Cyberpunk 2077 release discussion

Ah, ok. I think I may have tossed a point in there. I had like 20 perk points saved up and I just dumped a few in various things that I haven’t bothered to even think about using yet. Thanks!

I did this in both Skyrim and Fallout. I like to take my time and explore, which generally means I eventually become overpowered for certain quests and/or any battles. So I put aside my stealth archer God, and play as a mage, or a sword and shield slasher. I like games that give you that option, so you never have to get too bored by combat after you master a certain way of playing.

Yep, those would be my go-to examples as well (not to mention the stealth archer build). The trouble with flexible builds is that they’re pretty easy to minmax, so unless you stop yourself you can end up with an OP character. Which might not be bad if that’s what you want (I’m not that combat-focused, so it’s fine by me).

Yup, I did the same, and I also ended up being somewhat OP in Witcher 3 for the same reason. I still liked the stories and graphics and exploration, so whatever. There was still fun.

I have not grabbed Cyberpunk yet, I am waiting for it to mature first. My guess is that by the time it goes on sale it will also have enough patches for the bugs. I’m most likely going to grab it for the Xbox One X. Not that I’m too concerned; I have a couple of friends who say it’s fine on that console. But again, waiting for a discount.

Overall I would agree that it’s a good game. I’d say it didn’t quite live up to the hype but I’ve already played through two different endings and I’m working on a third. I’ve got a lot of hours in Cyberpunk 2077 already which says a lot about what I think about its overall quality. It’s not perfect but it’s a good game.

I’m with you in regards to the endings. The best one I’ve seen is bitter-sweet at best with no promise of better days to come. I’m interested to see what that means for any future expansions though.

Well, I did it. Ongoing assaults are a thing of the past in Night City. I suppose I should do some main quests now that I’m a lvl 49 head chopping machine. I hit a guy for 98,000 damage today.

Finished it last night. I’ll probably try some of the other endings tonight (I picked the Arasaka ending).

I finished all the side quests, gigs, and police scanner bits save one: a Wakako quest that’s bugged and doesn’t start. I filed a bug and tech support replied that they’re aware of the issue and working on it .

I did cheese the crafting system a bit to make enough money to buy all the cars. Somehow, I can turn recycled cola cans into sniper rifles and sell as many as I want without crashing the Night City sniper rifle market.

Overall I liked it a lot. Might edge into “great” territory if they can polish it up a bit (including fixing some mechanics, like crafting) and add some DLC content.

Question about endings:

Are there endings for each of the four romance possibilities? I romanced Panam, and though that was the “best” between that, the Arasaka, and Silverhand endings (though it did kinda force me to go lethal, which I didn’t care for). And her ending was pretty involved and specific to her Nomad clan. I’m wondering if the other three partners have equally involved endings.

The Panam ending is more “The Nomad” ending. I went to Panam for help at the end but had romanced Judy (and Panam won’t romance a woman PC anyway). But I was made an Family member and left with them in the end – except Judy came with us. If you romance her, she says that she wants to get out of Night City and I guess this was her chance. But there’s no extended “Judy ending” or “River ending”, etc in terms of a whole final chapter revolving around them. Panam just happens to be part of the Nomads and there’s a Nomad ending.

Maybe there is some content they are planning to add, but it seems like you can get only a limited number of people to help you at the end, like Panam and Rogue.

There should not be any “good” endings in this genre, but I found the ending where you finally become a legend… satisfying. In any case, definitely don’t trust Arasaka— the tarot card reader said so

One funny thing I noticed: if you dump a body in a container, then go ahead and dump a second body there, you can clearly see the container is inexplicably empty.

I said this before, but I did appreciate all the little background touches that have nothing to do with any quest but give the world its consistent flavour: in the middle of nowhere, the body of a murdered journalist who refused to cancel a story after she was warned. A parked car with the murdered bodies of a young couple who were trying to escape the city…

Ok, interesting.

I guess I thought that romancing Panam was a prerequisite to joining the Nomad fam, but apparently not. I completed the Judy storyline well beforehand and she left Night City long before I got to the end.

So: I guess there’s the suicide ending (which I never found), the Arasaka ending, the Nomad ending, and the Silverhand ending. And for the last three I can either let Johnny have my body, or keep my body and live for 6(ish) months. Which I guess makes 7 possible endings. Anything I’m missing?

Making a separate post from my spoiler one but I finished the game with about 160 hours. Granted, part of that was just fucking around but I also completed most of the side missions and gigs. Didn’t bother trying to scrub the map clean of every blue icon.

As you can guess by me sticking around for 160 hours, I very much enjoyed it. Even now, it doesn’t feel as though it wore out its welcome but I do think I’ll take a break and wait to see if new content DLC comes out before returning to Night City. People who “completed” the game after 20-30 hours missed out on much of it and I’d say that the main story thread is the weakest part. Even there, I overall enjoyed it but mostly because of the side stories propping it up and giving it more impact.

After all that time, I did run across a number of bugs but nothing game breaking and even the worst were resolved with a reload. I thought Night City was very well executed with tons of stuff to do. Keep in mind that, for me, “tons of stuff” means “things that a mercenary would be doing” – I don’t give a shit about being able to play skee-ball or ride bumper cars or take knitting classes in my open world games unless the game is about that stuff. But the side missions would sometimes resurface in some way and the written bits added a lot to the world.

I thought the weakest game mechanics were the driving (bleah) which made having two dozen cars to potentially buy seem kind of pointless when they all handle like greased dumpsters and the crafting system needs a good amount of work. Hopefully those get shown a little love down the line when CDPR gets the console versions into reputable shape and can get their legs under them.

Maybe that explains why dumping bodies counts as a death. They’re all actually compactors or incinerators.

I agree about the little background touches. Found a dead cop in the city under a bunch of trash bags that was going to squeal about some corruption or other.

I think that running through all of Panam’s storyline is required but not actually romancing her. Or maybe they once intended a special ending for each partner and just ran out of time. Though it’s hard to imagine Kerry being of much help in the ending. River and Judy at least have some skills.

After I finished the game, I read about the endings. If you have a good relationship with Johnny, I guess you can select the ending with him and Rogue but then just sit for five minutes at the dialogue after picking it. Eventually Johnny will offer “another way” which is you soloing the incursion into Arasaka. You still wind up needing to pick who gets the body at the end but no one else has to die along the way.

145 hours for me, though I really did complete everything (except for one gig that’s broken–I filed a bug report on that). Probably more like 130 hours if you subtract time where I left the game open and was doing something else.

The driving mechanics weren’t great but by the end I was having fun with it. I mostly drove a motorcycle, though. Easier to zip through heavy traffic. Hey, lane-splitting is legal in California.

Are those all distinctly different endings, though? Misty predicts four possible tarot cards, or death (“But you won’t let that happen, will you?”)

BTW in the epilogue where you go on a mission for the mysterious Mr. Blue Eyes, it’s left to your imagination whether he can really help you live or not, assuming you survive the solo suicide mission. [But in the credits, the tarot cards are in your favor!]

That would have been nice. Felt bad that someone had to die no matter what. Also didn’t like that the Nomad ending kinda forced you to kill people (though maybe I could have gotten out of the tank?).

Speaking of, that ending is actually two possible endings.

If you die while trying to solo Arasaka, it doesn’t reload you from your last save. It just rolls credits with you dead. So I guess “You died” counts as an ending, right?

Did anyone find any Thomas Pynchon Easter Eggs, like references to Yoyodyne, or McClintic Sphere, or whatever? Then again, your name is “V.”, so maybe anything more would be superfluous.

I guess I didn’t have the right relationship since it didn’t trigger for me. Some sites implied that you have to go through a very specific dialog with Johnny at his burial site. I should have a savegame at nearly that point (ended up with 300+ saves), so I might try playing it from there. I don’t recall how much main-mission stuff I’ll have to replay from there, though. It felt pretty far back, but then I did a lot of gigs and stuff right before the point-of-no-return.
