no speakers at work, but loved watching the controlled chaos
There’s not actually much to hear in the traffic video, rosie; I found it fascinating. I always use Mexico City as my baseline for bad traffic, but whatever city in India that was tops Mexico, I’m pretty sure. I’d love to see film of a similar area in Mexico.
I thought the other two were both funny, Mika, although the Hindi one was funnier. (Although wasn’t there some English mixed into that? Sounded like there was some counting going on in English.)
I’m also an owner of pr0n-free computers. It just doesn’t do much for me. Even if it did, there wouldn’t be any on there because my niece and nephew also use my computers from time to time…
Sorry to hear about your back, dogb; hope it’s better soon. Glad your knee is on the mend, LiLi. Do you have any spare husbands who would like to make my dinner tonight? No? Are you sure? ::crosses all fingers and toes::
Wow…that sounds like an enormous zuke, LiLi. Freezing for baked goods sounds like a good idea to me.
I was thrilled to get to work and find that most of the stuff that was supposed to be done while I was out was actually done. Had an incredibly long requirements walkthrough. It went from 9:30 to 12:30 or so, then we went to lunch, but kept talking on the way there, during lunch and on the way back, then we finished talking through a few more details until 3:00 or so. But we got the stuff done that we were supposed to get done and actually had decision-makers in the room when we needed them (by some miracle) and our lead developer came up with at least one new way to get where we need to go. We have a really short implementation timeline for this project, so getting as close to the actual design as possible is a really good thing. I think we all felt pretty accomplished when we were done.
But now I’m tired and can clearly feel that I’m not at 100% yet. So I’ll take it easy tonight and hopefully be able to do some gardening and housecleaning tomorrow.

OGIF! (Oh God Its Friday!)
Just another day at work. I’ve had a nap and got my heating pad going. Why do I need a heating pad? It was 98 today, I could just lean up against something outside.
Meeks, Ellen****Puggy thanks, my back is a little better today. I don’t think I will have the dog walk on my back. It hurts when she steps on my foot.
Spats MMMMM…meat. Did you have fun?
rosie, Here is a MMP summery: Pain! Joy! Work! Boats! Food!
MBG, Do you want these people taking the initiative?
**gt[/], glad you had a good day at work.
I am going to attempt little zuchinni-potato cake thingys for dinner, loosely based off a Nigel Slater recipe.
I am also attempting yogurt for the first time. Did I mention it? It’s on a heating pad, and it’s been cooking (or whatever) for five hours. I am all paranoid about it. Yogurt making seems a lot more chancy than bread baking. I am worried that the heating pad isn’t hot enough, and that I’ll poison myself.
I haven’t made yogurt in a really long time, but I’ve both used a yogurt maker and used other less controlled methods. (I think I put it in a pan of warm water in the oven or something.) As long as it thickens up and tastes good, you should be fine. Reading the recent yogurt thread made me want to make my own yogurt again since I’m really picky about it and currently only buy expensive, unusual-brand yogurt.

My baby was eight anna half lbs. No wonder I looked like Moby Mom when I was carrying her!
Hiya, everbodies! I’m posting from the Radisson on Riva Rd in Annapolis. FCD knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep on the boat tonight with no AC, so he got us a room with a king-size bed and a really cold AC unit. 'Tis nice.
The sea trials went well, except when we tacked and I was handling the jib sheets. I was hauling on the sheet when it suddenly went slack and I went tumbling backwards. The bad part was that I pulled my bad shoulder the wrong way. No damage done, but it hurt like @%*#&^#^& for a while.
But she sails well and the engine runs well, and the GPS is an ancient piece of crap, and the whole vessel is filthy. But it’s ours. And tomorrow morning, we’ll go back load the cooler and the tools and the charts, and head south.
Tonight, however, will be cool and comfy. Woohoo!
Hey y’all. This is a quick drive by post cause in just a few minutes we’re due for a hellacious thunderstorm!
Taters have fun on your trip! Take lots of pics. Remember lots of stories cause you know that we [del]nosy[/del] inquiring MMP Cool Kids will want to know everything.
Work was all about boxes of boxes and WIIIIIIRRRRRREEEEEE HAAAAAANNNNNNGGGGGGEEEEEERRRRRRSSSSSS!!!
I swear I was mentally possessed by Joan Crawford all day. Details later. The boom booms are gettin’ loud
Bye Y’all!
<eek> to wire hangers and boxes.
Took #2 son to swimming lesson, his last of the summer. Some kid threw up in the pool, so they played games by the side of the pool. And I had to watch, in the heat.
Agh. The things we do for our kids…
Pizza in the oven (we have discovered DiGiorno’s garlic bread frozen pizza–tres good).
A/C is off for a change and that’s nice. Daughter comes home tomorrow from the boundary waters of MN where she has been canoeing with church type people for 10 days. I’ve missed her.
AND, I ordered the coolest thing today from a catalogue–tis an LCD light for your faucet that lights up when you run the water! I know, you are all jealous.
Today’s Telperien TMI:
My tastes are somewhat, er, ecumenical (can you say that about porn?) so it’s possible, nay, even likely, that I like at least some of the stuff chaoticbear does. Right now though, porn for me would be something about lots of money and luxurious mansions or summat.
We’re just about packed. I still need to vaccuum my bedroom, and the upstairs hallway, but that won’t take long. After 10:00 tonight I’ll wash the kitchen floor.
I currently have a pizza in the oven. Quick, no muss, no fuss and we’ll eat off paper plates.
We’ve also just returned from Costco where I dropped a cool $700.00 on four tickets for Disneyland, California Adventures, Universal Studios, Seaworld, and our choice of the San Diego Zoo or Wildlife Park. It’s a good deal, I suppose, but my knees sort of buckled when I swiped my debit card. I wish Costco accepted credit cards, dammit. The tickets are for three days worth of Disneyland/California Adventures, and one day at the above mentioned other sites.
I’m tired already and we haven’t even left.
dobbutler, I hope your back improves soon.
FCM, I hope your shoulder isn’t too torn up. That sounds bad. I’m glad you liked the boat.
We’re off for our adventures at 4:00 am tomorrow. We’re going to take a slight detour after Eugene and cut off to highway 58 and then highway ninety something or another, which will bring us out in Weed, CA. From there it’s I-5 straight on to Sacramento. We’ll stop in Sacramento and stay overnight. Sunday morning we’ll finish our drive to LA/Anaheim.
When we return, we plan to head up the coast. It should be fun.
I’ll wave at all you Californian’s as we pass through.
mika, that video scares a guy that hires drivers. I’m hiding it so they never see it.
A brief wife rant:
Tonight is “fest” night in my old town. It’s the Friday of the big summer fest, a night we always go and catch up with people we see once a year, have a few drinks then watch the fireworks show. Kind of a nice, do-nothing night.
Today, I mentioned it by e-mail, in the form of an invitation to the wife as a “date”. She replied that she’d let me know.
Ok, so she works short days on Fridays in the summer, so was home when I got home at 5. She says she doesn’t want to go, and thinks nothing of it, she’s got stuff she can do at home, blah blah…
I had to get the tank filled for the grill, cut the grass, wash the car, etc.
About halfway through the lawn I decide I don’t want to drive 30 minutes to stand around a beer garden by myself for an hour, watch firewroks then come home. Around 7, I’m washing a pan in the kitchen sink, she says she’s going to go for her walk (it’s her new exercise kick…walking 40 minutes a few times a week.) and I should leave the pan and take my shower so I can go. I said no, I’m staying home. She asks why, I said (without malice or accusing) that I didn’t want to go by myself so I’ll stay home, I can find stuff to do here anyway.
Now she’s mad at ME. Because I’m staying home “because of” her. Well not really, she didn’t want to go, and I don’t want to go alone. She’s mad because when she said “ok, then go shower, we’ll go”, I said no. I don’t want her to go because I won’t be alone and that’ll make things better. I only want her to go if she wants to, I don’t need to be mollified by having her do something she chose not to, just so I’ll go. It’s not like this was a suprise today either, I marked this down two weeks ago, the Kid and I were talking about it last night, and as I said, it’s been something we’ve done EVERY first Friday in August for oh, about the last 20 years?
If she doesn’t want to go, she doesn’t want to go. Let her finish her walk play solitaire on the computer and watch stupid Law and Order again, because god knows that’s got to be much more like fun, right?
I’ll sit here and get some work done because it needs doing and maybe take my mind off this.
It sounds like one of those stupid fights that we get into (or used to–we have moved past that to not even working up the energy to do that much). Sorry, MBG
It actually reminds me of a great quote from a novel I read years ago: “I thought he wanted to go; he thought I wanted to go, nobody wanted to go, so we went.” I hate stuff like that.
It’s nice and cool here. So glad the air isn’t on–I am a-gonna be a miser when I get old.
That’s the thing, I don’t have the energy or will to fight over it.
I’m a little mad at myself for not just going, but I don’t want to go all that way for a short time by myself. I couldn’t shower and make it by now anyway, so just as well.
poor frustrated MBG - There’s always next year. (or is there? if you believe the fanatics, we’re all doomed, next week.) Anyway, maybe you two can find something on Pay Per View you can agree on, and cuddle on the coach.
Meanwhile, I’m a happy camper: the humidity is down, so is the temp (well, relatively at least), and Company is playing on iTunes (Pippin is next) And, I not only remembered all the lyrics to Getting Married Today, I was actually able to sing it without getting completely out of breath
It’s a shame your evening worked out unhappily, frustratingly, whatever the right word is for that, MBG.
Oh…and don’t you want your drivers to have that type of skill? You can practically count the number of accidents avoided due to skillful driving. (Personally, I thought the video looked choreographed.)
Hope you have a marvelous vacation, Taters!
Glad the boat deal worked out, FCM.
I’m about ready for bed.
GT
Sorry to read about your frustrations there MBG.
Early on in our marriage, the hubby and I had moments like that. Like you, we’d both end up staying home
Later, I’d get an invite to go somewhere, and he didn’t want to go. I just went on my own. It wasn’t as much fun without him around, but I still managed to have fun.
Now, we both go. We’ve figured each other out. Neither of us wants to make the other do something he or I don’t want to do. On the other hand, we both know that we will or won’t like doing something, so there really isn’t any dilemna now.
I need to go up and finish packing and give the upstairs a run with the vaccuum. Downstairs is clean, except for a few dishes that I’ll throw in the dishwasher.
If I don’t get back to tonight, have a great week everyone. I’ll miss the TMIs, recipes, and yes, even Spat’s puns.
Take care! I’ll be back with pics for sure. I hope I’ll have some funny stories as well. I’m sure you all just LIVE to know every detail of my life.

Nope! I’ve been there, darlin’, ridden in that traffic, walked in it, and worst of all, drove in it. A stick shift no less. That looks like Bombay. If it was Delhi there’d be more animals.
MBG, hugs to you. What else can I say?
I just spent an hour playing Luxor: Amun Rising and my hand hurts. I’m gonna have to buy that game, I think. Every time they give me a free trial I sit there and play until my trial’s up. And I’m good at it, too, although the trackball does make it hard.
Oh yeah. Yup! Vun, Too, Tree…like that. ![]()
Also, this video is for MBG:
Shhhhhhhhhh…be vewy, vewy quiet. I snuck back in here for about 15 minutes. It’s hot upstairs and vaccuuming while it’s hot up there has made me a Sweaty Betty.
Meeks, Mr. Taters enjoyed that last link. He said to thank you.
Eight more hours til’ we depart…
