When I saw the list of stars, I think I was conflating JR Martinez and A Martinez. I liked David Arquette, bot for the quality of dancing, but because he seems to be a nice guy. Chaz danced like a fat guy, but that chubby Disney kid did well a few seasons ago. Of course, he was young. Ron did nothing for me. The Italian woman didn’t do anything for me and I knew Len would hate the opening bit. I was disappointed to see Mark Ballas.
They were just teasing us. I’d lay you good odds that Nancy Grace wasn’t anywhere near the bottom two. Polarizing figures like her (or Bristol Palin or Tom Delay) are excellent for ratings, so they throw those of us who can’t stand them a bone by making it seem as if they’re just about to be dropped. In the meantime, these figures have a large enough fan base to keep them on regardless of judges’ scores until they get to the last few contestants.
“In jeopardy” doesn’t mean “bottom two.” It means “bottom one” and “whoever we feel like and who will produce the best ratings by seeming to be in danger.”
J.R.—WOW! That was a Lindy instead of a Jive? Whatever, it was freakin’ great! That pro dancer, Mark…he’s more herky-jerky than Carlson. (Is that his name?) I thought dance was supposed to have fluidity, not “strobe light seizures.” I like the show, tho. Enjoyed it last season (my 1st time watching) and still like it a lot. Takes a lot of work and guts to get up there like that.
The jive always makes me grin. It reminds me of watching American Bandstand on Saturdays and seeing all those kids having a great time. It’s a dance real people can do well without years of training.
The quickstep is my second favorite because of the high energy.
WTF was up with Karina choreographing a Lindy? Even I recognized it before Len said anything. Dwts has done the Lindy in previous seasons. Karina is usually a purist. She normally choreographs legal ballroom dances and doesn’t cheat like Mark. But not this time.
Derek tried sneaking some West Coast swing in and got busted. They should have docked more points imho.
All the dances were pretty good. The jive is a dance a lot of amateurs did anyway in the 60’s. Some decent quicksteps too. Except for Chaz. I bet he drops out because of his knees.
This is the most evenly matched group I think I’ve seen on this show.
With that said, Arquette really disappointed; he’s all over the place and I wondering if he can get it together in the next week or two. Carson’s turn seemed a bit of a mess as well.
Chaz should maybe go first, though. ‘Gonna make it after all’? I think not. Too much mass, not enough knee.
Yeah, she matches up really well with Tony and really brought the performance. I think JR still put on the best show by far (yeah, OK, wrong dance, but still), but I liked Ricki Lake’s effort as well, if not quite as energetic.
Obligatory WTF moment: Nancy, during the package, saying “No. No. No” like a petulant five-year-old. That was just weird.
Supposedly the reason they showed those particular non-reaction shots after Nancy’s dance was because she had a wardrobe malfunction. Hence the host’s comment of “On the European version, that would be perfectly fine.”
My information comes from Us online.
As to the rest of the night, I was really rooting for J.R. and Ricki. I can’t see Chaz making it much further though, despite liking him. Also, Elisabetta is horrible and both Rob and Nancy improved.
Anyone else dislike the pants that Hope wore? But other than that, I thought most of the costumes were fabulous.
