I love toast. Simple buttered toast. smacks lips I dare say toast makes life worth living. It’s convenient and travels well as I dash out the door to warm up my car. Pancakes and waffles are more of a weekend thing.
I realize that many people don’t like breakfast. But if you are a breakfast-er, what do you eat?
Racer, I about fell out of my chair laughing at the thread title.
I’m not a big fan of toast. Waffles and pancakes though, that’s some good livin’. I could eat doughnuts till they were coming out of my ears, but I have some discipline.
Usually I just have cereal. Cinnamon Life is my absolute favorite, but usually more expensive than I want to spend.
My usual fare involves: applesauce, scrambled eggs, some form of potato, a bowl of Crispix or Corn Chex, a glass of 2% milk, and a glass of orange juice. Mmmmm. And - if I’m really lucky - the dining hall has their breakfast burritos.
When I’m home, usually granola cereal, or Eggos with peanut butter and cold maple syrup. MMMMMmmmmm.
Simetra, I second the recommendation for Heywood’s “Toast Song.”
Mmm, warm toast.
[Except when the butter is still too hard to spread properly and ends up tearing holes in the toast. (And don’t give me that margerine stuff. Blecch!)]
And a wee bit of cinnamon/sugar mix I keep in a jar by the toaster.
If I get up too late for toast, there’s always potato bagels at Einsteins.
yep.
Other toast is acceptable, but pales in comparisson to the glory that is sourdough. I feel dearly, truly, sorry for those of you in other parts of the country who can’t enjoy true sourdough.
I, too, love toast. Not just any toast… I prefer diner made toast. For, you see, I’m incapable of making a decent piece of toast on my own. Something about those magic toasters they have in high-volume diners… I order breakfast food half the time when I eat out, just to get the side of toast.
“One piece or two?”
I ask myself.
As I grab the bread
Off the shelf.
I drop the bread
Into the slots.
Two of course,
I like toast lots.
I hope the butter
Softens in time
For the sweet toast
That will be mine.
Ka-chink goes the toaster.
Mine at last!
The butter she spreads
Smooth as glass.
I crunch and munch
And eat the toast down.
And when it’s gone
I suddenly frown.
A tear to my eye
Silently comes,
As I see my plate - nothing but crumbs.
Breakfast foods in general make me a little sick to my stomach, so I can’t really eat toast without a dose of pepto anyway. But damn, I love Pepto Bismol.
Gimme English muffin bread with soft butter or a true English muffin with more of the same. Put some of the scrambled eggs on it, some ground black pepper, bliss.

Spread some toasted cashew or almond butter on this and top with a fruit compote, kablammo!

Sometimes just a little marmalade, (Roses™ Lime Marmalade, yummmm!) and a cup of Irish breakfast tea with cream and sugar on a cold winter’s morning.
My breakfast consists of some coffee and a cigarette [okay, so you can’t eat a cigarette…it’s just a big part of my morning routine…you can’t have coffee without a ciggie in the mornin’]
On the weekends, I make a trip to Einstein Brothers, get a dozen bagels, many of them asiago cheese. I move the toaster to the kitchen table, and put butter and cream cheese on the table, as well as knives for slicing and spreading same. If I’m feeling ambitious, there’ll be OJ and coffee
My breakfast is always a cup of coffee and one or two slices of toast. (Lately its just one because I don’t eat much in the mornings… I’m not that hungry… though if Grandma makes pancakes or french toast I will eat it. I also sorta miss having Panakukua which is really yummy…) I only eat toast because we don’t really have anything else to eat for breakfast… if I could I would eat toasted bagels with cream cheese (preferably onion bagels with herb and garlic cream cheese but since I rarely brush my teeth before running out the door that wouldn’t be a good idea…)
sings as she wanders off
When all the toast is burned
And all the world has turned
And Captain Crunch is waving farewell
Let this song remind you
That your soul will find you
And they don’t serve breakfast in hell
