I feel stupid. I felt it was weird going from judges comments straight to scoring, but I didn’t realize it was because the interviews were done before the dance instead of after. I do like the old way of dance, comments, interview, score.
No, it’s also for up and coming Disney Channel stars who want to break out of the tween ghetto, soap opera stars and athletes that are trying to gain some traction in the entertainment arena outside their niche (doesn’t Apollo Ohno host a game show now?), and random other names that someone thinks are going to draw some eyeballs such as Bristol Palin and Chaz Bono.
In point of fact, they look for the 13 most famous people they can find who have nothing scheduled for 3 months.
I figured Keyshawn would be the one to go. Yeah, Bill Nye was the worse dancer, but he had too big a fan-base. I felt bad for Keyshawn, but I think his height and size limited his dancing ability unfortunately.
Anyway, my non professional opinions and ranking:
[ol]
[li]Amber & Derek - Last week the judges thought they were the best and though I liked their performance, I didn’t think it was the best. This week I thought it was the best and the judges weren’t as hot on them. Oh well. - Judges 8/8/8 - 24[/li][li]Elizabeth & Val - I loved it. Constant movement and dancing; not a boring moment. - Judges 8/9/8 - 25[/li][li]Christina & Mark - Missed most of it, but I liked what I saw - Judges 9/8/8-25[/li][li]Jack & Cheryl - Elegant & Graceful - Judges 8/8/8 - 24[/li][li]Corbin & Karina - Loved the energy and the non-stop dancing. Judges 9/8/9 - 26[/li][li]Leah & Tony - Seemed just a tad bit stiff, for lack of a better work, but I thought they did good overall. Judges 8/8/8 - 24[/li][li]Brant & Peta - Pretty good, but my mind started drifting part way through. - Judges 8/7/8 - 23[/li][li]Bill E. & Emma - I liked it well enough. Not show-y or flashy, but pretty solid. Judges 7/7/7 - 21[/li][li]Nicole & Sasha - I would have liked to see more dancing - Judges 6/7/7 - 20[/li][li]Valerie & Tristan - I know she had to protect her knee, but it negatively affected her dancing. - Judges 6/6/7 - 19[/li][li]Keyshawn & Sharna - Not to sound like a jerk, but I found it slow and boring, he looked like he got out of synch a couple of times, and at the end it looked like he almost forgot his finishing move. Judges 6/6/6 - 18[/li][li]Bill N. & Tyne - Better than last week, but he still obviously needs work. His fan-base will carry him for a little while, I hope he keeps improving so that he can get good judges scores too. Judges 6/5/6 - 17[/li][/ol]
Personally, I like Leah Remini, Valerie Harper, Bill Engvall, and Jack Osbourne and hope they all stay on for a while.
I’ll watch the video later and make comments then. I started watching last night and heard Mark say their Paso was a Lady Gaga song. Second dance of the second show and the producers are up to their old tricks. Oh hell no. I switched to The Voice. The shorter one minute dances are frustrating me too. We sit through so much filler and the pay off is a 60 second dance that is over before it barely starts?
I’ll watch DWTS on video delay this season and fast forward as needed.
Totally forgot about watching the premiere, so last night was my first experience with this season (new format plus new stars).
Random comments:
Mark Balas might be the biggest freaking tool in the universe.
Valerie – yeah, we salute your bravery. Now go home and take care of yourself. I don’t watch DWTS to contemplate mortality.
Jack Osborne seems like a nice kid – which doesn’t surprise me, since we’ve already found out that Sharon is apparently quite sane, judging by the results of her parenting. Hope he’s around for a while.
Julianne Hough judging? That’ll be interesting.
I hope Bill Nye’s fans don’t keep him around longer than he’s continuing to enjoy himself, because damn, that’s some Master P-quality dancing.
Anyone else think that Corbin comes off as more than a tool compared to Mark? During the judging (and yes, he’s a great dancer IMO), he didn’t have to rub it into people’s faces how “great” he is.
Jack surprises me. For somebody who doesn’t think of himself a dancer, he certainly has the innate musicality from his dad and his sanity from his mom
I think Snookie/Nichole has the raw materials, but she needs to seriously refine them.
I could watch Amber, Elizabeth, and Christina all day.
Loved Bill E.'s dance. I think he could be a very good dark horse.
And yeah, I don’t see Bill N. lasting much longer. Ditto Valerie and Leah.
I’m kind of surprised it was Keyshawn. Usually athletes get at least a couple of weeks due to their fanbases. He & Kenny Mayne can commiserate together at ESPN.
Brant improved a lot over the past week. The ringers still both bother me. And I’m still liking Bill E, Jack, and Amber.
His dancing was worse than 99% of the athletes on the show though - usually strength and body control help them out, but he had so little natural talent it didn’t help him. The person it reminded me of was Martina Navratilova, who also left week 1.
I don’t know much about dancing, so this may seem like a stupid question, but what exactly is meant by flat footed in regards to her dancing? Was she literally lifting her foot and then putting it down flat, instead of putting her heal down first and lowering the rest of her foot?
Ah, OK. Just the opposite of what I was thinking. Of course I’m literally flat footed, so the thought standing on the balls of my feet never entered my mind.
