I never know what to post in these situations, but here’s another Doper who’s pulling for you. If you like animals, I can offer you some unconditional love from our golden, Rusty and our lab mix Isaac – they’ve been a HUGE help to me in the past few months.
Matt, I’m so glad you have someone there to lean on. What you’re going through is so difficult, especially when you’re trying to be strong for your mom and I’m sure you feel like falling apart inside at the same time. I will add my prayers and good thoughts for comfort and strength for you and your family to the growing list. And a special prayer for Potter to help him hold you through this time.

Just a link to note that Potter opened this thread for people to express their sympathy and support for matt_mcl, though I’m sure it’s quite appropriate here as well. And incidentally to bump this thread as well – the boi has been through a lot, as is evident from reading the above, and really needs expressions of our support, in one or both threads. Let’s show him what the SDMB community is made of!!

I went though this with my dad and bladder cancer. Except for the poor prognosis, I know EXACTLY what you’re going through.

I went through this kind of stuff too when my sister died of liver cancer and my mom died of ALS… and I was on the front line when my dad ODed and was in hospital. Hang in there, amiko. Imagine that you can cry on my shoulder if you need to…
Latest news - dad_mcl has had a better night and is now showing signs of trying to wake. By no means out of the woods yet, but this sounds much more positive than yesterday’s news. Matt thanks everyone for their support, I’ve been reading him Doper posts over the phone. I’d like to thank you all too for helping him keep so strong.
More news as I hear it.

matt_mcl, we have not interacted much on the SDMB but I think you’re a great guy and I’m sorry you and your family are having to go through this. If it’s any comfort to you, I’m a brain tumor survivor and my Favorite Sister is a severe head injury/coma survivor. I’ve had two operations and some new radiation and drug therapies, and they really can do amazing things these days. I think you can reasonably hope that your father may recover enough to enjoy some more time with his loved ones here on earth. And either way he will have had the satisfaction of knowing that he has lived a good life and has a family that truly cares about him.
