I have adopted a talkative little baby house panther and I’m so excited I can barely form a coherent sentence.
He’s handsome and special, and the first kitty I chose for my very self on my own, for me with absolutely nobody else involved.
Also, he is polydactyl (extra toes) with a big mitten for each front paw, and his thumbs have TWO claws apiece, and he has one single white whisker on the left side of his muzzle, and OMG he haz rainbow eyes.
They’re green at the center, then yellow in the middle, then copper at the edges. I wonder if they’re in the process of changing color? (He’s about five months old, and cats often outgrow their kitten eye color.)
He meow-howled the whole five minute drive home … but calmed whenever I talked to him. He’s poking around now, very carefully … but trotted right over immediately for reassurance when I called him. (Well, kissy-noise’d at him. Still needs a proper name.)
My lil’ old lady Nikki is not at all amused but has contented herself with some growling and staring but no warfare seems imminent.
He looks black but he’s actually a rich, deep mocha in sunlight, and in artificial light he looks like a black-on-black tabby, and ohmygod I could babble on endlessly. I’m so excited.
“Jempol” is “thumb” in Indonesian, pronounced pretty much the way it looks. I don’t think there is a good word for “mitten” in Indonesian - glove is “sarung tangan” which is a sarong for your hand, but doesn’t sound like a kitty name.
“Foot” in Japanese is ashi and big foot is okina ashi. “Black Foot” is kuroi ashi. I’ve been on a Japanese naming kick lately–this is why I have an Okashi Inu and a Shoga.
I had a black masking tabby cat once. The name he came with was Sidney, which I don’t particularly recommend. You could only see his stripes when he was on a window sill with the sun shining through his fur.
Sounds like his eyes are colorful targets. But Target doesn’t really do it. I’ll have to think about what a talkative kitty should be named. Herald? Harbinger? Foreshadow? Tumult?
With all these great cat names you are going to need at least 20 more kitties. Go for it!
