Current Weather: Fair and -27°F

-27°F can NOT, in any way, shape, or form, be considered ‘Fair’.

This is disgusting.

Well, you should have picked a nice, southern state to live in. Like Missouri. Not w-a-a-a-y up north in Iowa. See, here at dawn it’s a nice, balmy -3 F…and we’re supposed to get up to 20 today. SWEEEEEEEET!!

20? Positively tropical …

wanders off to get some sun block an cute little umbrella drinks …
It is supposed to get to a whopping 0 here today, it is -9 right now. No idea of the wind speed since I am inside looking out and I do NOT intend to stick my nose out of the toasty warm room …

edited to add picture of the view from my desk … toasty!

One of our thermometers said -25 this morning; the other said -30. I think that’s cold enough thankyouverymuch. It’s supposed to get all the way up to +3 today.

It’s -11F/-24C right now, but it feels like -29F/-34C. A guy in a nearby town fell off his porch, hit his head, and then died from exposure yesterday.

The high today is supposed to be 8F/-13C.

This is craptacular. We’re living in a society here!

55.5 here in AZ. The house is at 69 degrees and I just turned the heat on. Brrrr.

Ha ha. Just a month ago I was telling my best friend what a wimp I’ve become in my old age, as I heat the house up to 68 in the winter. Here’s something wierd. My water was still working this morning when I got up. Later, when we got up to about 10 degrees, it froze. I decided to just turn off the well pump and wait till tomorrow (it’s supposed to be 40) to go out and thaw the line. Just on a lark, I turned the pump back on a few minutes ago, and the water’s running again. I guess the heat tape on the pipe just got behind the curve for a little while.

If you have very cold weather, it’s a good idea to leave a trickle of water running somewhere in the house, it helps prevent freezing.

I have no idea why, but the last three times my pipes have frozen (including this morning), the water was running. Today I was standing there washing dishes as the water flow changed to a trickle, then stopped. The only action I took was to turn off the water and turn off the pump. I figure the pipe heater took care of the rest. But I agree that for most people, your advice appears to work.
