My favorite quote from my time living in D.C.:
“In D.C. there is only one appropriate reaction to snow. When you see the first flake, you must slam on your brakes and slide into the ditch.”

come on, snow! Don’t let these guys scare you away! WE NEED THAT SNOW!!!
Why do we NEED snow?? We don’t need snow, are you crazy? Snow either comes or it doesn’t. I just hope I can get out of the airport! Please don’t wish for snow that will shut down the airport!
We need snow because it’s wintertime and it’s been below freezing for the past six months (or so it seems). Ain’t no point in being cold without snow to go with it.
We need snow because Washington looks beautiful when it snows.
We need snow so people can sit by the window and let the snow fall down, and stop worrying about other petty bullshit.
We need snow to shut down the airport so cute chicks like yourself don’t leave Washington to go back to Tennessee.
And, finally, we need snow because I want it to, dammit!
My office has the wonderful policy of following the Federal Government in terms of winter weather. The Federal government closes, my office closes, and I get a free day off.
Needless to say, I am less than thrilled with the prospects of a major storm hitting on a Friday night of a long weekend. All of the hassle, none of the extra time off. Given that I was also planning to haul ass up to Pennsylvania to visit friends for New Year’s… well, quite frankly, it sucks.
Now, were we to get hit with a foot of snow come Tuesday night, I’d be ecstatic. But snow tonight is the worst timed, most annoying storm I could think of. Blech.
Does this mean your parents might still be visiting on New Year’s Eve? Like when you’re hosting a party? And since I’m planning to be there…when did you say their flight was, Falc? I’ve got to get the wording of my prayers right!
Other than that, it can snow all it wants as far as I’m concerned.
Montfort, you forgot,
we need snow when I’m there too,
a lot, so we can stay in bed all day
and watch it through the window.
The flight is at 2 tomorrow. And it BETTER leave. If my parents are here for one more day, I may shoot myself. Or them. Or someone.
Well, Montfort, I appreciate the compliment, but I think I will kill my parents too if I don’t get out of here!! I like snow as much as the next guy, just not tonight and tomorrow! All I ask for is that I can get from here to TN and for my boyfriend to get from CA to TN so we can be back together again. I need to get away from my parents!

Might want to try getting them onto a plane tonight, if space is available…
My dad already tried that, RT. My mother is CONVINCED they’ll be able to fly out tomorrow. My dad is of the opinion that they should either a) get a hotel room near the airport, or b) go on standby for tonight.
Oh well…just ralize we might have a maid/bulter at my party. (Oh good LORD…)
Please let it only be 2-6 inches!

YES! Please don’t let us have a big storm!
We NEED snow because otherwise I’ll be sad and I’ll be forced to pout.
All the forecasts I’ve seen call for 3-6" or so (meaning: 1" to a foot) starting sometime after midnight tonight.
OESGal, MamaFalcon and PapaFalcon, I hope your flights are tonight…

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! My flight is tomorrow at 12:35. I did want to leave on Friday when I originally planned this. Back in AUGUST! DAMMIT!
OES -
I wanted my parents to leave today too! But nooooooooooo, they’re leaving tomorrow. (And going to Memphis, incidentally. Not too far away from you!)
crosses fingers They HAVE to leave tomorrow.
I’m with you Falcon, I have my fingers crossed for both of us!
Oh, you poor, poor, poor, poor babies!!!
Love,
Matt from Montreal
P.S.
Oh dear oh dear. OSEGal, Falcon, I hope the planes fly hither and yon for y’all tomorrow. It’s really lousy to plan months in advance or whatever and then Nature casually screws you over.
Matt, I have great-aunts up in Nova Scotia who are probably dusting off the snowmobiles right now. They told me last summer that the poor things haven’t been used for three years. Unfortunately, prepared as they are for cold, I didn’t know heat until I stayed for a week in a Cape Breton farmhouse with no cross-ventilation, no fans…at least they had air conditioners in Halifax.
Have fun scuttling around underground in that big mysterious complex you have. Or is that Toronto I’m thinking of?
Please bite my grew-up-in-Winnipeg-where-men-are-men-and-cats-wear-parkas ass. Thank you.
