The music Bristol waltzed to was hauntingly beautiful (it turns out it’s from The Passion of the Christ?!), but it was not quite a regular enough waltz for a not-too-great dancer like Bristol to dance to. It’s very irregularities were one of the things that made it so beautiful to listen to, but it just didn’t work very well for dance. Mark coped with it quite well in his choreography, but it was never going to be anything but a difficult dance.
I wasn’t seeing all the love for Bristol’s Paso that the judges gave. It seemed to me one with all her other dances - good lines, good footwork, but tentative and vacant. Certainly not worthy of the same nines they gave to Brandy for her Paso. I wouldn’t mind so much that they grade based on their expectations of each individual dancer, if they’d just admit that they grade based on their expectations of each individual dancer, but they never do.
Kyle looked great last night, and managed to do a very difficult thing: a very good tango to wholly inappropriate music. I split my votes between him and Jennifer. And I would not be shocked if Brandy was the one who went down tonight. It wouldn’t surprise me if the voters got Bristol into the final Two. She’s got to be the least skilled dancer I’ve seen make it into the semi-finals, let alone the finals.
Brandy (Paso) – I liked it, but it seemed just a bit on the edge of out of control.
Jennifer – Much as I’ve come to love Jennifer, I wasn’t all over the choreography on this one. The amount of boobie shaking was a tad excessive. She executed it well, though.
Bristol (Paso) – It was not a bad dance for her, but her awkward transitions really emphasized how much lower her skill level is than anyone else’s. Plus, the lack of finesse in the thrust arms really emphasized how much she doesn’t know why she’s doing the things she’s doing.
Kyle (Samba) – I really like Kyle, and I hope he makes the finals. I think he showed a step up in technique here. Making the ‘wait for his freestyle’ point was a good move on Lacey’s part, I think – I mean, I’ll probably be annoyed at the total lack of ballroom in it, but does anyone actually want to see how painful Bristol’s freestyle will be?
Brandy (Tango) – Really perfect. And some fantastic choreography from Maks, which I rarely think of as being his strong suit.
Jennifer (Waltz) – I managed to get distracted and not watch this, and then went back to start it over and managed to not watch it again. I gather it was lovely, but I have no idea.
Bristol (Waltz) – I will say her personality flaws turned out to be features in this dance. It really worked for me in a way nothing else she’s done ever has. I thought it was quite lovely.
Kyle (Tango) – Too much Kyle standing still and supporting Lacey while she danced. Really good when he actually was dancing, but not enough of it.
My hope is for Jennifer, Brandy and Kyle in the finals, but I have a feeling the judges and producers were setting things up for people not to be outraged when Bristol pushes out Kyle.
I went to vote for Kyle, but ABC wanted me to log on to my ABC account, which I don’t have. It also said I could log-in using a social network, so I tried logging in using my Facebook account, but that didn’t let me vote, so I didn’t bother after that.
I was never for a minute in Camp Bristol, but I thought her dances last night were the realization of what SHOULD be happening in this competition: An amateur, who manages to get really, really good.
Now I agree with the judges’ scores, that she wasn’t quite as great as the others. But look where she started. It was just amazing to see how far she’s come.
I’m not saying she should win, but if she were up against people who’d started at the same level she did…well.
Audrina should have been there before Bristol and Kyle, though.
My apologies if this has already been discussed - I just caught a few minutes of the show on Monday.
I was a bit taken aback by Bristol. She’s a beautiful girl and a fairly decent dancer. What startled me was her appearance. She seems so bloated, especially in her face. It looks a lot like the chipmunk cheeks someone gets when they are on Prednisone.
OK, so what do you want to bet that Bristol will end up winning this thing? If I had to put money down on it, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate laying down a few bucks right now.
I thought the dwts winner was decided by the judges and not fan votes?
I understand this show is primarily a popularity contest that features dancing. But, IIRC the judges pick who gets the mirror ball. But, I’m not completely sure.
Congratulations to Kyle for making it to the finals. I never thought it was possible. He stumbled a few times. I still shudder at that horrible disco dance impersonating that dude from the Love Boat’s Afro & stach. That was a bigger mess than the Gorilla Dance Palin did. But, Kyle has improved and gotten better week by week. I’m so glad he made it.
Jenn is my favorite. I’m looking forward to her freestyle. I’m hoping she gets that Mirror Ball next week.
Bristol is obviously a fan favorite with the viewers. This show is primarily a popularity contest that features dancing. She has helped get great ratings for the show. As the fan favorite she’s earned a place in the finals.
I was disappointed with the design a dance. I’ve wanted to see a Cheryl/Derek dance for a long time. I was underwhelmed to say the least. Cheryl’s had a couple free weeks to choreograph something special. What I saw tonight had too many gimmicks. There wasn’t enough dancing for me.
And you know, I just don’t get it. I am trying to imagine if my all-time favorite politician had a family member on the show. How is voting for said family member doing anything for my favorite politician? How is it doing anything but hurting the integrity of the show? (And I use the word integrity lightly there.)
The first few weeks are all about voting for your favorite – whether it’s your favorite actress or sports star or just someone you want to see how they do after a few weeks. That’s fine. Heck I spend the first few weeks voting for my favorite pro sometimes too.
I have nothing against Bristol Palin. And I’ve never been a Brandy fan at all. But that was just ridiculous tonight. Flabbergasted and upset.
(Plus I’m with Bruno in that I was totally looking forward to a Brandy/Maks freestyle too!)
Considering how the Palinites have been gaming the system, the shock would have been had Bristol not made it to the final. Way to show a girl that she’s too incompetent to be judged on her actual merits, tea-baggers! (At least, that’s how I’d be seeing it if I were Bristol.)
The thing is, the last weeks of DwtS are usually not an out-and-out popularity contest. I haven’t always agreed with the winners, but they’ve always been arguably among the most competent dancers. This is the first time a real incompetent has made it to the finals.
there was a show called “ballroom bootcamp” or something like that on tlc. people would go on to lose weight and get in shape using ballroom dancing. that would be the show for bristol. it was interesting to see how people changed from the first show to the last.
mostly i just tune into the dwts thread here and only watch if i think there will be a bit of a wreck like tucker carlson.
