Daily Show, 8/8, Chris Rock Interview - am I too PC here?

[Fanning myself to stay composed]

And I am shocked - I do declare!

[/Fanning myself to stay composed]

That’s fine; but it comes off like a dick move…

?? He’s black so that’s impossible. Blacks can’t be racist, only evil whitey. duh. Where have you been for the last 20-30+ years? Don’t be oppressin!

Rock was making a joke about himself, not about Julie Delpy. Why would Delpy be offended? Why would anyone in this position be offended? The idea that a comedian making a joke like this is a “crass move” is astonishing.

Watching Stewart and Denis Leary or Rock slam each others as drunks or pedophiles - or slamming their comedy-insider friends like Garofalo - that is unsurprising. Absent a bit more context, it seemed dickish to me…I was going for the Delpy sympathy vote, but yes, she’s a big girl…

It was a joke about black stereotypes. It didn’t go over quite as well as Rock expected, so he had to point out that “big” meant “nice.” And then he had to add that that was just what let him first know of her, and then go back and tell the real story.

A tangent, I think Chris Rock is hilarious in “How Not to Get Your Ass Kicked by the Police” (NSFW language.) Bonus appearance by Darnell from My Name is Earl.

And as for the OP, it sounds like the two were close, or at least Rock thought they were. Yes it’s crude but who cares about PC?

I’d venture to guess that as a guy who made a movie with her, he’s a much better judge of what she would and would not find offensive than the average member of the general public who knows next to nothing about her. And based on the last few minutes of Before Sunrise, she does have a nice ass.

But it was nice of him to put on his best sneakers for that photo op.

Holy smacks! I’ve watched that a million times and never noticed that was Darnell. Awesome.

These three statements are internally contradictory.

WTF, there’s a photog right THERE, pointing his camera right at her backside, and it doesn’t wind up on the internet?

That’s just wrong…

You are assuming a more fundamental requirement.

Yes, but no, not really. I think the attitude he implied was contradictory.
