It takes two to tango.
A microwave will dry them faster.
Don’t mix the coloreds in with the whites.
Ya know – I really try to give parents the benefit of the doubt most of the time. If you catch any parent on a bad day you’d think they’re terrible … that said, stuff like THIS should be grounds for automatic termination of parental rights. That little boy is still young enough to have a chance in life if he gets placed with a good family.
Ugh. These parents are utter wastes of oxygen.
Who would expect that a washer would lock and start up if they hadn’t put any money in it? In my experience with laundromats, half the time they don’t start even when you do pay.
Front loaders at laundromats automatically lock, at least in the US. There’s even a notice to that effect on them on the laundromats I’ve used… but that requires that people actually do something silly like read the placards on the machinery.
Um… They wouldn’t lock unless someone had put money in it and pressed start. Would they?
Bahh.
These parents may well be some great parents who had one moment of sheer stupidity (and possibly bad luck). And they are probably better parents than the large number that pretty much ignore their kids, don’t raise them, barely feed them, and end up producing socially, economically, and intellectually young adults that have a good chance of having a pretty shitty life (and making everyone else around them miserable) because of it.
I’m going to guess that they lock UNTIL someone puts money in; otherwise they might just get used as trash cans or whatnot.
From the 3-seconds of video, it’s apparant the guy was just goofing around, though I can’t quite tell if he’d have jumped to open the door so quickly if he wasn’t getting reamed out by the lady next to him.
They don’t lock until someone puts money in the machine and presses start. So, who did that?
Isn’t it possible they put the money in, kept the door open to load clothes and THEN closed the door?

I went to look at the video again and now its down. Another thought occured to me. The guy might have been on autopilot and not even realized it was the kid he was putting in there. Or he was in tired parent automode and the pick up kid…put kid somewhere (unfortunately in the washing machine) routine took over.
bingo!
This is outrageous slander of this poor man. I just saw on the news that he hasn’t been identified, and neither has the child. This man may not be the boy’s father at all. Here we are smearing his good name all over the place by claiming he sired this boy, when he may have been some perfect stranger grabbing a random child and tossing him the washing machine. For shame! For shame!
HA! I finally got something right???:):):):):):):):):)
Something tells me I’m having a good day for a change!!!
YAY, me!!!
Thanks, kayaker

Q
And he was so happy about it, you saw him jumping up and down, right, TriP?
;)

I’ve never known that to be the case, after 40 years of frequenting laundromats (used to go there with my mom when I was a kid) in four different states.
^ I’ve seen people do this.
Another (currently) working link to the video here. He definitely didn’t do it on autopilot.
Yeah, you are right on that now that I can look at it again. But I don’t think he intended to have the thing spinning or filling with water either, which is what in my mind would cross the line between “maybe not such a good idea” and “we need to take your kid away child abuse”.
What gets me is the video is categorized under “Comedy.” Someone actually thought this was funny?
As for the father, yeah, I think he was goofing around and wanted to amuse his kid and just didn’t forsee the consequences. Is this evidence of bad parenting? No, he appeared to be truly concerned for the kid’s safety. Yeah, he should have been more concerned before he put him into the washer, but they did rush him to the hospital and made sure he was OK. Hopefully he learned something and won’t repeat the situation.
