Daft Punk Suggestions?

Okay, I really am not a fan of Techno music. As I view it as just background noise and there’s no vocals. Who’d listen to that? However, I own Daft Punk’s Alive 2007, and I think it’s one of the MOST BRILLIANT CDs I own. There are some REALLY great songs in there and I love the flow of the album and all the mixes in it. I love the sparse vocals, but the fact that there’s vocals combined with the music is just great stuff.

So can anyone suggest other things I’d like based on that?
(I am a fan of Crystal Method actually, and own most of their CDs, not a fan of the Chemical Brothers, though they have good songs here and there).

So, any suggestions for somewhat vocal Techno that sounds like* Alive 2007?* Daft Punk CDs I’d enjoy? Or other live techno CDs or group albums I may enjoy?

I like Daft Punk’s Discovery - or more specifically, the movie Interstella 5555, which is, basically, an hour long music video for it. (That’s as much because I’m a fan of Matsumoto as anything else, but the music is quite enjoyable itself.)

God, I gotta figure out where my copy of that is…

Have yopu checked out Justice?..their album is called Cross and probably the best thing to happen to ‘dance’ music in ages

Some of my favorite songs by them are Aerodynamic, Da Funk, Around the World, Crescendolls, and Digital Love. I think you’d like the Discovery album, and their first album Homework.

I am not a techno fan, but I have both the Discovery and Homework albums. And the Intersella dvd.

I discovered Daft Punk with a late night broadcast of Interstella on the Cartoon Network. I poked around to listen to their music (give the YouTube links a go) and definitely liked it.

If we’re going to be suggesting specific tracks…

My favourites from Daft Punk, other than those already mentioned, are One More Time and Harder Better Faster Stronger, both from Discovery. They both have a tendency to pop up in my head, for days - or months - after watching Interstella. The latter is rather different from the Alive 2007 version.

Justice, Kavinsky and SebastiAn were the openers for the Toronto stop on the Daft Punk Alive Tour a couple of years ago. I’d probably start with those… they all have that same heavily 80’s influenced electro sound (the kind of thing you can imagine listening to as you speed down a Miami street in your DeLorean).

A few other interesting artists you might enjoy in the electro/techno scene:
Boys Noize
Digitalism
MSTRKRFT
Mr Oizo
Thomas Bangalter

Lastly, just about any artist who is signed to the Ed Banger label would probably turn your crank (a few of the more prominent/good ones are already mentioned above)

If you get the chance to see them live, don’t miss it. Best concert ever.

I think you’d really like Röyksopp.

Melody AM which features Poor Leno is a good place to start.

Can’t let a mention of Daft Punk go by without mentioning LCD Soundsystem’s tribute to them, Daft Punk is Playing at My House.
