If you guys are up for a roleplaying game here on the dope again, I am 100% up for playing.

I might restart the Middle Earth game, not sure. I will probably convert the characters to 5e though. Nothing is certain. Now that we can have pics it makes a big difference.

Not sure if you’re aware, but Adventures in Middle-Earth from Cubicle 7 was a Middle-Earth RPG for D&D 5e. Unfortunately, they lost the license shortly thereafter, so the books are out of print. If you can track down a copy, though, I thought it was a brilliant conversion.

I actually thought that The One Ring Roleplaying Game from the same company was the best Middle-Earth RPG ever made, but that used a rather peculiar system with proprietary dice that would be difficult to implement online with basic dice roller bots, and it’s out of print as well.

I still use the MERP books as a resource and of course the books themselves. I’ve been reffing games in Middle Earth since the early 80s though, so I’m good there.

In the end, the game we played was more of a group “write your own adventure” with me acting as the framework provider I guess. The D&D rules were only a loose guideline.

I would be tempted to try Roll20 game but that restricts the availability of the players a lot. My kids could get me up to speed on power using Roll20, they have made a lot of use of it during the lockdown.

Meanwhile I have some real world stuff that will eat up time and so haven’t put too much thought into this yet. The prior game had shifted to Mellophant as I had full edit control & the ability to post pictures. The pictures make a big difference. The edit is minor.

Well, I’m on board for any RPG on here. It’s been years for me. Thanks.

So I think I’ll start the early planning for restarting a Middle Earth game.
I’m going to switch to 5th edition (5e) rules which honestly I’m not as good with as 1st edition. But my kids have dragged me forward in time.

Hopefully original players see this bumped and we’ll try to figure out what to do this time to run the game. We may or may not bring forward the original characters and I think I would like to keep the timeline at least.

This might take a while to get started though. I’m in the middle of selling & buying a house and learning to be a mod here on the Straight Dope.

Heck yeah!

Do you still have my character stuff? I have bits an pieces but I’m not sure how much I kept.

Looks like I have a bunch of PCs & NPCs from 2012. Probably the final update. The characters were roughly around 8th.

Gwaelur is among those listed and just 1 level behind. So should be easy to bring over if we just bring back the characters.

I can’t believe the game ended over 8 years ago.

I know. It doesn’t feel that long ago. Time, it flies.

Another question… At least one of the regular players can’t post on the SDMB anymore. (I know, that seems like a statement, it isn’t)

I know, losing Malacandra is a blow. I don’t think CIAS or Glee would rejoin either.

I just found a Word doc from 2012 in my gaming files on my computer, with all the PCs, at least. That was four laptops ago – hooray for effective file backups!

I would be fine reprising Bitur, or creating a new character.

Whichever you think would work better for your campaign.

I had always secretly hoped that Bitur would somehow wind up with the famous sword Orcrist. For reasons.

What a great news - you just made my day, What Exit! Many thanks. I would love to resume playing Thoroncir, if possible.
