Dancing with the Stars -- DWTS -- Fall 2013 with Bill Nye the Science Guy

Loved Elizabeth and Val last night. I got So Excited. Great dance choro by Val.

A bit disappointed that a really good dancer got eliminated early. But it happens on DWTS. At least she got her first 1o.

He comes across with major conceit. He often does that “Look at me DANCE!” stuff which doesn’t help his partners.

Also, I’m not against tats, but his look horrible.

The major issue I’ve seen over several boards talking about him, is that he seems to act like a jerk. To his partners, the other pros, the other celebs… He wouldn’t last long on the SDMB if he posted here with the same apparent attitude he has on the DWTS show.

Elizabeth and Val were just cheezy fun, loved it, my favorite of the night even if Liz wasn’t perfect, they did this for the fans and it was great.

Corbin and Karina are very good. I thought he may have been missing some heel leads, but the judges didn’t comment.

Snooki and Sasha, well it was interesting. Some like it, I found it to be something you’d see maybe in a club or something.

Bill and Emma he did okay, had some missteps. .

Jack and Cheryl he did better technically, and his dance really moved me. He’s actually got a dancer’s soul under that Osbourne wit.

Brant and Peta I think he’s a sincere guy, I would have liked him with Cheryl, I think she could have really brought out a performance.

Leah and Tony it started out strong and then fell apart. choreography wasn’t great.

Amber and Derek this is the first week I actually forgot about them. A Foxtrot needs some foxtrot in it.

Christina and Mark - eliminated- the Julianne comment might have been more relevant with some of his other partners, but with Christina I thought he was more subdued, her Cha Cha was pretty strong,10 from Len felt like a “thanks for playing” sympathy score.

I never saw Saved By The Bell. Was that part in front of Elizabeth’s dance some well-known schtick from that show?

And how short must Snookie be? Seeing her stand beside the other women was shocking.

StG

Yes, there was an episode where her character got hooked on caffeine pills to show the dangers of taking drugs. (youtube link)

4’9".

And for the record: she was absolutely right about turning her life “180 degrees”. If you turn your life around 360 degrees, you’re heading in the same direction. Her partner is an idiot.

Next Week a Switch Up Marathon.
Episode 1706” – Eight remaining couples hit the dance floor and face an exciting new challenge on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, OCTOBER 21 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Each couple will compete in an individual dance style they have not yet done as well as take part in the first ever “Switch-Up Challenge.” In this fresh take on a dance marathon, couples will compete side by side, in two rounds, with no prior knowledge of dance style or musical accompaniment. One by one, the judges will select couples to be tapped-off/removed from the dance floor. Extra judges’ points will be awarded to couples based on longevity. The show will also feature a spectacular opening number with the entire cast, choreographed by Lacey and Benji Schwimmer. Additionally, musical guest Ariana Grande and Mika will perform their hit duet “Popular.” At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.
Hosted by Emmy® Award-winning host Tom Bergeron (“America’s Funniest Home Videos”) and Brooke Burke-Charvet (“Dancing with the Stars” Season 7 Champion), “Dancing with the Stars” is the hit series in which celebrities perform choreographed dance routines which are judged by renowned ballroom judge Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

Dancing a tango to Jimmy Buffet’s Cheeseburger In Paradise? Of all the awful song/dance pairings in DWTS history, this has got to be the worst.

Thrilled with the Joss Stone- Put Your Hands On Me Cha Cha. Great job Elizabeth and Val.

Is it just me, or is the judging this year beyond random? I guess it’s the only way the judges can send a message to the pro.s about what they want to see or not see in certain dances. It’s a shame for the celeb.s if they do a great dance but get scored poorly because of choreography, but on the other hand, it might stop the pro.s from taking more and more liberties with the dances.

The Cheeseburger in Paradise worked for me - all Bill E. has going for him is his personna so why not?

I like Bill E. too. He represents what this show is supposed to be about. A amateur learning to dance. Bill has some moves and is learning. I see him improve every week. He’ll never catch up to the semi-pro ringers and I don’t care. His dances are fun to watch.

I hope fans vote hard to save him. I’m so glad there wasn’t an elimination last night.

Liz and Val remain my weekly favorite. Val seems to respect her as a former dancer. Not a fumbling amateur. He’s giving her appropriate choreography. A little sexy but nothing raunchy. I hope to see them in the finals.

Loved seeing Alec Mazo and Edyta Sliwinska in the audience last night (earlier season pros; husband and wife, with baby to make three in January).

Surprised that Tom (or Brooke) didn’t chat with them on camera.

Really good dancing all around tonight.

I’m a fan of Leah’s and though she has some work to do I thought tonight she was much more confident and relaxed. Although I wish there were less lifts and pauses.

When it came down to Bill or Nichole going home I had no idea, because while Nichole is clearly the better dancer I had no idea who had the bigger fan base at home. Frankly, I’m a little shocked that it was Bill.

Last weeks almost elimination scare probably encouraged more people to vote for Bill. Isn’t he the first comic thats done reasonably well on DWTS? IIRC Margaret Cho, Adam Carolla and Steve Guttenberg didn’t last very long. I can’t another recall a comic doing very well on DWTS.

I liked the Halloween group dance the best. But the judges gave it to the other group.

Andy Dick lasted quite a while. Perhaps not this long, but for more weeks than his pure dancing talent would suggest. Like Bill E isn’t a natural dancer and he is seems a fair bit older than the other contestants, but he’s certainly improving each week.

Not too sad to see Snookie go home, a little bit of her personality goes a long way and she appeared to be just going through the motions last night.

Hey y’all. I don’t regularly watch this show, but my homepage news feed popped up a shot of Snookie crying after her elimination, which I have no opinion about. However, in the photo my home page showed, it looked like she’d fallen on her face – she was bruised all over.

What the hell happened to Snookie’s face? I come to you, fellow Dopers, for answers, because I know all y’all are faster and more accurate than Google.

The dancers were divided into two teams for a group dance. The theme for Snookie’s group was Halloweeen. She was wearing makeup.

:smack:

Halloween. Of course. Thanks!

I, for one, thought both groups were just terrific and it should have been a tie!

Val continues to surprise me. He’s got such a great attitude about the show.
