D & D on the Straight Dope setup thread. (In Middle Earth FA63)

Ha - you should have stuck with ‘Halflings speak orc’!

And while Qadgop is always welcome  , if he’s playing a Maia whilst I’m a 3rd level Druid, then I want my entry fee back.

Word from the Timeless Halls is that he was a real party animal.

Ah, the original Jazz Horn Player?

I always picture Bleeding Gums Murphy when I think of Golthadriel.

There’s an image, Majestic Ulmo with Bleeding Gums next to him.

I’m trying, really, but I’m having a hard time picturing Lisa Simpson as Galadriel.

As I’m enjoying this a lot, I’ve started a game of my own here.

Do have a look!

A post about Animal Friendship got to large for the game thread:

Ghân : To the Animal Friendship spell, casting time is a full hour. Then you have training time. You will need a supply of specific critter food around as the material component. So for a Hawk or Owl, you will need some mice like creatures or bunnies.

Also be wary, many creatures are too smart for the spell. As an example, all of Beorn’s friends, the Fox in Shire in the Hobbit, Eagles, Dolphins, Seals, Otters, some horses, etc.

The odds are that there are few Owls dumb enough to be affected.

However in most of these cases, you can still use the spell in a variation. If you manage to befriend a smarter animal, you can cast the spell to improve communication and cooperation with it. As an example, you rescue and raise a fox kit. It is you’re friend and smarter than the animals of our modern world. The spell would allow the fox to learn tricks and jobs on par with Beorn’s Dogs or lets say a top Border Collie. Speaking of which, a “Smart” Border Collie would by nature be capable of learning hundreds of commands from a Druid that worked with the dog. Raccoons make intriguing companions for the extremely manipulative hands and dexterity.

Just wanted to drop a quick note that I am not going to be able to be online most of the weekend. My roommate just gave his notice so my fiance and I are going to spend the weekend apartment hunting (can’t afford the place on our own, and we are tired of roommates anyway)

See you all on Monday.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Good luck.

Of course Hunting is a non-weapon proficiency, so roll your Wisdom -1 to succeed…

I just sent around a map of the Battle. Battle at the Grey Woods.jpg

If anyone is interested, I drew it up first using Campaign Cartographer 3 and then added the text with MSPaint.

I am learning how to use CC3 and thought this was a good thing to try, but for speed sake, I just saved the woods off as a .jpg and finished it in Paint that I have used for years.

Jim

Thanks to you and Jim. It was a long couple of days but we found two places we liked enough to turn in apps for today. We find out tomorrow if we get them. Here’s hoping.

Good luck! I know some raccoon realtors who may be able to help…

Did somebody say ‘raccoon’?! Why my Druid is looking for a smart animal friend…

The best humour is accidental!

True. I and a couple of friends who were there can still crack up if you mention the phrase “elven jousting” at the right time.

Jim,

The last King of Dale I could find was Bard II, who took over following the war of the ring. Being a Man of the West, he would likely be at least in his 80s by now. If he is no longer King of Dale, then my second cry would be the current King of Dale.

Our group still sniggers at the well-meaning spellcaster who advanced on a fallen troll (needs fire to kill) saying cheerfully “I’ve got the torch alight in one hand and the oil alight in the other!”

In the first post of the game thread, I mentioned, King Brand of Dale. He sent you as a courier.
