Culture shock and reunion adventures: it's the MMP!

Wow!!! And wow!!! They sound like reasonable conditions to me, FCM. I think it’s really important for her to know how to be independent, even if it’s just for a year. Good thing you like him.

And yay! for FCD and his promotion!

 on the reorg. This too shall pass.

GT

Well, it’s not just a pay raise - he’s being promoted to a management position, plus he’ll have 25 people reporting to him - definitely something that merits some extra change. Besides, he’s very good at his job, and I think they want to make sure he stays.

I know - heck, my sweetie and I didn’t have time to live in sin, since we eloped after 4 whole weeks, but I still think it’s important for her to deal with life on her own. She just got away from the roommate situation less than a year ago, along with the associated aggravation. She needs to be able to live on her own - I truly believe that. I know her fiance is/will be there a lot, but it’s still important that he go home and she have her own space and her own solitude. I’m not demanding she do it for 10 years like I did - just a couple of years. Piece of cake!

I’m pretty sure she won’t be wanting a big, poofy, fairy-tale wedding, which is good. I’d rather give them a chunk of change to buy a house. A wedding is one day - a marriage, if done right, is forever.

Holy cow - I just realized - I’m a soon-to-be mother-in-law!!! Can grandmotherhood be far behind?

FCM - great #s 2 & 3 indeed - and I think those are extremely reasonable conditions to impose on them
SCL - have I mentioned how much Valentino looks like Simon?

Will you become FairyChatGranny? :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats

I think…

I forgot to mention - shoe came off, sock is clean, so definitely no more bleeding

Be very careful with that toe 6 months from now. I dropped a screen door on my left big toe a few years ago, got the blood blister under the nail, then lost it. When it came back it was seriously ingrown, and it was a major deal to get that fixed, If you don’t have a podiatrist, you might want to find one in the next few months.

There’s something about Renaissance Faires that kills car batteries. Not sure if it’s just that people pull in and forget that they left their lights on after driving through one of those “Daylight Headlights Required” sections (What is it about Faires that they always seem to be at the end of a long windy, treacherous road that’s so bad for head-on collisions that you’re supposed to make yourself more visible by turning on the headlights?) or is it that Faire folk tend to drive crappier than average cars with bad batteries? Not sure, but I’ve had to provide jumps to quite a few participants and patrons over the years.

We’re putting together a Renaisance Faire, recreating life as it was, back in something like 1550-1650. So, what occupied several hours of my weekend? Electricity. Stuff that hadn’t even been invented, yet there I was, channeling the stuff to power our refrigerator, a fountain pump, and a computer, plus a bizarre cobbled-together assemblage of a plastic storage tote and a sump pump to shoot greywater from the hand- and dishwashing sinks uphill to a portable sewage tank. I’m afraid to ask if the thing was a product of “wacky tabacky” or a lot of Scotch.

The real laffs come from chaos and clutter - I needed some more wire and a couple of outlets to finish up all the wiring, and our guildmaster said “You know what you need - go buy it and we’ll reimburse you.” So, a trip to the store later, I have all the doo-dads and finish up everything. Not an hour later, someone brings me a box of stuff and asks if this is what I was needing earlier. Yep. We’ll have plenty for next year. :smack:

Hooray for no bleeding!!

So, my future son-in-law just called to ask for my blessing. Rather an awkward conversation, but I was civil. Despite the fact that he wants to take my baby away!!!

TGIM! I just faxed my opening night ticket request in. :crosses fingers: I’m making seafood stew, then I’m having ice cream and beer. I got an email from my Uncle. My cousin has finally been deployed to Iraq. He is stuck in Kuwait. According to him: “It’s hotter then hades balls out here.” At least its a dry heat.

gt, gland you had fun. I have no real intrest in going to a high school reunion. If I want to be harrassed and anoyed, I’ll go to work so I at least get payed for it.

Drae, where are you flying to? I flew to the parents at the end of July, so I got to bring my own toothpaste. :stuck_out_tongue:

VBob, you got to play with fire, and kill things and you call that boring?

zuma, welcome. 4.5 games, what’s that, about 9 points ahead, hockeywise?

Ellen Pie and catfish? sounds yummy!

Mama, dogparks/beaches rock. B5 season two is when it gets real good.

swampy Raises are way more important than appraisals. You can’t buy beer with a “Exceeds expectations”
Congrats to the Fairy Chat Family! Roeorganization is fun. If you work somewhere long enough, they end up doing it the way they did it when you started.

gotti, a Renaisance computer? what did they use, a 486 with Win3.1?

Hi, all. I’ll post more tomorrow but I am way too tired right now.

Hi everyone. I’m finally home, but I’m very, very tired.

I’ve got dinner started, sorta, and we’ll be eating in an hour or so.

Did you all see the article about the guy that got stung to death in Arizona? Good grief! I instantly though to Bobbio and his hordes of bee/hornet/wasp nests. Be careful!

rosie, I’m glad to read that you didn’t have a bloody sock. What’s worse is trying to remove said bloody sock that is now stuck to the wound.

FCM, it sounds as if your future son-in-law is at least doing the right thing by asking for your blessing. He may turn out to be alright.

As far as your daughter being independent and living on her own for awhile, I have to admit that’s probably a very good thing.

Additionally, I kinda figured that FCD probably had extra responsibilities to go along with that raise. However, you and I both know that as gov employees, we don’t receive 20% raises to go along with our extra responsibilities. At any rate, I think it’s very impressive and speaks volumes about your hubby.

Wednesday is my mother’s lumpectomy and sentinel node removal. I’m thinking positive thoughts.

My daughter’s friend also goes home on Wednesday. Don’t get me wrong, he seems to be a nice enough fellow, but I’m ready to go back to my normal routine. Also, my daughter and he really seem to LIKE each other. We’ve been keeping an EAGLE eye on both of them. Last night he asked if he could come over before the hubby got home. I told him that probably wouldn’t be a good idea.

We’ve got school starting for the kids soon and there’s shopping and registration to be done yet. Agggh!

I better check on my pots now.

Actually, I worked in this same place in the late 90s - we’re kinda going back to the way it was done then…

Chatted with my daughter for a little bit. She says they have no intention of shacking up - yay! And she’s gonna send me a pic of her ring. And they don’t want a big wedding - they want to be married by Fred. Fred is a notary and a friend of theirs. In FL, a notary can officiate. I know - we were notarized!

Plus they’re considering our offer of living here for a while so they can save some money. But that’s still a ways off.

I’ma gonna go to bed now. What a day!!

Woohooo FairyChatFamily! Congratulations. I think your stipulations are fine. How long have they been dating and how old is your daughter? Not that age matters very much to me- I was married young. Wait, I’m still young. Anyway, I’m just curious.
Sleepy. Work was less boring. I was kind of hoping Attacks Husband would be around, but if he’s too tired [sub]sniff[/sub] after a fourteen hour plane trip [sub]sob[/sub] that’s fine!

Now, now, don’t think of it as losing your baby; think of it as gaining…another baby.

But, as Taters said, he seems to be doing things right. Asking for your blessing says he actually understands how important you and FCD are.

dogb, this is the first of my reunions I’ve been to and I actually went to it with as much of an “I don’t care” attitude as I could muster. I wasn’t part of the in-crowd in high school, but generally had a pretty nice class. If no one had wanted to talk to me, I would have left and not been horribly wounded, but it worked out quite well. I wound up talking to several people who wouldn’t have given me the time of day in high school as well as people I actually hung out with. The biggest disappointment was that it was pretty badly organized, so we didn’t really have enough time to talk to many people and could hear people talk very well because the place they had it at was very echo-ey. (Wow, that’s lots more than I thought I had to say…)

Oh…and retro-reorgs…I can completely relate. Our current “new” organization is pretty much where we were in the early '90s. Executives should really understand that there are generally a finite number of organizational models and their “new and brilliant” idea is probably going to be experienced as recycling by at least a few of their employees.

Good that you talked to your kid too, FCM. From everything we’ve heard here, she’s a good and sensible kid, so it’s not surprising that her plans are pretty much in line with your expectations.

Taters, hang in there with the guest. At least he’s been reasonable. If they really do like each other a lot, you’ll be seeing him again (and again and again…). So it’s good that you’ve made the boundaries very clear on the first visit. You can always loosen them up a bit if you get more comfortable with him, but making sure there are clear guidelines from the start was an excellent strategy.

Hi mika!

Glad for the no-blood-on-foot, rosie.

GT

Hi everybody! Great OP, gt! I’ve never been to a reunion - I have no desire to see the people from high school anymore. It wasn’t the best of times for me. Dopefests are fun, though! I’m glad your car was easily fixed.

I finally got all caught up on today’s MMP - I’m glad I’m going back to work tomorrow so I can rest after this busy weekend!

Friday I went to two doctor’s appointments and had lunch with my dad.

Saturday Mr Rebo and I went to a home show, which was kind of small, so we left and went to see Snakes on a Plane! Woo-hoo, what a fun movie! Then Dad took us to dinner at a steakhouse. Yummy.

Sunday I grocery planned and shopped, and took some groceries over to my son’s apartment. I know, I know…

Darling son of mine lost his wallet AGAIN so today I took him to the driver’s license place AGAIN to get a new ID. (He doesn’t have transportation.) But we had a nice visit while we waited 3 frickin’ hours in line. He’s reassured me that he will have rent money for September. Yay! ('Cause I buy the stoopit groceries. :frowning: I can’t help it! I worry too much.) All the college kids have left and he’s getting a lot more hours at work now - he worked back to back doubles Saturday and Sunday.

Congrats FCM! Try not to worry too much. They’ll be fine!

Oddly enough, a 1.7 GHz Centrino laptop running Windows XP, and with a mag card reader. I’m hoping the faire production company might let me hop onto their WiFi so I can do instantaneous credit card approvals. Otherwise, I have to “batch” them and run them all on Sunday night once I get back home.

Hi all - drive-by post! Nice OP, gt and I’m glad the car is okay!

Really busy work week so far, plus my pregnant body has decided that 7 weeks gestation is a good time to start making my life a total misery with the whole kit and kaboodle of exhaustion, cramps, morning sickness AND enormous, very sore boobs! Post later!

I have some kind of flu, not the barfing/trots kind, but a body ache-brain squeezing kind. I skimmed the OP, good times huh, gt? I hate automobiles of any sort at this time in my life, I would prefer to bum rides than have to deal with ownership. Good thing I live in a tiny town and have friends.

spats as far as my #2 daughter is concerned, here is a link to a photo, you tell me what you think! ThePeach

Oh, and for swampy, to make up for the kitten photos a month ago, here’s one for you: puppy

Hopefully I’ll be feeling better tomorrow, although since I am already behind two pages I doubt that I’ll catch up this week.

Night all!

Sorry you’re not feeling well, kai. Your daughter looks lovely, and that puppy is a cutie.

Even having taken Monday off, I’m feeling like the work week started too soon!!! But, off I go.
