In the realm of Unintended Consequences, here’s a little story. I have an online value-added (debit) credit card I’ve used for years and years and years. Love it. All the benefits of a regular Visa with none of the nasty credit card debt. For many years I had it tied to my PayPal account and bought hundreds, if not thousands of dollars’ worth of stuff on ebay using PayPal, mainly DVDs and books. Life was good. Then PayPal said I couldn’t use my card anymore because it wasn’t tied to a bank account, and I couldn’t use PayPal unless I had a bank account. I don’t have a bank account, I don’t want a bank account, and I had no intention of getting a bank account just to use PayPal. In short, my PayPal account was blocked, and I haven’t bought anything on ebay for at least a couple of years. That’s probably a good thing, but still annoying. I let it drop. Never called PayPal, never complained to anyone. What was the point?
Well, moron that I am, I wanted to try the shiny new title thingy, so I tried to use the “PayPal without an account” option, but it wouldn’t work because my credit card number was still tied to my old PayPal account. Argh. I read that there was a way to unlink the card # by calling customer service at PayPal.
I just did that, just now
They didn’t unlink my card.
They reset my PayPal account.
So now I can use PayPal again, WITHOUT a bank account!
Thank you Ed! Thank you Straight Dope! Thank you everyone involved! How interesting that such a silly thing as a title got me to resolve my issue with PayPal, something I’d let go for so long and figured would never be resolved.
Of course, now I can use ebay again, which would probably be a problem if my credit card weren’t value added.
Ha, by quoting to smile at you, I noticed that the strikeout was made using del /del. I never knew that before. I always wondered how that was done but never looked or asked anyone. Thanks!
Yep, not only can I use my PayPal and ebay again, I know how to [del]strikethrough[/del] now. Whether that makes the world a better place or not remains to be seen.
Actually, I should have thanked DSYoungEsq too, since TubaDiva quoted him in that thread, so, thanks!
