D is for Dopefest--or the Detroit Breakdown

Because it’s a decent neighborhood?

Dunno what I’m doing in late September, I might have to consider it.

My place is across the street from where the photographer would have been standing. I work probably 200-300 feet behind where the photographer would have been standing. Makes it easy for me to sleep in and still make that morning meeting–or to stagger home from an after-work get together.

Downtown Detroit, around Woodward/Jefferson is very nice actually. Greektown and the casinos, Fox Theatre, the DIA, CCS, Renaissance Center, Campus Martius, The Joe, etc. It’s once you stray beyond a couple miles into the residential/ghetto areas things become a bit shady.

I have a few friends that lived in a renovated apartment complex just across the street from the DIA, that was really nice. It’s no where as dangerous as the media makes it out to be if you stick to downtown proper, people are just paranoid, overall.

Whatever happened to the proposed RoboCop statue?!

I’m in for a Dopefest, if you give me a B for a bulletproof vest.

It isn’t that. I know there are nicer places to live in and near downtown. The problem I would have is where do I go for things like grocery shopping or clothes shopping? If I still have to drive all the way to Dearborn, Lincoln Park, or Harper Woods on a regular basis just for necessities, what’s my incentive to live in the city?

I drive to Allen Park usually, once a week. Or I drive to Royal Oak or Ferndale. The advantage to me is that it’s a casual, once a week drive, instead of a daily drive in heavy traffic. Also, I get a rent subsidy from my employer; and I can park at my apartment, so I get more money for not taking up a company-paid parking space. I don’t know if I’d live downtown, just to live here, but now that I live here, it’s pretty cool.

Any new details on this? Least Original User Name Ever wants to know if he’ll be a cool hologram.

My interest is piqued and Detroit is in my neck of the woods but I wouldn’t be able to come to a fest until at least October, as my competition is right at the end of Sept. (the 29th, to be exact) and basically every hour of my time is accounted for and regimented with my pre-contest training and diet program. So hopefully…

I was going to propose sometime over the weekend of September 21, but I’m open to other suggestions.

I won’t be back from SF until the 26th! And, of course, what’s a Dopefest without me? Since Ambivalid can’t make one til Oct., what about pushing it to then?

Also, LOUNE can only be a cool hologram if he dresses in Sith robes, which I’m sure he has one for every day of the week?

Also, w00t about the RoboCop statue!

Ok. October it is.

And it is October. Bumping to restart the discussion.

I’m still down.

I’m open every weekend except for the 19th-20th.

Just a suggestion: Detroit Biergarten!

Anybody else have times/days that won’t work? I’m busy this weekend, but probably have some time the following two, or we can start talking about November.

The parameters that bind me are…I work Saturdays until 5PM. I can get Detroit possibly by 8:00 PM

Sundays are all mine. ANytime, anywhere.

Fridays won’t work, as I have to work Sat.(see above).

Sounds like you might be coming down with a nasty cold come some not-too-far-in-the-future Saturday.

I can prolly find room in my schedule any weekend after the upcoming one.

If you do the 27th, we could have it Halloween themed. Come dressed as your favorite moderator or banned poster (as opposed to a band poster).

I can be there on the 27th by 8:00. I would be dressed as me, my favorite moderator.
