forces and market prices. I’m surprised it is legal, but there you have it.

I’ve had really good luck with Craigslist several times over, including good seats about a three weeks ago at face value. Worth a shot, in my opinion.

My wife (then my fiancee) got us tickets to the home opener last year via StubHub, and we came all the way from NE Ohio.

They also open blocks of tickets a few days before the games. Games that appear to be sold out months in advance will almost always have tickets available game day. We go to a lot of games. I speak from experience.
