The modern Pravda paper is not respected. It’s more like a tabloid. It was respected in the Soviet Era, but no more. It functions like an independent news outlet, relying on sales of t-shirts and whatnot. That and it’s wildly cranky (see: bodycount of US soldiers in Afghanistan).
Ryan - did you do History GCSE? Pravda’s moved on a bit since then
I feel like I’m following you round the boards today and pointing out this and that and I’m sorry if you get that impression, but generally it’s not looked upon kindly to say “Hey, look at how stupid this message board is!” because through lessons learned in the past, inter-board rivalry and cross-posting isn’t fun and can lead to all sorts of messyness.
Think of Pravda like The Sun - would you take what Sun readers said seriously? Nah.
Except I don’t read the Chicago Reader, so I don’t neccessarily believe that an English speaking board originating with an English speaking tabloid in the region will be confined to it readership.
What worries me is that most of these posts being in English indicate that the poster has acquired a second language and which he is fluent enough in to enjoy posting in it. We are talking about educated people here, and the regional and nationalistic differences even hatreds that I have read are disturbing.
