Cute alert: I have a new kitten. Needs a name.

And he’s very very extra-special very cute. Of course! Is there ever a kitten who isn’t just so cute you want to pick it up and snuggle it and go “AWWWWWWWWWWWW…”?

Anyway, I brought him home from the shelter a week ago, and in that short time he’s won over the elder eight already inhabiting the place. The younger ones play with him; the older ones tolerate his presence. He’s a total lovebug, wants to sleep on my head, adores ramming his tiny wet nose into my face and batting it with his huge little paws. Huge little paws, for sure – he’s got double thumbs! I’ve always wanted a double-pawed cat, and now I’ve got one.

Pictures, you say? Well, here ya go:

How’s this for a face?

Did I mention I adore classic marble tabby markings?

Feeding time at the zoo

So: He’s bright, sweet, loving, snuggly, energetic, playful, curious, nearly fearless, and a quick learner. He’s going to be wicked handsome when he grows up. His front paws are going to be HUGE, and he’s already learned to be soft and gentle with them when batting his human in the face.

Provisionally I’m calling him “Thumb-boy”, and had considered “Thumbo” (he’s at the stage where his ears have outgrown his face) but that’s not really grabbing me. “Bigfoot Thumboy” is under review, but I have a feeling he’s going to have a completely different name – he just hasn’t told me yet what it will be.

Any suggestions will be gratefully tossed into the hat.

Oh, in case it would help, the current roster aside from the new guy is, from oldest to youngest: Sophie (black DLH female), Eddy, Teddy, and Freddy (orange DSH brothers), Pumpkin and Squash (cream tabby DSH brothers), Sally (black DSH female), and Peanut (cream tabby DSH male).

I don’t have a name for him, but that’s what my Dewey must have looked like as a little bitty kitty!

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

That’s one big and beautiful brood you have there!

I say name him Norman. It’s kind of a play off of ‘huge foot’ in French; pied énorme. Plus, it’s a cute name.

Congrats on your new addition!

You got a winner!!!

names:
Pawsome

Mitts

Name him Poops!
Is Peanut still nuts? :stuck_out_tongue:

So cute!

Since you’ve named two somewhat after their coloring, I’d suggest Marble.

Irving. Irv for short.

Nine cats? Wow. How about “Pluto”?

Hmmmmmmmm… Norman was my father’s name. Doesn’t work, for a number of reasons. Now, let me look at some others…

From that picture: Faceripper

I like Marble too, with the other names you’ve given.

Schroedinger.

I’ve always wanted a cat, just to name him Schroedinger.

Pawsome! I like it; that goes in the bin. “Mitts” reminds me of Mitt Romney, my former governor, so that’s right out.

bbs2k – Yes, Peanut still does that crazy thing with his front paws.

Hey, once you’ve plowed past a couple or three, how much difference can there be between eight and nine? I do limit myself to single digits, which is why I didn’t also adopt his all-black double-pawed sister. Although I was tempted.

I’ve always wanted to name a cat “Fur Elise” but somehow managed to restrain myself. But Schroedinger… hmmmmmmmmmm… Could be, although I haven’t seen/not seen him in any boxes so far.

Machine Gun Monkey! ( I always have to try. )

If not that, Count Rugen. Or Tyrone, from the aforementioned.

Saint Louis, from Louis IX ( ninth cat, you see ).

:dubious:

But… but… but that guy was EVIL!!! This little guy is GOOD. :frowning:

On the other hand, he’s no saint.

But hey! Howzabout “Tabberlane”? Huh? Huh? :stuck_out_tongue:

A friend of mine gave me that name for one of my cats. I felt it didn’t quite fit. But I’ve felt a responsibility to pass it on ever since :p.

Good cat? Isn’t that an oxymoron?

Neither was Louis IX if you ask me ( and Pope Boniface VIII obviously did not, more’s the pity ). But royalty suits cats.

Hurrummm…well…puns…you know…

No.

Now as it happens, I think Tamerlane is actually an excellent name for a cat ( especially if he has a limp or spends a lot of time stacking the skulls of his victims ), but you might start confusing me if you posted about him often ;).

SO says “Putz”

For some reason I think of Rudy (fighting irish football player they made a movie about).

Tamerlane does have a nice swing to it, a good sound. But now I’m off on a tangent: Genghis Khat?

Tom Thumb

That’s one I’ve been considering, yes – although I expanded it to “Tomtom Thumbthumb”.

Chairman Meow?

Although I think someone on the board has named their cat something similar to that already.
