Dancing with the Stars Fall 2011

This is probably the best group they’ve assembled to date, in the sense that no one is absolute dead weight. No Master P, Kenny Mayne, Tucker Carlson, Buzz Aldrin – everybody can actually dance a little, which is a welcome relief.

Week 2 -

Hope/Maks - she has an amazing body and the costume department has no idea what to do with it. Her outfit was high on the list of “Most unflattering DWTS costumes.” To her dancing - ton of energy, but every time she turns or spins, I worry that she’s going to crash into something. She also lost count a few times.

Kristin/Mark - At first, I thought Mark wasn’t as bad as he was last week, but then he threw in the acrobatics. She seems adequate.

David/Kym - when he was connected to Kym, he was kind of ok. When he was out on his own, he fell apart. But he seems to be trying, which is good.

Elisabetta/Val - not bad in hold, but she also falls apart when she’s moving and Val isn’t right there next to her. I think either she or Chaz is gone this week.

Rob/Cheryl - he was better this week. Definitely better than his sister.

Carson/Anna - A lot of bad dancers get clunky and stiff and heavy and it looks like they’re trying so hard to control everything because they’re so worried about it. And Carson does the opposite. Much better than last week and still entertaining and I want to see him improve. I’d also like to see him get a slow dance just to see if maybe he could channel the energy better.

Ricki/Derek - copying Mark’s choreographic style is a bad thing.

Chaz/Lacey - Chaz needs to go. Knees should not make that sound.

Chynna/Tony - Pretty much what the judges said, it felt like it should have had more energy at times. But it was still a great job.

Nancy/Tristan - I really like him. And she is surprisingly ok.

JR/Karina - wow. Yes, it was a Lindy and yes, it had a lift, but that was just great and fun to watch.

It’s rare I vote for reality shows, but I split votes between David Arquette and Carson because even though their performances weren’t that great I like them and think they have potential.

And yeah, if Chaz isn’t in good enough shape then maybe it’s time to go.

Ah. That explains Tom’s remark, which didn’t make sense to me, but he’s always thinking so fast I sometimes don’t get one of his jokes. Still, though, you’d think they’d be able to find some shot that … well, no, I guess if everyone else had dropped jaws and WTF expressions, that wouldn’t be better.

I’m pretty certain that Nancy Grace’s boob popped out of her outfit. I’m also pretty certain that Hope’s butt crack was pixelated out during her dance. She didn’t have any hips to hold up those pants.

Okay, before I critique the dancing, I want to make a PSA that it’s time for Hollywood to ditch the Botox. Listen up, people! It’s OKAY to age. Botox doesn’t make you look younger, it just makes you look weird. I’m looking at you, Kym, Courtney, Bruce Jenner, and Chynna Phillips. Embrace your wrinkles!

I’m glad I got that off my chest.

I think JR’s dance was the best of the night. He has a joie de vivre that I really love. And I agree with the other poster that it’s bad when a total lay person can recognize that it was a Lindy Hop. Karina really messed up.

And what’s up the scoring? I mean, seriously? Giving Chaz all 6’s and then giving JR 7’s?! Even if you take a point away (which isn’t really fair because it’s not the contestants’ fault that their pro messed up) for doing the Lindy instead of the Jive, he was at least 2 or 3 points better than Chaz.

David Arquette is charming and earnest, but he has no feel for the music. Ditto with Elisabetta.

Chaz should withdraw from the competition if he can’t do the dance justice.

Nancy Grace continues to impress me with her musicality. It’s difficult to separate myself from her professional persona, which I find grating, but I think her appearance on the show has done wonders to repair her image as a shrill harpy. Oh, and I’ll bet she’s already lost 5 or 10 pounds from the beginning.

Kardashian did okay, but I was depressed to hear him admit that he’s self-conscious about his body. Seriously, dude, you’re a little chunky but you look fine! I supposed self-esteem issues are inevitable when your father is so focused on his appearance that he dyes his hair and surgically alters his face.

Chynna did fine. She has a beautiful figure.

Carson was entertaining and his vulnerability is endearing. Too bad he has zero coordination or musicality.

Hope is merely okay. She’s got a killer body, and I so enjoyed watching her during the World Cup, but oh my, she lacks rhythm.

Ricki - She did great. Derek’s choreography was a little over the top, but I like the energy level. I’m actually kind of surprised that she didn’t get injured doing some of those moves.

Kristin - Did fine. Still not sure who she is, but she’s a lovely woman.

Elisabetta is completely forgettable. And Val needs to ditch those 80’s oversized Superman glasses.

Oh, and my worse scores of the night, once again, go to…Brooke. She looked horrific last night. Her makeup and hair were way too severe, and she is the worst interviewer EVER. Seriously, DWTS, I heard that Regis will be out of work soon. Can you see if he’s available?

I didn’t care for the Maks/Hope dance too much. And I really hated the costumes. I could hardly take my eyes off of Maks. I was surprised that clothes actually existed that could detract from his good looks.

I Think JR was the best of the night. I like him quite a bit, but every once in a while, something in his eyes bugs me just a smidge. I can’t put my finger on what it is and I hope it goes away because I really want to like him more. That probably sounds weird.

Bruce Jenner looks so awful. Seriously, stop it people. This is not a good look.

Chaz should probably be the one to go. Too bad, I was hoping he’d do better.

No one should ever dress as Marilyn Monroe on this show again - I don’t care how much they paid for the wig. No one will ever live up to Pamela Anderson’s evocation of the role, and they need not bother to try.

I hope Chaz drops out tonight. It isn’t worth risking permanent injury for a tv show. I hurt just watching him try to dance.

I feel bad for David. He’s trying so hard and just doesn’t have the musicality for dance. It’s even worse because he thinks he’s a great dancer. Kym had to give him a reality check during rehearsal. A bit of tough love.

One has to wonder: why would anyone with a bad knee sign up for a dance competition?

Really. The great thing is to make it look effortless. Chaz made it look painful. I think it’s only going to get worse with the Latin dances so he should feel great relief at being voted off now.

That said, I wouldn’t mind if Elizabetta went tonight. She’s kind of got no personality at all.

Louis is blogging & reviewing the dances for GMA. A lot of times the pros blog reviews are too nice and careful not to hurt anyones feelings. Louis is actually giving some real criticism here. Not harsh criticism but at least he’s giving an opinion.

According to whatever fluff ET type show I had on earlier today, those were stock shots (static fill), not even of the current audience.

Used because of her evil nipple.
.

I’m still a little bummed I can’t vote for world peace.

[Miss Congeniality] I really do want world peace! [/MC]

Wow, we get another week of a one legged, 250lb man trying to hobble around and dance. After last night I can’t believe anyone was cruel enough to vote for Chaz. The dude is risking a wheelchair and maybe a heart attack on live tv. Human legs aren’t meant to twist and jive with that kind of weight. Strap 120 lbs of rocks on Derek or Maks and see well they dance.

To bad about Elizabetta. She was a lot better this week and still got canned.

Well, it is a popularity contest, and she came across as pretty unlikeable in the practice vids, at least to me.

She was canon fodder from the very beginning. Her display of pouty face and whining this week didn’t help.

I’m relieved Carson made it through with no problems. I think Carson and Nancy have the best chance of improving if they stay on long enough.

I feel like a snickering seven-year-old saying this but, what was going on with Rob’s pants? Uh, it was so HIGH.
Rikki’s doing a great job and I really like J.R.

Is the new dance floor smaller?

I thought I was imagining that until we saw the clone of the old floor in the “Cribs” segment.

We’re getting a theme week much like last season. We’ll get to see passionate Rumbas danced in honor of dead relatives, horrific war injuries and child birth. Sounds a bit sick & twisted doesn’t it? We survived it last season and I guess we’ll get through it this season.

I’m not sure why TPTB insist on ruining the Rumba in this way. I will try my best to ignore the passionate story of someone’s dead grandmother and focus on the dance. It’s supposed to be a passionate dance of love. Yeah, dead grandma sure spells that out doesn’t it?

I’m excited about Carson’s Tango. I think that’s a dance he can do really well. I’ve seen pics of him with his hair slicked back and he looks a bit Latin. Carson seems to have a knack for characters and I bet he nails the passionate Latin.

Next Week’s Dances based on interviews after the results show.
Rumba: Ricki Lake/Derek, David Arquette/Kym, Chynna Phillips/Tony, Chaz Bono/Lacey
Tango: Carson Kressley/Anna,
Foxtrot: Rob Kardashian/Cheryl
Samba: Kristin Cavallari/Mark

Two more dances I found. Making five Rumbas in one night.

Rumba: J.R. Martinez/Karina
Viennese Waltz: Nancy Grace/Tristan

Hope/Maks haven’t twittered their dance.
