D&D Game 3: Vikings!

Yes. Or have a quiet word with your friendly rune-priest - Odin’s priests are rumoured to be able to see into the hearts of men - and ask if he can tell whether Gautrek is entirely on the up-and-up.

Don’t be disheartened. It’s early days yet.

Bjarni, I suggested to Ivar about using ESP and Augury already…

Say, what can Odin’s Wizards do?

Quietly cast ESP on Gautrek. If that doesn’t give a pretty good sense of what he’s up to, excuse myself and cast Augury, asking “If Bjarni goes before the Jarl peacefully, will the Jarl judge him fairly?”

ESP:…can’t believe he’s buying this, the credulous fool! Bet Ketil takes that fancy sword, though. Greedy dog. Still, be plenty left over for me. Wait, what’s that priest muttering to himself? His kind give me the willies. Now come on, Bjarni, come nice and quietly, hee hee hee. Might even get a little something from the Jarl too. I bet he would like to see your head on a pike, at that.

The spell is still running.

Now then, young Osvald, this is why Ulf suggested we all introduce ourselves in the setup thread.
Ivar did so here , which was very useful.

Victory!

“We still need pack?” Jorund is looking around trying to figure out what someone wants him to do.

I’m assuming that making decisions based on information that I shouldn’t have is out of bounds. So I don’t really know how to proceed. Obviously, tactics will change based on recent events, but as far as I know, Bjarni doesn’t have access to this information yet.
Essentially, I’m waiting for Ivar to speak up.

Though, in waiting, I’m already acting on information that I shouldn’t have.

“Don’t just stand there, Bjarni, you’ve got to show me where your supplies are! Say, do you have extra pillows as well? I brought one, but if you’ve got goose feather ones, it’d better for me.” insists Osvald, pulling on Bjarni’s sleeve to go with Ulf and Jorund towards the house.

“By the way, Gautrek, how long is the journey? And how long should I pack for- where will we be staying?” Osvald calls out to the Warrior.

Hopefully, this will buy us time so we can all get on the same page… Let’s discuss things further inside the house “while you show me your supplies.”

Pillows. Pillows? Soft, puling milksop of a wizard. This is going to be easier than I thought. Whatever that priest did, it looks like it hasn’t done any harm.

Full marks for honesty, sachertorte, but as we’re still getting up to speed here I don’t mind a little stalling while Ivar passes Bjarni the news.

You are quite right to wait for your character to be given information before you act on it!

Since Bjarni should wait for Ivar to give him the info, we are all hoping Appleciders will be along soon.

Note how Jorund, Osvald and I are trying to help whilst staying in character.
Jorund is not the sharpest tool in the box, but is ready to act.
Roosh is fluttering about, but wants to have a conference out of earshot of Gautrek.
I’m feeling smug  because I knew Ivar had ESP and guessed he might find something out from Gautrek  , but Ulf simply thought we needed to talk privately before acting.

These Internet games do have occasional holdups … but at least you can be planning what Bjarni will say and do once Ivar tells him the truth.

Ulf “Perhaps, Jorund. Let’s stay alert while Bjarni thinks what to do.”

Ulf is projecting calmness to keep Gautrek from making a move until we have a plan.

Might as well try to put this skill to use: Can Osvald try inconspicuously to use his spellcraft skills to notice what our Priest is up? Otherwise, he’s just fluttering about, thinking of things to pack, and what Tea our noble Jarl prefers.

DM rolls d20…

Yes, you happen to notice Ivar mutter a few words and make a gesture or two that knowlessmen would not have recognised as an ESP spell, and you conclude he is reading someone’s mind.

Ivar: “Don’t worry, Gautrek, we’ll come quietly. Just need to pack some things up inside.”

Give a knowing look signifying danger to all those bright enough to understand it.

We’re going to have to fight here, I think, so Ivar’s plans in a fight are to keep back out of melee (duh), use his javelins for offense, save one to use defensively if necessary or throw all four if I can get to my spear, quietly cast Guidance on as many people as possible before the battle starts, and cast Bless once everyone’s in combat if possible. Cure anyone who needs it in combat, too.

If Gautrek permits it, Ulf will guard Bjarni safely inside and carefully bring Jorund along too.
Ulf is not sure if Ivar means anything by his ‘look’, but is happy to have a private conference.

“Yes, we go help Bjarni pack. . . Funny eyes not right”
Jorund turns around and heads in side shakeing his head and looking confused.

If combat starts, Ulf (who wears no armour*) would be terribly grateful if Ivar could refrain from throwing javelins into melee.

*and Jorund

However Guidance, Bless and Cures are all most welcome.

P.S. Ivar, did you think about Ulf’s request for loading more Cures?
(Berserkers tend to take a lot of damage in the process of ripping the enemy into pieces)

After noticing Ivar’s warning, Bjarni joins the rest of his party in packing, but continues to accomodate Gautrek.
“Gautrek, please hold here. We won’t be long.”

“What me pack? Rod ready to go? Me need bed?” Jorund starts heading to his bed roll to pack for a trip totally oblivious to the real reason for ‘packing’.
