I’ve only heard of who you’ve heard of. Charo, huh? I didn’t realize she was even still alive. I would expect the gymnast and the figure skater to do pretty well.
What happened to Chris Kattan? He dances like a zombie.
I thought the cowboy was pretty good, and was surprised at how low he scored. Other than that, pretty meh. Oh, and what a shock that an Olympic Gymnast does the best. Who would’ve known!?!?!
My wife and I have never watched before, but being huge Cubs fans we’re watching for David “Grampa” Ross. FF over all the other people. When he’s gone, we’re gone.
Before this ep aired, I was interested in Kattan and Charo.
Now, I’m not sure if my and wife and I will be able to find anyone to root for. They are either boring, or high maintenance, chip on their shoulder, etc… Man, maybe they need to rest this show for a while. And I’ve been a regular fan for most of the seasons.
A lot of ‘ringers’ this season. I couldn’t believe it when I heard Heather Morris was going to be a contestant. I used to watch Glee, and she was known on that show for her dancing, and I knew that she had been on SYTYCD. And there’s a gymnast, a figure skater, and a pop star.
David Ross isn’t that good a dancer, but he seems to be trying and he and Lindsey are a lot of fun to watch.
Mr. T probably won’t last much longer, but he comes across as very genuine and has a good attitude.
Sharna is my favorite pro, but I’m not digging her team this season. “Showmances” always make me gag–no doubt they are sometimes real, but it seems like a terrible idea to start a relationship under such circumstances. Bonner seems like the type who could get a big fanbase behind him, though. On the other hand, I was just reading about ‘the grab’ that threw some viewers into a tizzy. I watched the video and it looked perfectly accidental to me.
Rashad Jennings is probably my favorite. I am not familiar with him (I don’t really follow sports), but he dances really well, seems like a good guy, and I like Emma and her choreography.
At first it was fun seeing Chris Kattan, but he didn’t appear to be having that much fun himself. He seemed to leave on a sour note–“Why didn’t they talk about my injury before?”
And Charo… yeesh. I remember seeing her on TV shows when I was kid. She was crazy then and seems even crazier now, though I wonder how much of that is just an over-the-top act that she does. I actually got a kick out of her feuding with Bruno. She looked to be in really good shape for her age, though the plastic surgery on her face is kind of off-putting. I almost wish she would have stuck around. I think Keo looked immensely grateful for being eliminated.
**Week 4 - the always-sappy “Most Memorable Year” theme
**
I’ll post the elimination in a spoiler box at the end of this post.
Until now, I thought the judges had shown uncharacteristic restraint this season by not giving inflated scores for dances that are just okay. Well, they threw that restraint aside last night–likely because they didn’t want to be seen as too critical of the contestants’ big emotionally-charged dances.
Random thoughts:
Nancy Kerrigan is doing great. I thought she might have trouble with the Latin dances, but she was shakin’ them hips pretty well!
In my previous post I said Rashad and Emma are my favorites. They still are, but I think they were way overscored last night. It was good, but not *that *good. They sure make an attractive pair, though.
Normani, Heather, and Simone were also very good.
Maks is still out, so Heather danced with Alan again. I rolled my eyes at Heather’s dance–it was like a 5th grader came up with the concept. "And then she gets married, and then they buy a house (cue graphics of house with SOLD sign on it) and then she has a baby (set up prop door with “Baby’s Room” printed on it). So lacking in creativity.
The rest are pretty ‘meh’. Bachelor Nick is probably the best of the rest. Bonner was maybe marginally better than last week, but still pretty lackluster. After all the effort over the last few weeks to set up the Sharna/Bonner showmance, there was nary a peep about it last night. I wonder if the producers are responding to negative feedback about it from fans, or if it was just on hiatus due to the episode’s serious theme.
And the one going home:
Mr. T. No surprise really–he was the last of the ‘old’ stars left, and they rarely stay past the first few weeks. I would have preferred him to outlast Erika or Bonner maybe, but oh well.
Glad Charo went early - her “dumb Latina” act has not aged well. I am really enjoying this season and finally figured out why - no Marc Ballas.
Rooting for the football player. I think the baseball player is going to be the one who sticks around a lot longer than his talent due to his fan base. Odd that he’s the first baseball player on the show.
Yeah, Charo couldn’t go soon enough. I think if they’re going to have folks over a certain age, they should do a whole season of just those folks. It’s really jarring to see them try to compete against 18 year old Olympians. Although Nancy’s about 47, so she’s not young. But compared to Charo and Mr. T, she’s a baby.
I like Bonner. Of course, he’s easy on the eyes, but he tries hard and he’s not too stiff. I’d never heard of him, or Normani, or Erica. I’m ready for her to go. I just don’t like her.

Ever notice that the dancers almost always get higher scores when they dance “contemporary”? I think that style lends itself to overall better performances.
Based solely on their dancing, the eliminations so far have probably been exactly right. But it’s kind of frustrating to see everybody with any personality going home early. Charo may have been annoying, but she sure was entertaining. The Bachelor and the Real Housewife are not at all interesting or fun to watch. When they were each in the bottom two, I was hoping they were the ones to go. No such luck.
OK, that was just stupid. The couple gets a perfect score (all 10s) and then gets voted out. Meanwhile, you have people like that Bachelor guy who basically suck, and they’re still in it. I assume the audience votes just made the difference.
I didn’t understand the guys all being safe. Other than Rashad, I thought all the women were better than all the guys.
John Mace - This was based on last week’s scores and votes, but I agree - any guy but Rashad could’ve gone and I would’ve been satisfied. I thought all the women were better than any of the men.
