Here you go, twicks.
That is excellent. He is such a hoot! Thanks.
And, oh, BTW, I’m okay with Maurice going home – and hope Cody is next. I want Lance and Warren in the final three with Brooke.
I only watched the last 3 minutes of last night (the rest is on DVR), so I haven’t seen the performance yet. But Brad Paisley is funny. If you can find the videos for “Online” or “I’m gonna miss her” (which features former Dancing with the Stars star Jerry Springer), they’re worth watching.
This week, I thought that I must be channeling an 65 year old man. I pretty much agreed with Len. I didn’t like the dances he didn’t like and felt “meh” about the dances he also felt “meh” about. If I bother to vote (and barring a major meltdown) next week, it’ll probably be for Cody & Warren. I think Brooke is safe, and I don’t want L&L in the finals.
In other news, Mark Cuban (season 4, I think) was indicted today on some kind of financial scam civil charges - hardly surprising, as he’s a spanking new billionaire.
Certainly were some surprises tonight. If you’ll recall, early in this thread I said that I would root for Lance through the final because he reminded me of Joey Lawrence, versus Warren Sapp as Emmit Smith and Brooke Burke as Mario Lopez. (None of them is quite as skilled as his/her Season 3 analog). I though it was interesting, because Joey wore a sailor suit and danced a quick-step in the semi-final in season three (which was at that time three people, pared down to two for the final), and dedicated his dance to his WWII grandfather. Tonight in the semi-finals, Lance wore a sailor suit and danced a jitterbug, dedicated to his WWII grandfather. Both Joey and Lance scored 29s with the judges for those dances.
Anyway, I thought it was great to see Lance finally strut his stuff tonight. It was obvious (to me, at least) that the talent was there all along, although Lacey has not been a good partner for him. But then, she would have been even worse with almost anyone else. Certainly Cody would have been out almost immediately with Lacey, while Julianne has been able to nurse him along on her ability and his gangly energy and tweeny fan base. And I’ve been happy to see Kym finally get a contestant worthy of her, as I’ve felt that as Aussie champion, she probably had great ability.
How the hell is Brooke so damn muscular? For some reason tonight, during the puff pieces prior to the actual dancing, I noticed that she’s built like a really attractive tank. She has several kids and a career - how the heck does she have the time? For her kind of (really sleek, feminine) bulk, I think she must do weight work. But it’s remarkable how good a dancer she is, even though she was not up to par tonight.
Anyway, presumably Cody’s going down tomorrow. Please someone post it here when it happens, as I almost certainly will not catch it on TV. Thanks.
It was nice to see Lance dance so well last night. He’s earned his spot in the final three – as has Brooke, on mad dance skilz, and Warren, on his exuberant personality. I’m hoping Cody is going home tonight – though will probably be watching NCIS/The Mentalist and won’t click over till 9:59 to see the results.
I forgot to watch the booting, but it was, in fact, Cody who was booted, leaving us with the final three that I predicted two weeks ago (ooh, how amazingly prescient of me … :D)
Go Brooke! I love seeing a woman win – as we’ve discussed before, it’s so much harder for women amateurs, since so much more slack in terms of presentation can be picked up by a woman pro than an man pro.
Ordinarily I don’t care for the free style–I don’t give a shit about lifts and such. But Brooke’s free style almost converted me. That was way cool.
I loved Brooke and Derek’s freestyle. They absolutely deserve to win after dominating all season. Warren and Kym’s was very nice as well – they’re fun to watch, despite the fact that Warren still isn’t much of a dancer – esp. compared to Emmitt, the previous star of the jock persuasion with whom he is most often compared. Lacey showed her fundamental misunderstanding of the vibe of the show yet again by going for hiphop.
I also liked the group dance – it was fun to see the different pros’ styles and the different intra-couple dynamics so clearly contrasted within a single number.
This season hasn’t gotten the rabid following previous seasons have, but I’ve found it very watchable, once they got rid of Cloris (and, please god, add a “maximum age” rule to the screening criteria going forward).
Julianne says she won’t be back next (spring) season, though she doesn’t rule out a return in the future. I’m hoping they won’t ask Lacey back – she doesn’t have the right attitude to be a good pro on this particular show.
Awww, I didn’t know Julianne won’t be back. She and Derek are my favorites,
Yeah, looks like Brooke and Derek for the win. That freestyle was off the hook. While I’ve actually come to like Lance and Lacey (I thought they had pretty good chemistry), their freestyle number looked rather ordinary by comparison.
As entertaining as Warren Sapp has been, he’s not all that great a dancer. I’ll be fairly annoyed if he wins.
I liked Derek & Brooke’s freestyle and really disliked Warren & Kym’s and Lance & Lacey’s.
To me, Warren & Kym showed the same issue they’ve had the whole time, which is that Kym dances around Warren – it’s only a 2 minute dance, yet he doesn’t move his feet for the first time until the 15 second mark. That’s an 8th of the dance where he’s just standing still.
Lacey, who I have liked up to this point, apparently thinks she’s still on So You Think You Can Dance. It was out of place and strange.
The results are in.
Woo hoo! Yay Brooke and Derek! Well done – completely deserved.
Of course I’m happy Brooke won. She absolutely deserved it, no doubt about it. But, even though I know that it’s really only the winner who matters, I can’t help being a little disappointed that Lance got pushed out of second place. In a dance contest, I really feel that he’s the better dancer. I guess I’m one of the few people who aren’t seduced by Warren’s patented “wink and a grin.”
Oh well, Brooke won, and that’s what really counts, so yay!
Yeah, I agree, Lance should have been second.
This was a duplicate of Season 3, so of course Lance (Joey) was going to finish 3rd. The miracle is that the audience has grown sufficiently sophisticated that the best actual dancer, Brooke (Mario), won this time. Of course Emmit was a better dancer than Warren was, but then I think all three Season 3 dancers were better than these three. Yes, I know Brooke is very good, but think back to just how great Mario was.
I’m still not sure whether Len hated Lacey or Lance or the two together, but he sure hated at least one of them, and it seemed to color everything they did for him. I think that in turn influenced the other judges, too; since he’s really the only expert on the panel, his opinions tend to steer the others’ judgments. While I didn’t care for Lacey, and in fact dropped an email to abc suggesting they lose her as a pro in future seasons, I didn’t think it was fair to Lance’s dancing skills, which were obviously second only to Brooke’s and in some cases equal or superior. He shouldn’t have had to really be fighting it out with Cody and Maurice; he was a far better dancer than either of them.
And as for Warren? All charm and no dance. I don’t care how liberated or feminist we women get; in this society, we’re still suckers for a really big, dominant guy. At least on the dance floor. Merciful heavens, Carrie Ann was practically swooning every time Warren danced, and she was the same back in Season 3 with Emmit. There’s something a lot of us find intrinsically attractive about the idea of a guy who can lift us with one hand and toss us around like a basketball. Kym is awfully good, though. She certainly knows how to choreograph effectively.
As for Brooke, the Palin comparison remained with me. As much as I admired her dancing, I could never like the woman; her perfection was just too complete, and thus seemed as if it must be artificial. Is anyone’s body really that good without having surgery, especially so soon after having a baby (not that you’d have surgery for that part)? Can anyone who hasn’t been a pro athelete or dancer learn to dance that well that quickly? Is there anything whatsoever there except beauty, grace and athleticism? With this kind of show, it’s impossible to tell; access is even more limited than it was to the real Sarah Palin, and in Brooke’s case no one cares enough to make her worth investigating. It’s nice that Derek got a chance to win; he seems a nice kid, and he’s obviously an extremely skilled dancer. The Hough parents must be very proud of their children, and it would seem deservedly so. A little overly blond and wholesome for my ideal (then again I’m not Mormon - or any other kind of religion), but still great kids.
So adequate season, but nothing really exciting. Worth watching, but not remembering.
While I didn’t particularly care for that routine, there has been a lot of hiphop in the finals of DwtS, including some of the winners (Apolo Ohno, at least, and probably some others I don’t remember). I can’t fault Lacey for going for it, especially with the celeb she has.
I really disliked Brooke & Derek’s freestyle. I liked that it wasn’t hip-hop (I don’t tend to like the hip hop freestyles). But it seemed to be gratuitously jiggly. Or maybe just the cameraman’s focus - but it just didn’t really impress me. Neither did the other two, though. Warren & Kym’s seemed really short. And Lance & Lacey was not my taste at all, and she was still dancing around him for unexplained reasons. (When Kym danced around Warren, it was obviously to cover for him. When Lacey danced around Lance, it looked like she wanted to show herself off.)
This time, I wasn’t really rooting for anyone.
As a trial attorney would say – asked and answered.
My saying Brooke should win was about the fact that her dancing was at such a high level, and I like Derek, and I see no reason to dislike Brooke, who seems like a total nonentity. IOW – not actually “rooting” for her, the way I rooted for Drew Lachey. Emmitt Smith, or Laila Ali.
