Dancing with the Stars -- DWTS -- Spring 2014 (Season 18)

Billy Dee should’ve danced to Bill Murray as the Lounge Singer crooning “Star Wars… Nothing but Star Wars… Fighting those Star Wars… All over space…”

Yub Yub!

i finally watch the show (sort of) and no traffic in the thread! usually this thing goes multi pages.

it seems there is a good crew of people this time around.

i did watch ballroom bootcamp which i think was a better dancing reality show. in some ways it is a shame that people get voted off, perhaps in week 5 or something things might “click”. no chance of that in this format.

I’m liking Drew.

Didn’t have much to say this time around…this is my least favorite week and so I fast forward through almost everything but the dances.

I’m not sure I understand the switch format and I’m not up to navigating abc.com to find out. I thought it was a permanent switch, but now it seems like it’s just for one week. The former sounds more interesting than the latter.

Random comments:

  • Are they afraid of Nene’s height or can she just not wear heels? They keep putting her in flats and it’s not helping.
  • I’m not unhappy that Billy Dee dropped out, I am unhappy that he took another contestant out instead of dropping out a week earlier. I wasn’t a huge fan of hockey guy, but he could have used another shot. Were I his fan, I’d be pissed.
  • Charlie needs edge. I liked the jive, but for the beginning part (when he danced with random crew members), I couldn’t believe it because he was just too nice about it.
  • Cody bothered me less this week than in previous weeks.

The mean girl in me (I’m very slightly older than they are) has noticed and thought the same thing.

When Winnie was talking about the conversation she had with Draco, I KNEW exactly which song she picked to dance to.

I hate emo week. Apparently if there’s one thing TV loves more than blood, it’s tears.

And…seriously? She named her kid Draco?

Looks like Amy is mostly going to get spun around in the air by Derek, at least until they get one of those “no lifts!” dances.

It was a name her ex-husband liked. It grew on her.

Amy’s jive this week was impressive. I guess its her conditioning as an Olympic athlete that is making a difference. I know a couple amputees at work and theres no way they could move like this. Amy is doing stuff I never saw Heather Mills do.

The Stars on Ice tour seems to be taking a toll on Charlie and Meryl. I can’t imagine traveling all day, performing and then having to rehearse for dwts. Charlie seemed really stressed this week.

Danica and Val are still my favorites. They’ve impressed me every week with their dances.

Danica McKellar broke a rib in practice.

Watching delayed:

It’s ‘Injury Night’ on Dancing With the Stars!

Damn, Peta, did you leave your dress in the closet? But thank you!

I’m not sure who I’m rooting for. Danica, of course, but I can never get enough of Sharna so I want her and Charlie to stick around to the end. And I’m liking Meryl a lot even though she and Charlie are the biggest ‘ringers’ this season. I like Candace, too, and I think she’s been working hard and improving, despite still having a few hangups. I’d probably prefer NeNe to go next, or maybe Amy.

Whatever Charlie & Sharna were selling, I bought it. I loved that dance. I usually find him too “likable” during some of the dances and I think he pulled this one off with power and intensity, even though the judges didn’t.

I know that DWTS wants to feature the troupe. But when they show the troupe members doing the same thing as the “stars” you can really easily see where the stars (even ones who are actually pretty ok) just don’t measure up. It’s not a good idea.

And I think I’d like the team dance better if both teams either had the same dance or the same choreographer. One of those dances was just a better dance, no matter who was doing it.

Recap of Latin Night. I like to watch the The Voice and keep tabs on DWTS with the recap. The dances I care about seeing are on youtube. It’s a shame these two great shows have to be on at the same time.

Injury update.

Rib out of place? That can’t be good. Can that happen without it being cracked or broken?

wow! 1 show 2 rib injuries. yes, you can dislocate a rib.

i also liked charlie’s dance. it was a different side of him and i thought it was well done. the slidy dip at the end was quite something.

I’m chiming in to say that I liked Charlie’s paso, too. It seems like whenever they have a celebrity who is “too nice”, the pro always tries to use the paso to try to force this aggressive side to come out, and it rarely works in their favor. I liked how Charlie played it serious, but not over-the-top alpha-man. That character wouldn’t have felt right on Charlie, yet the one he did was quite appropriate for the dance without all that aggression.

Well, I like them all so much, I can’t possibly pick a favorite. James is so good and he’s so cute. It would be nice to see Max win one after so many years and of course Meryl is awesome, so I could go that way, but Charlie is adorable and so talented.

I’m enjoying this season.

Well, that sucks.

For tonight’s dances -
Candace & Mark - she fell apart during the waltz and “Nasty” shouldn’t look that soft
Charlie & Sharna - The NY NY Foxtrot was amazing. The samba, less so, but still very, very good. Sorry to see them go.
Amy & Derek - I really liked her quickstep & I’ve generally not been as impressed by her dancing as by Derek’s choreography. The jazz fell into the “great choreography” for me.
Meryl & Maks - I don’t understand what Maks dressed her in for that Viennese waltz, it was fantastically ugly and she couldn’t point her toes in those boots, which hurt a few of the lines. The dance was lovely.

I really enjoyed Maks and Meryl, she’s just so good. I think she’s probably become my favorite. And Derek is awesome.

Another season almost done.
