I think the division works well. I don’t think that any of the items particularly help Gwaelur, so unless someone sees something that I missed I will be willing to trade my item to someone else for a portion of their share of gold.
The Fairbairns of the Shire? Yes, we know about them. Any descendant of Samwise Gardner will be most welcome.
You will be better off trying to take an item to trade when you return to Minas Tirith, no one in the party has much cash and the shares are relatively small compared to the potential trade value of a magic items.
**I crunched some rough numbers, it looks like everyone made level, even Gil-Gandel. **
Fair enough, then I will take whatever is left over. Off to post to the main thread.
Tell you what, I was go to fine tune the new XP numbers with the items picked, but D_Odds and appleciders haven’t checked in yet.
All six PCs made level. This should put all of you at 4th.
I will PM over the New HP and notes on level based class abilities.
I will get the XP out during the week once the Magic Items are sorted out.
Tomorrow I will get **RogueRacer ** into the game.
Again sorry for the delay.
No problemo - thanks for all of your hard work!
I still need Brin and Deor to check in to complete the Magic Item division. D_Odds posted yesterday and Appleciders has not posted for a while. Did he mention somewhere if he was going to be away? If it comes to it, I can just give in the magic tinder box and move on.
**RogueRacer ** has officially joined the group as the new Hobbit Treasure Finder **Elfstan Fairbairns ** and it looks like Omi no Kami may join the game.
Indeed, assuming everything works out I’d love to join in. Before I start honestly thinking about character concepts, though, I wanted to ask the party if there are any requests for a class or tactical role that the adventure thus far seems to need? I’m up for playing just about anything, so I’m happy to entertain practically any roles.
Interesting question just came up about Sting from RogueRacer. I thought I would let the rest of you pick apart my logic.
As to sting glowing (shining) when spiders are around.
From the Hobbit:
*Suddenly Bilbo noticed that some of the spiders had gathered round old
Bombur on the floor, and had tied him up again and were dragging him away.
He gave a shout and slashed at the spiders in front of him. They quickly
gave way, and he scrambled and fell down the tree right into the middle of
those on the ground. His little sword was something new in the way of stings
for them. How it darted to and fro! *It shone with delight ** as he stabbed at
them. Half a dozen were killed before the rest drew off and left Bombur to
Bilbo.
Now Mirkwood was very dark, so while it is possible that sting was reflecting a bit of sunlight in a clearing, I always interpreted Sting as glowing of its own light when facing giant evil Spiders. It even hints at a mild sapience, but that is not something I seriously considered before.
Note also that despite being invisible earlier, Sting was visible to the Spiders. I find that telling but not definitive.
**From the Two Towers: **
*On the near side of him lay, gleaming on the ground, his elven-blade,
where it had fallen useless from his grasp. …
…But almost before she was
aware that a fury was upon her greater than any she had known in countless
years, *the shining sword ** bit upon her foot and shore away the claw
… Still his fury held
for one more blow, and before she could sink upon him, smothering him
and all his little impudence of courage, he slashed the bright elven-blade
across her with desperate strength.
Not as convincing, but still, Sting had some properties against Spiders, cut her tough steel likes threads like butter and shone in every description when used against giant evil spiders.

That’s a really interesting point… I seem to remember reading that a very common attribute of First Age Elven weapons was a tendency to glow in the presence of Orcs, so I had assumed that Sting was an orc-only deal, but I had completely forgotten about the spiders and such.
Still waiting on something from me?
It looks like you would get the Arrows. So I think you are covered now.
As I’m too much a weakling to use a strong bow, could you perhaps clarify what this means?
Alrighty, it looks like I’ll definitely be joining in… What Exit? and I seem to have hacked out a basic character design, so I’ll wait until that’s finalized and either post details in here or wait and do an IC introduction at What’s discretion.
Welcome, Omi no Kami! What’s your username mean?
I remember, of course, that Sting glowed magically in the presence of orcs. I’d forgotten any such reaction to spiders, regardless of size.
Combination of your +2 Long Bow and Special Ability, you can get away with using these arrows that normally work better for Strong Bows.
So now I can pwn any witch-doctor/shaman with Protection from Normal Missiles (if that is a 1e spell, that is). As my son would say, Sweeeet.
“Daughter of Omi,” as misleading as that is. Omi no Kami was a minor character in The Tale of Genji, whose main points were being the illegitimate daughter of a main character and having really bad manners.
It is - 3rd level.
OK, thanks! Sorry for having to ask (online introductions can be so awkward :smack: ), but are you a woman? In any event, welcome!
