Dancing with the Stars -- DWTS -- Fall 2013 with Bill Nye the Science Guy

If I’ve got this right, dancers are scored this week; viewers vote this week; dancers are scored next week; then voted out based on judge 1, judge 2 and viewers 2.

That seems to imply that the judges get twice as much weight as the viewers? Or do they just average the judges’ scores?

(Personally, I think the judges should get twice as much weight – and which would lead to worse dancers going out first).

Have you seen her husband? He’s drop dead gorgeous and in the audience every week cheering her on, even in between running between Paris and NY with his clothing and fragrance line. I think they are in this thing together. This week Kristen Davis sat beside him, a couple of weeks ago Steven Tyler was his guest.

Not twice as much weight, the same weighting.

The judges scores from last night were combined with our votes from last week to send someone home. So in Valerie’s case it was our votes from last week’s Freddie Murcury dance, combined with the score from the Viennese Waltz last night that sent her home.

Next week our votes will be combined with the new scores for week 5 - Monday Oct 14 that will determine who stays or goes. If you like someone who’s on the brink, wait till after the end of the show to cast your vote because they might be wasted if your favorite gets voted off.

I have no idea who her husband is. It just looked like Elizabeth was REALLY into Val.

She *is *an actress.

Val seems to bring that out in his partners.

I meant before and after the dance.

Elizabeth is very much of the Hollywood artsy social crowd, very affectionate bunch. I wouldn’t read much into it beyond her appreciation and thrill of dancing again. Val did compare her to Sherry Shepherd in enthusiasm. I’m assuming next Monday they’ll have another good dance, since Val mentioned it on twitter.

Here’s something to “get excited about” From E Entertainment Monday’s Dance Card

Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy (Jive): “I’m So Excited,” The Pointer Sisters
Amber Riley and Derek Hough (Foxtrot): “Try A Little Tenderness” (Glee version), Glee Cast
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber (Jazz): “Work Bitch,” Britney Spears
Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd (Contemporary): “Your Song,” Elton John
Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani (Contemporary): “Roar,” Katy Perry
Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff (Foxtrot): “My Wish,” Rascal Flatts
Christina Milian and Mark Ballas (Cha Cha): “Forget You,” Cee Lo Green
Bill Engval and Emma Slater (V. Waltz): “She’s Always a Woman,” Billy Joel
Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke (Waltz): “I’m Kissing You,” Des’ree

Yeah, isn’t this Angst Week?

I have been appalled at some of the music choices this season. Some seasons are better than others. This one has been bad. (“Weird Science” case in point.)

The idea of anyone having to dance to “Your Song” is just ghastly, but at least it’s contemporary and not (shudder) a waltz.

I so wish they hadn’t added contemporary as one of the genres.

I think Elizabeth danced to I’m So Excited in Showgirls. Her angst will probably be that movie. It’s done really well in home video sales and rentals. The critics hated it but no one cares about them anyhow.

Yeah, this isn’t SYTYCD. Without Mia or Tyce, how can these ballroom dancers be expected to do well in that genre?

DWTS is a ballroom competition. Well, mostly anyways…

Yeah, but it ruined her career. I, and I’m sure a lot of people, can’t name anything she’s done between then and now without looking it up on IMDB.

I’m So Excited is from an episode of Saved by the Bell,

Ok, I stand corrected. I kept thinking of Elizabeth pole dancing to that song. Glad to see it was from her tv show.

I think that Chritina & Mark, Jack & Cheryl, Corbin & Karina, Nicole & Sasha, and Elizabeth & Val had good dances. No real comments for any of them beyond that.

Leah & Tony - Too many lifts and carries. I’m a big fan and I’m disappointed because it felt a little like cheating. She didn’t have to do hardly any dancing. I really hope she steps it up next week.

Bill & Emma - His best dance yet. I love how he moved his feet. I’d have to vote him most improved. My only complaints were how long it took to start dancing, and then there was something about the end of the dance that I didn’t like, but I can’t put it into words.

Brant & Peta - I wasn’t as impressed as the judges. For one thing they seemed to keep fixing their clothes which kept coming loose.

Amber & Derek - A good dance, but not as entertaining as previous dances.

The elimination was a surprise but no big shock - I had never heard of the celeb. and still don’t know why she’s famous. Her fan base must have been fairly small.

Have you hit the bottom of the barrel, pathos-wise, when you dance to support your sister’s courageous battle with scoliosis?

And no more Mark… doubt he has much of a fan base either. It’s my impression that many of the dancers have a core of folks voting for them and not the celeb.

IIRC she’s a former Disney kid, but yeah, she hasn’t had the same breakout success as other former Disney kids.

If I’m wrong about the Disney kid thing, feel free to correct me. But memory’s telling me such.

Christina Milan was on the Voice last season. Back stage correspondent or whatever they called it. She didn’t come back this season.

So glad Julianne Hough called out Mark for showing off and distracting attention from his partner. That issue has come up frequently on various boards over the years. He’s called by Mr. Spats by many because he wears them so often.
