Bindi Erwin: pretty good!
Gary Busey: incoherent
Victor Espinosa: rendered me speechless…possibly the worst dancing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been watching the show since season 1
Paula Deen is a hot mess. Her and Busey in the same show is just a bit too much crazy.
My favorites of the night were Bindi Irwin, and Alek Skarlatos (the train hero). Bindi is adorable and both she and Skarlatos appear to have put a lot of work into their performances.
There were some solid first dances by many, including the married couple (I can’t look at her in that sexy outfit and see any remnant of the little girl in Spy Kids, thank goodness).
The Vine kid did fairly well, and he seems like a nice kid. If I was fifteen and spending all day dancing with Emma… well I’d have to spend some serious “me time” after practice every day.
They’re really pimping Nick Carter as the early favorite. Their scores tonight seemed a bit generous. I like Sharna, so I hope they go far.
Wish we could kick off all these in one night: Busey, Deen, Espinosa, the Housewife, and Chaka Khan.
I tried, but I really felt how hard they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to “stars.” Bindi Irwin was fine, but shouldn’t she be in school somewhere? Why is this kid a professional… whatever she is? Same with Vine kid. I’m also not keen on how loading teens into the cast makes the playing field just a little too unlevel.
The train hero and the actors who are a married couple were okay, but nothing to write home about. Gary Busey was an embarrassment to himself, his partner and the show. Chaka Khan might get some weeks just on the size of her fanbase if they’re bothering to watch a show that is giving a platform to Paula Deen. That’s a big if. The presence of Deen is why I won’t be bothering to tune in again.
I saw Bindi Irwin in the Jungle Girl/Safari outfit and knew she was toast - they use the gimmicky costuming to draw voters to poor performers, IMHO. then when Derek tore off the costume and she had the green dress on, I went Wow! I was glad to be wrong. Right now there are too many people for me to keep track of, but Gary Busey was truly unwatchable. What a trainwreck. Chaka Khan won’t go far - poor Keo. he seems like such a nice guy, he deserves a decent partner. Paula Deen is just coming on too strong. For someone who has spent much of the last 10 years on TV, you wouldn’t think she’d be so flaky on camera. I’m tired of the couples schtick. The military guy did well, so he scores weren’t a “thank you for your service” gesture. The jockey needs to go home. I hadn’t thought about the brain injuries they suffer. Since the NFL has been tracking the outcome of brain-injured football players, I wonder if they should look at jockies, too.
I was disappointed that Paula Deen wasn’t the worst dancer. Looked forward to the Gary Busey train wreck and got a little sad when it was revealed how hard he was working. I must be the only one who loved the tiny jockey. So, so rooting for Chaka! Chaka Khan lemme rock ya cuz I feel for you!
Please, PLEASE let that damned silicon filled Housewife be the first to go.
I missed Gary Busey’s training package in my casual viewing. Did they mention that he has a traumatic brain injury? Does Busey even acknowledge that any more?
Well, it’s taken a few weeks but the right ones have been going home so far! Paula might have a big enough fanbase to stick around, but I really hope she’s the next one gone.
Last week’s TV themed dances were… uneven. Most all of the routines were very literal in paying homage to the TV shows.
-Carlos and Whitney’s Golden Girls tribute looked really odd, and not just because of their makeup. The song and choreography just clashed.
-Loved Gary’s dance just because of Anna as Morticia Addams.
-Hayes and Emma’s TMNT dance was fun, if a little sloppy.
-Bindi is a joy to watch and it looks like she works really hard at this.
-Nick and Sharna’s Downton Abbey routine was beautiful. I hadn’t heard the song with lyrics before.
This week’s ‘most memorable year’ dances:
-Alek had the whole train heroics and now the shooting at his community college in Oregon. He danced well, but he doesn’t show much or any emotion as he dances.
-Bindi always has her heart on her sleeve, so it was a given that this would be an emotional week for her. She did great.
-Nick’s ‘Backstreet Boys’ dance, for my taste, was just too over-the-top and seemed too far removed from the spirit of the show when you bring in a huge crowd basically have a concert scene.
-So Alison is pregnant. I don’t think Andy will last much longer, but that would be interesting to see how they deal with the choreography.
My favorites are Bindi and Alexa PenaVega. Mark is doing incredible choreography with Alexa. She’s really good and can handle it.
Bindi is doing really well. She brings such joyous excitement to her dances.
Alek Skarlatos does pretty good. But he’s so downbeat and seems grumpy. I know he had reason to be this week. But he needs to show some enthusiasm if he’s going to get far in the competition.
The biggest issue I’m having these last couple of seasons is what seems to me as uneven judging. I’m no expert, to be sure, but the high scores for low quality is more irritating to me than low scores for good dances.
Switch up week. Really glad Louis van Amstel gets one week with somebody a few decades younger and more talented. He’ll appreciate the change from Paula Dean. Meanwhile, Mark gets to dance with Paula.
Val of course gets Bindi. Derek gets Alexa. the two best dancers.
Bindi is doing really well, as is Val’s partner (can’t remember her name). But no real stand-outs like last time. The train hero guy is pretty good. too, but he’s so dorky it’s hard to cheer for him. They need to get rid of the geriatric set-- none of them is ever going to win.
