Hardcore Green Bay Packers fan meets woman named “Packer” at karaoke bar. They date and eventually get engaged. They have a Packers-themed wedding. Man wears Packers-themed suit to reception (wore traditional suit for ceremony). Man takes wife’s surname so he can be named “Packer” and together they will be “the Packers.”
Based on that summary, I can’t see anything the least bit creepy about it. I haven’t read the full article, so I don’t know if there’s more info in there that would change my mind. But so long as there’s legit love there, I see no issue.
How on earth could one spouse taking the other’s name be creepy???
Wait, maybe I misunderstood. Is it creepy that they like the Packers so much that they had a Packers themed wedding? You’re saying that being diehard fans is being creepy? If so, no, I don’t think being hardcore sports fans is creepy.
The only way it would be creepy is if the guy sought her out and developed the relationship simply due to her last name. That doesn’t seem to be the case here.
She seems happy with him and I’m going to assume he saw something in her other than her last name so I’d guess cute. Even if she’s inwardly rolling her eyes at the Packer suit and stuff, that’s not really creepy just her fiance/husband being a dork.
I don’t really care, and they can do whatever they want, but it’s still creepy.
Any time a hobby, cause du jour, fandom, or pastime takes over other aspects of your life that ordinarily it should have nothing to do with, it’s going too far.
Not creepy? I’m not even sure why you’d suggest that. To be honest, it’s almost not newsworthy. At least not to the point of being national news. What caught my attention is that they did it in Chicago instead of somewhere in Wisconsin. I’d guess it’s a family thing and I could certainly understand if both their families are from the Chicago area and didn’t want to drive all the way to Green Bay (or even somewhere over the boarder like Kenosha or Milwaukee).
But like Vinyl Turnip said, as soon as I saw “Hardcore Green Bay Packers” fan, it didn’t really surprise me. Part of me wants to say ‘you don’t know packers fans, do you?’, but I assume, and maybe I’m wrong, that all states have a subset of over dedicated fans. Everyone has a neighbor or a relative with a front yard covered in their team’s colors/logo or a basement/mancave that looks like sports bar, right (not being sarcastic…in fact, in looking for pictures, I found ones for other teams as well).
