Without pressing too hard on the whataboutism pedal …
I’m not aware of what effect Cuomo’s or Lemon’s alleged actions – wrong though they may well be, and possibly with the malignant complicity of their employers – had on what they did or did not report (reiterating that they’re entertainers first, and not journalists, per se, in their current/former roles).
And those actions – at least in Cuomo’s case – did result in arguably the harshest punishment: termination.
Should he have been allowed to report on his brother in fairly significant stories ? Not IMHO. But this is their opinion/entertainment arena, and ratings and money matter more than journalistic ethics*
But I am aware of the consequences of the network-sanctioned misinformation put out by FOX (didn’t they also hire Brazile, long after hiring that noted racist, Mark Fuhrman ?), particularly as regards COVID and the 2016 Presidential election.
So … yeah. I’m reminded of the words of the late, great George Carlin:
I see the radar tonight is picking up a line of thundershowers, which extends from a point 9 miles south-southeast of Chester, Pennsylvania a along line and 6 miles either side of a line to a point 8 miles north-northeast of Secaucus, New Jersey.
However, the radar is also picking up a squadron of Russian ICBMs (weapons), so I wouldn’t sweat the thundershowers
“After a thorough and careful review of the allegations,” parent company 21st Century Fox said in a statement, “the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.”
There must be some kind of virus going around at CNN. Chris Cuomo’s CNN producer is accused of luring mom and nine-year-old daughter to his Vermont ski home to ‘train’ the minor to be sexually submissive
If that guy took adventage of minors I hope he faces every legal consequence. And that was easy to say! I didn’t have to check in with lawyers or consultants or anything. Golly, I’d never fit in were I to try and become a part of fauxworld.
And this is exactly why I don’t take your position on CNN being the worst all that seriously. Remarks like this show you’re in it to poke fun and aggravate rather than discuss the situation.
Nothing at all suggests that CNN prefers hiring sexual predators. What we see here is that, when they found out someone was a sexual predator, they fired him. That’s the opposite of wanting hire such a person.
These sorts of mocking statements that have a kernel of truth but bend it beyond recognition are exactly what I find so utterly frustrating. It’s ultimately just smear tactics.
And that’s worse than what you’re accusing CNN of. So attacking them rings hollow.
Which is largely why Fox does better ratings-wise than the other two. Their target audience of conservatives is attracted by zero-information confirmation-bias porn, while the liberal audience is turned off by it.
The worse Fox gets, the more conservatives like it; the worse CNN gets, the less liberals like it.
Jesus. It was a joke. This board is full of jokes, complaints criticisms and snark about Fox News. Surely you can handle a little joke about another network.
