I’m happy with the XP awards and will take a pass on the magic sword. Use it in health, my friend.
I know we have two sneaky types in addition to me, but I’m a tracker and advance scout by trade, too. Plus, I’d be more likely to be covering retreats by our other scouts.
That said, I can’t use the Belt, and I don’t know that the powder adds much. Just wanted to remind all that I scout too. The men of Dale don’t usually have Hobbits and Elves to help us out, so we pathfinders are left with the job.
Just a reminder, you specialized in Long Sword. You actually have no experience in using a Two Handed.
The spells cannot be used as scrolls. These books are simply the study aids that a Mage needs on the road. There were no magic scrolls. The scrolls were blank and non-magic.
CatInASuit, I will not be resending character sheets. I have a master sheet with every character on it and I just update that and try to keep in sync between 4 PCs. Well nigh impossible. So please update your own.
The belt is useable for Hobbits up to large men, but not animals. It can be used with Barkskin. The restriction was armor.
Deor’s contact and indeed every Wizard of any note in town already have a Magic Ruby or an equivalent.
It would be in the party’s favor for Deor to get the Ruby in the long run. It has a value of around 250-500gp if trying to buy one.
Trying to purchase the Magic Pearl I mentioned in the PM would run closer to 500-700GP.
A luck stone would probably be 1000gp.
The other item was the minor magical magnifier that adds one level to all detection spells. That would be very useful to keep in the party. It would work for any caster and you will soon have 3 and eventually 4 when Gil-Gandel gets his spells. Either you or Deor should try to get this item. They are rare.
Malacandra, the supply of arrow points or even arrows of your quality are readily available in the city. Even silver elven arrows are only 1gp per. The regulars will be a dozen for 2 GP.
Glee, the spell book does not seem to work how you think it does and the Mage should be jealous of his spells. Deor trading with his master was fine, but selling them to others is not encouraged and will lose playing experience. Additionally spells are copied usually, not removed and traded.
For the Belt: It looks like Gil-Gandel and Mulligan are the front runners. Ghân is another possibility and there is much else for Deor to take including already getting the spells.
The Two Handed Sword, **Actually Theogrim {OneCentStamp} is the best candidate; I forgot he uses Bastard Sword, so he could use it without Penalties. He is probably even strong enough to swing it from horseback with only a -1 to hit one handed. **
The Necklace is useless to the party. A Wizard might be able to cleanse it after a long enough time. This will reduce its selling price to unless you sell it to an evil Wizard. (That was a joke) It is still worth 1500-3000gp.
The Pouch, not of holding: I would think would be of interest to [del]Deor[/del], Mulligan, Gil-Gandel or even Brin, he likes to travel light.
Magic Ruby: The Party should just give this to Deor with the 'Write Spell components & Spell books
Smoke Powder: Mulligan or Gil-Gandel or anyone else interested.
Staff: Sell, it should bring about 200-300 GP
** minor magical magnifier**: Ghân or Deor: Deor is already getting much and if Ghân does not get or want the belt he should request the magnifier glass. The last choice would be Gil-Gandel for future use.
Has everyone checked in? Did everyone see their new XP totals?
Belt vs. smoke powder: I think the belt would get more mileage with me - I have a pair of OK swords and some Strength to back them up as well as elven expertise (actually being part Fighter is a benefit too, though not a massive one over a pure Thief especially once Mulligan starts racing up levels. However I’m not doing badly over this whole undertaking so if Mulligan does prefer the belt to the powder I shan’t make much fuss over it.
Mr DM, if the arrow prices you’re quoting are a match (the good ones) for what I can make myself then I’ll shell out for a couple of dozen. However, if I think I can do better with the yew I’m about to harvest, some shop-bought arrow points and a spot of craftsmanship, then that’s what I’ll do.
The Yew is probably better for actual bows. I don’t recall it being of especial value for arrows, just useful. The Silver Arrows are very good and obviously Dwarf Made. They would gain a small save against breakage too. The standard arrows at a dozen for 2gp are not up to your standard, but very close. You would suffer no penalties. To get good points & fletchings & shafts would cut the price in half. To just get the points and fletchings, I would say 40 for the 2gp.
OK, if I’m the best candidate (flexes muscles) to use the sword, I’ll take it. I’m happy to forego any share of the cash from this trip as well as cash or items from future adventures in order to compensate.
Honestly, you are the only candidate. Not even Caramir uses anything larger than a Long Sword. I think that is a fair offer you are making. It is the most valuable item found.
OK, then all this stuff goes to Deor.
A very different style from my group.
Selling a scroll (even a duplicate?) loses experience?
(It may save time if you tell us that only one player can use something, rather than let us discuss who should have what. )
Since Deor has got some stuff, Ghân can take this. I already load Detect Magic (and could load Detect Poison and Detect Balance too).
Ghan wears armour and the Scouts need it most.
Sell them then.
The pouch could carry the powder safely, so they should go together.
We also can sell the gems in the pouch.
According to my DM Guide a +1 Sword of Wounding is worth 22,000gp, so I think the +2 version is probably worth more than all the rest combined!
But of course Theogrim should use it.
Fine, if my share of the money will cover two dozen of the dwarf-made ones then that’s what I’ll run with. When Ghan and I make our little trip, I’ll cut myself a bow-stave. Do I need to season it or can I get straight on with the job?
There were no scrolls. Selling scrolls is not the same, though I admit similar. For role-playing purposes, spells should be guarded at this point jealously. Call it a superstitious fear that if another copies your spell in your style and sells the copy to another and it eventually falls into the wrong hands, it will be far easier for an opponent to dispel or turn your spell. The Wizards are a jealous guild. It is a little weak, but that is how I am running it in this world, currently. At other times, in other worlds, bartering spells is a common practice. Right now in this game in 63FA it is not.
Hey, I forgot Theogrim could use a Two Handed Sword, I thought this item would just get sold or bartered. :smack:
I forgot you where armor, good point. We need the two treasure finders to work that one out.
I am not sure I agree on the pouch, but if the party does, the NPC’s won’t object.
I apologize to those that won’t be getting any magic, but that is how my campaigns work. Minas Tirith is probably the best place to barter goods for other magic items. This is worth remembering. Osgiliath has a thriving Dwarven Population currently. The work is paying great and where the masons went, the smiths followed and many marvelous Dwarven items are available in both Minas Tirith and Osgiliath.
Malacandra, the bow-stave will need seasoning. Merry will even offer to watch over it for you while you are adventuring. He will be residing in the Citadel.
Will it be unbalancing? Seeing that my character already has one magic weapon, I’m happy to let the sword be sold or bartered for something that will benefit the party mroe as a whole; I can only swing one weapon at a time anyway.
I don’t think so, in the end it only a +2 to hit and damage. You cannot not use a shield with it and the wounding takes a while to add up at 2 points per round. It is a very nice sword, but I don’t think unbalancing.
This is interesting. I more or less feel like I am fully stocked as a character (at least for now). But if there is any good Dwarven weaponry or armoury I would be interested. Maybe an upgrade to my xbow? My axes are fine with me for now, but it can never hurt to pick up a nice new one.
Also, my poinies and myself are always more than happy to carry any extra supplies the party needs (munitions for Mal) so just let me know what you guys think I should pick up for the party as a whole an I am more than happy to pick it up an carry it with me. Maybe some form or portable shelter for us?
I’m not looking for the pouch, but I would like to let the party know of one of my personal limitations:
I’m glad to let Theogrim have the sword, if he’s that much better suited for it. I guess I thought “two-handed sword” and “longsword” were virtually synonymous. As I said early on, my D&D knowledge and skills are pretty rusty.
What Exit? anything more to Thoroncir’s and Gilraen’s conversation? I just got a single email from you about her question to him, and emailed back with his reply.
Just checked my sheet, it actually puts me at 6,501 xp thankyouverymuch.
So close to level 4 and still so very far away.
I think I missed that Email. I know I sent at least two today. Could you either resend or PM it.
Well, if by “takes a while” you mean “anything hit twice by this thing is going to lose forty hit points unless it gets cured”, then yes. It’s more of a PC killer - it doesn’t put monsters down that much quicker but it does very nasty things over the course of the next ten rounds or so. IMNSHO it’s well worth having and the sooner the owner gets fully proficient with it the better - a power like that is something you want operating as often as humanly possible. Just don’t point it in my direction.
If this is like the item in the DM Guide, it not only does +2 to hit and damage, but **each successful hit does an extra 20 hp of damage over the next 10 rounds ** (unless someone bandages the wound). This damage cannot be cured by any magic spells or potions).
That’s quite impressive!
What is available in Minas Tirith for barter?
What would the Sword fetch?
Given we have a fair amount of cash, can we trade the Staff and the Necklace for something?
Ghân would be interested in what the ‘minor magic magifier’ could be bartered for…
