Anyway, Gunslinger and I live two, maybe two and a half hours east of Dallas on I-20. We’d like to meet up with you DFW dopers but we don’t want to brave the city traffic. We’re free almost every Saturday, and could even come to town THIS Saturday if you folks could deal with the short notice. What do you say? Let’s make a plan for sometime.
Oy! This weekend is a no-go for us. We’ve got girl scout things all Saturday and plans Saturday night for a sleepover for Moxmaiden and the kids at a cousin’s place. I’m looking into having people over to play M:tG, including inviting a couple other DFW dopers while the wife and kids are away. Moxmaiden and I were talking with Grace and Legolamb about taking a trip to Mary of Puddin’ Hill which is a Old-Fashioned country store attached to a world-class chocolate/confectionry factory. They have a deli and lots of goodies inside as well. It is about 45 minutes to an hour outside of Dallas on I-30 East, so it is a bit north of you, but may be a shorter trip. Plus we could stock up on goodies for the holidays. They have tons of cool gift baskets and the prices and selection in the store are much better than on the website. It is a really neat place.
Hey, I think the 29th would be GREAT! Let’s do something that weekend. We, that is to say Mtgman and I, don’t have anything planned for that weekend yet!
Hoping that MtgMan will invite me Saturday this, but I certainly approve of plans on the 29th, too. Nothing is quite as boring as a Holiday weekend with Nothing To Do!
Don’t worry Z, you, as well as My Darn Snake Legs, Balance, and Aglarond are all invited, as well as any other DFW dopers who play M:tG. I just didn’t have your email address at work and was going to compose the invitation after I got home. I guess this could be considered yours. Please come, the more the merrier!
The website doesn’t do it justice by half. It really rocks, and the people who own it are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. When we lived in the area I had them make several custom Valentine’s day gifts for Moxmaiden and they were always accomodating and helpful as well as having one hell of a nice product. I’d call and describe something like what I wanted and when I arrived they would have put together a really nice looking arrangement. It was even nicer because around Valentines day each year they are in full production of their chocolate-covered strawberries, which are just amazing. I’d call up and say “I need some chocolate-covered strawberries and some cheesecake” or whatever I wanted that year, and they’d put it together for me to pick up and hide in some place she wouldn’t expect it. We still get their catalogs, and they open a mall-front store during the holidays in Dallas, but it isn’t the same as the Greenville store. It just doesn’t have the same character.
I am down to 6 weeks til the baby is here and it seems that what with the holidays, every weekend has something planned. However, you are living nearby, so I am sure we’ll meet at another dfw dopefest.
That place sounds like a lot of fun. We’ll have to go there sometime in the summer!
I turn 21 in January; perhaps some time around then, there could be another DFW fest and I could have a drink. I refuse to let two hours stand in my way - I’ve driven farther than that to go shopping!
Now that Zyada’s bumped this up - Greenville’s like half an hour closer than Dallas proper, I think. It’s norther but not as west. If we were going to go into Actual Dallas I think I’d prefer to meet someone in an eastern-fringe suburb and hitch a ride the rest of the way - I am terrified when I try to drive in major cities. Thanksgiving Weekend won’t work for us, as Gun has to work, but I can’t think of any other commitments we have between now and Christmas…
Judging from the looks of this thread, it’ll probably be difficult to get a large group together soon, but if you’re willing to do the drive, I don’t see a reason why we can’t have a mini-Dope. I, for one, don’t have any commitments.
Well, if I’ll drive an hour and a half to Nacogdoches just to shop for Christmas ornaments, I’ll drive two hours to the eastern fringes of Dallas to join a mini-Dope. However, being as I don’t live over there and don’t know where anything to do is, I beg someone else to pick a place and time and just let me show up.
Tomorrow (or today; it’s already past midnight), 11/23. Unless someone else pipes up, it appears that I’ll be the only one available. You can probably leave your car in Mesquite (an eastern Dallas suburb); I’ll be glad to drive y’all around.

Gotta be a Saturday and not the one after Thanksgiving due to work schedules (we both work on Sundays). After T’day before Xmas if somebody wants to still go to that puddin’ hill place, or sometime after that and hope for a larger fest.
Oh my God! I live in Greenville and would love to attend. Puddin’ Hill is pretty cool and has some stuff that would make great gifts. Please count me in.
