Then again, it was easier to brush Cheetos crumbs off a TSR book than a Mac keyboard.
And cope with a Coke spill! (shudder)
Forgive me for advertising a game that is in no way related to this one, but Chrisk is starting a new game of Haggle here. I thought some of you might think the game was fun so I figured I would give you a heads up.
Hi all,
It should be becoming apparent that the pickings are now slim. I am going to speed this up a bit with some narrative if no one objects.
Do it.
Go ahead.
This.
'salright with me. Thanks!

So what the hell’s a Symbol of Pain? Tell me all you know!
The Paladin only Detects strong Evil and for that matter Very Strong Good. Goblin and Orcs are very unlikely to Detect as Evil. A Know Alignment will tell the exact alignment.
**Strong Evil **I define as most Undead, Shaman of Morgoth and Sauron, some evil Sorcerers, Necromancers, most Dragons, most Wargs and Werewolves, Evil items, etc.
Evil humans, humanoids, trolls, most orcs are not strong evil.
Very Strong Good would include Elves of the Light like Glorfindel and Clerics like Princess Gilraen in the other game. The Friar would not at this point Detect as Very Strong Good but would Detect as Good. Radagast and Tom Bombadil would not detect simply because they can avoid be detected. Most Elves do not detect as Good but all Paladins do.
Paladins also can Detect Lies at will (a percentage chance) and this ability should be used in questioning.
As to the Symbol of Pain, it is bad juju man. 7th level Cleric or 8th level MU spell. All creatures have wracking pains shooting through their bodies, which causes them to have -2 on dexterity and -4 on attack dice for from 2-20 turns modified by the level of the caster. NO SAVE! Deor will know of this and can relate it in thread. Gilraen does not and nor does Ghân or even Glorfindel.
Glee corrected me on something I had forgot:
You are correct, I misremembered the spell. **You may attempt to dispel more than once. **
Gilraen’s type of Clerics (Healers of Estë) have a few abilities that others do not. One is to work with other servants of the Valar to increase the effect of spells. This all ties in to balance their lack of combat ability.
With this in mind she can cast her spell with Ghân’s with a little work and boost his chances of success by some undetermined amount. The more she works with him, the better the bonus will be until she can add a small bonus to his spell without casting herself and just singing. (Much like how she helps him heal better.)
Gotta love that girl!
Despite the fact that this is sitting right on my character sheet, I had forgotten about it. :o Could have come in handy during some of those goblin interrogations (although maybe not if I can’t understand the language).
Anyway, Hraedsig’s Detect Lie is at 55%.
What would Deor know about the likelihood of a spell surviving the destruction of the stone it was cast upon? Does destroying or damaging the stone stand any chance of ruining the Symbol of Pain?
Presumably this would work, even if you don’t speak the language?!
Now you’re scaring me (visualises Deor trying to lob the stone at an opponent!)…
You’re just not sure and should have a healthy respect for not wanting to mess with the stone slab too much. It sounds like a ‘youngish’ Sauron may have placed the spells himself.
That’s OK, I just noticed that Gilraen’s Rod of Kanotir allows her to know lies. :smack:
I forgot about that.
If you drop that slab on someone’s foot, it won’t need a Symbol of Pain inscribed on it.
