Started off weak (a bit about Crawford and a Steve Colbert interview that was unfunny except for a few bright spots) and ended strong. The awkward silence at the begining of the Steve Corell interview was priceless (“Are you here to file a report?”).
Colbert is leaving and Corell is gone. Guess we won’t be seeing “Even Stevens” anytime soon.
And because I am new to the DS, are Carrell and Stewart pretty tight? I figured the whole line about knowing he had kids was a bit, but it sounded almost genuine!
Steve Carrell was on the Daily Show for about 4 years, then left to persue a movie carreer. I assume that in that time, Steve and Jon developed a pretty good relationship.
They also played on the “who are you again?” bit last week, when one of Steve’s co-stars from the movie was on. He brought a book signed by Steve.
Jon (paraphrased): “This…this book isn’t even written by him. And he spelled my name wrong!”
I’m glad for the second part at least. I wouldn’t watch Adam Carolla if he rose John Lennon and George Harrison from the dead and had the Beatles as his house band. WHO KEEPS GIVING THIS GUY SHOWS?
I wonder if Jon suggested that his kid might “do” Steve’s kid?
I laughed my ass off, out loud, several times during the Carell interview. As a “bit,” it was freakin’ hilarious – they work together so well. They didn’t say a damned thing about The 40-Year-Old Virgin, except to comment on the creepiness of the poster – but I want to see it even more now. (I guess they had the luxury of working from the assumption that most TDS viewers were going to see the movie, anyway, as long as we’re aware of its existence. :D)
I really liked the way the mutual admiration and gratitude leaked through their ex-lovers-awkwardly-meeting -for-the-first-time -after-the-break-up schtick, without that phony Lola Heatherton/Bobby Vitman vibe that usually sticks to that sort of show-biz sentiment.
I think they’re using Carrolla as ground cover … like a farmer plants clover or grass over a field just to hold down the soil before laying in the money crop.
I guess it’s probably my fault. I’ll watch anything Carolla is affiliated with. I love the guy, but I’ve also been listening to Loveline since I was probably 10…20 years of anyhing can be disorienting I suppose.
Adam even said on loveline several weeks ago that there was too much work involved in his CC show and suggested that even though he wasnt going to run it into the ground, he wouldnt be disapointed if it didnt last. Thats why i love Adam, he has no problem admiting hes lazy.
I was very glad to see the clip of Steve Carell eating the Crisco again. My second-favorite accidental crack-up bit of all time (right behind Stephen Colbert deep-throating a banana).
