Pizza is eaten, dishes are put away (ok, paper plates and napkins thrown away) and ACBG is taking a shower. Hmmmm… looks like he has designs on making me pay for that pizza after all.
What? We haven’t had any real TMI at all so far.
Truth is, I have been up since a quarter to four this morning. I woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. Right now, if I so much as look at my bed I think I’ll fall asleep.
Ok, I hear a thunderboomer startin’ up. Time for nighty nite! Bye!
I just want each and every one of the Cool Kids to know: I love you all to pieces and miss you like crazy. Even those new ones whats don’t know me.
Hey! You know how I take the boys canoeing (or “canoing” if you don’t know how to spell)? Yeah. We did it again this weekend past. No one was kicked into the river to be eaten by turtles. And we had ice cream for afters. So it was a good day.
I will admit it freely - I failed my road test the first time. It was mainly due to signs, and one very badly-labeled one-way road that turned into a two-way halfway through. I was pretty upset at the time.
Got a call from the dentist office today - my crown hasn’t arrived, so my appointment tomorrow has been postponed. I’m kinda ticked - putting it off just gives me more time to dread it.
Got 68 reminder cards for the Booster Club meeting stamped and mailed. Mailed off a book requested from the paperback swap club. Made more beads. Glazed more beads. Baked beads. I’m getting sick of beads. Read web sites on how to make different beads - there was a great tutorial on how to make rainsticks, so I think I’m going to try that.
Lots of thunder and lightning here, but no rain. We need rain.
I’m pretty good with the signs as I’ve been studying the books from the DMV off and on for years. It’s just the actual driving that has been problematic. I don’t think I’ll have too many problems with the road test, but it doesn’t do to become overconfident.
It rained hard for a couple of hours today and I think it’s supposed to rain some more the rest of the week. Then we’ll have to mow the grass at last.
Rue know what’s fun about canoeing around here? Not falling out of the canoe and being eaten by gators! It just adds to the thrill. I have some Bluebell’s Double Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream in the freezer. I haven’t eaten any yet and so far, ol’ y’all know who hasn’t noticed it. I’m trying to see how long I can go before opening it. I predict as far as tonight. I bought it Monday.
I’m gettin’ my do did after work today. I look shabby. Also, I have to go to Miami for a couple days next week, so natch, there’s a tropical depression out in the Atlantic. It’ll probably turn into a hurricane Sunday evening and head right for the Embassy Suites in North Miami where I’ll be staying.
Is a tropical depression a sad cloud in a Hawaiian shirt?
Morning! Here, Tel, it’s one written and two road tests. At least. It might be three. It’s stupid, and the quality of driving isn’t noticeably improved, just the amount of money the government makes.
If it’s a female td it wears a muumuu, flip flops, real big sunglasses and a big straw hat. If it is a male td, it wears a Hawaiian shirt, Bermuda shorts, knee high black socks, sandals and a Panama hat.
No, not like that. I know the signs. This is how it happened:
I came up to a street. The guy said to make a left onto Brown Street. So as I was looking at brown Street, on the right-hand side of the intersection was a One Way sign.
So I made my turn. Directly to the right of me, on Brown Street, on the other side of the intersection was another sign, saying Brown Street was now a 2-way. I missed the sign or didn’t see it. He told me to make a left on the next light, and I pulled to the left as you’re supposed to on a one-way and the guy nearly freaked. And of course he failed me.
I still think he’s a tard. I know he had no other choice but to fail me but he made me take the whole test. I had to parallel park, make a 3-point, the whole thing. ANd then he said “You know I have to fail you, right?”
Tard. I went home and told my mother once, coherently, then when she didn’t understand it the first time, burst into tears. Now that I look back - what a silly thing to cry over.
I ended up getting my license in August of '92, and drove through the horrible, horrible winter of 92-93 - 17 snowstorms in February alone without any accidents. I got one ticket a month after I got my license. I was speeding, but the officer took pity on me and reduced it to a seatbelt violation.
Since then, in 13 years of driving, I have been in one accident and the guy hit me - I was slowing down for a light. I’ve never had a speeding ticket. I want to kick that tardo guy sometimes…see? I am a good driver and your silly rules are, well, silly.
If you mean “of Assissi”, it’s Ciara in the original (pronounced KeeAHrah)
I like Clara, Ana, derivations of Alexander (for both sexes), Miguel (Michael), Carlos (Charles). I’d try to avoid calling a daughter of mine Mary-anything, simply because there’s so many of us around in Hispanic culture, but I also wouldn’t choose a foreign name unless it’s the name of a relative on her Pa’s side.
I love the look on people’s faces when I tell them that the Spanish version of their widdle Jennifer’s name is Ginebra (same as gin-the-drink). You oughta have half an idea what the name means and whether there’s a version in your own language.
Since the SIL refused to name her baby Jaime after my father, which would have been “required” both by her family’s tradition and mine (she almost got murdered when, at the baptismal pile, she said it was her father’s middle name… which he got just for being born on that day, it wasn’t chosen by SIL’s parents… and btw my Bro didn’t know that tidbit either), in the unlikely event of me ever having a boy it’s going to be Jaime. Lilbro’s name is Jaime too: SIL used this as an excuse to wiggle out of calling The Nephew Jaime and Lilbro said, when she left, “am I the only one who thinks that’s stupid excuses? I mean, we’ve never had a tradition of naming the son after the father… I got Jaime 'cos the other names you liked were taken!”
Ciara is lovely. I meant to tell you, LiLi, that my daughter IS named for St. Clare; I’m just stubborn and want to spell it like I want to! I figured St. Clare wouldn’t mind! My daughter is thrilled that she’s the patron saint of television! (To you non-Catholics: IT’S TRUE.)
I just found out that some video that was shot of Baby Cherry, my husband and I for a program we’re doing made it into the final program! It’s called Art to Heart, and it’s about arts education for wee ones. There’s a lot of research behind it. Anyway – I thought there was just going to be video in the open, but nope! We made it into the B-roll! Whee! (That’s video over someone talking, usually.) (I work for a public television network; we produce a lot of programming. www.ket.org)
