Curses to the melon

I love me some watermelon.

My son found a guy with a load of yellow meated watermelon. Cheap.

Chilled it.

After lunch we put it on the picnic table. Bring out the salt box and paper plates.

Son-of-a-wrek pulled out his hog sticker. I said, nope you using that nasty thing!

Sent inside for the butcher knife.

Sliced. That satisfying sound that only comes from a ripe melon.

Well. Now. What’s this? I’ve never seen so many seeds.

They were mostly concentrated in the very middle of the melon.

We got plenty fruit.

It was mighty tasty. I have done all I can of a melon today. Alas, it’s the hydration that gets me. Or, it will at dialysis Monday.

I was thinking about the seeds. I had the kids wash them. They really liked that. Big sticky wet mess. At least, concentrated to outdoors. Mostly.

I figure we will do a craft with the seeds. From experience I know they won’t propagate this year. Won’t keep til next year. So crafting it is.

Anyway, the melon was good, if seedy. So not top priority for my garden plot.

Enjoy those summer fruits while they are here!

My son tells me we’ll have cantaloupes ripe for Saturday. I’m very happy.

I’m being dehydrated because dialysis is getting so awful. I hope to be able to work some in my intake. I love me some Cantaloupe. :crossed_fingers:

We’ve been devouring peaches of late. Juicy and sweet after fully ripening in a paper bag for a couple of days. Made a killer peach cobbler the other day. We froze several bags of fresh strawberries. They don’t stay firm when frozen, but are still good eating with some yogurt and honey.

Now we’re awaiting the fresh corn that comes in August-September here in the north.
