Dancing with the Stars, Season 7 (Fall 2008)

Susan Lucci is out. Thank god.

(I had been worried for Cody, who I think has been consistently underscored, but I figured he would probably be OK when they mentioned three times in the first 15 minutes that he had the lowest judges’ score.)

I think Cody may go next though – him or Maurice. I’m expecting a final three of Brooke, Warren, and Lance – and I’m having a hard time coming up with a scenario where Brooke doesn’t win, barring injury.

Which is a hell of a bar, this season. Yikes.

Hey, I had a hard time coming up with a scenario in which Mario Lopez or Joey Lawrence didn’t win. But they didn’t.

I’m glad Susan went down. Hard enough on her that she’s 62, but then to be doing this while doing her TV show? Too much. This week it really showed in the team dance, where her mistakes were starkly in contrast to the other dancers’. I imagine part of her is really relieved. She made it to a respectable level and has nothing about which to be ashamed.

I hope Maurice is next. His dancing doesn’t really do it for me, even when he is getting decent scores. Cody, on the other had, I think is a lot of fun and I love watching him dance. Plus, isn’t he the only other person besides Brooke to get 10s?

It will definitely be Warren and Brooke for the final two. (although, honestly, Warren is not my favorite, I think this is the way it will go down.) The third person, I’d like to hope will be Lance, but the judges (especially Len) sometimes really seem to have it in for him. I enjoy their dancing, but I think Lance would have a better chance without Lacey as his partner. If not Lance, then it should be Cody, but I really want Maurice out.

Wisp, except for the Cody 10s, which I honestly have no idea (can’t remember either way), I agree with your entire post, start to finish, except that I don’t find Code particularly entertaining, largely because I find him too juvenile. The fact that he IS juvenile doesn’t excuse him.

Cody’s personality is repellant, but I like his extension and he’s really worked hard and improved. I’d like to see him in the final three.

I was so sad when I found out that Julianne wasn’t going to be teaching Cody, and that they gave him Edyta! Her choreography just doesn’t work for him at all. I’m hoping that even if Julianne isn’t up to dancing with him this week, she’ll do the choreography for their routine.

What was the song used for Team Paso Doble? (The refrain featured the phrase “get your rocks off” prominently, if that helps). Catchy tune.

“Rocks,” by Primal Scream. Wikipedia has all the music listed in its entry for season 7. It was a catchy tune - too bad they had to dance Paso to it, though, since it’s definitely a chacha.

After perusing the wonderful Wiki entry on this show – god, I love the internet. A place where people with an obsessive need to know useless things can meet up with people with too much time on their hands.

And the Dope is a miniature version of the internet, only you can ask specific questions and probably get answers. It’s a wonderful thing.

hmm, the commercials for next week still show Cody standing next to Edyta. I wonder if this means Julianne won’t be back yet after all.
If so, I think this will definitely put Cody at a disadvantage.

I always thought a single week (or two, taking it ep to ep) was a bit optimistic for extreme athletic activity following pretty serious abdominal surgery. I know she’s young, but if she needed surgery so badly that it couldn’t wait until the end of the season, they weren’t kidding around. I seriously doubt she’ll be back for several more weeks in any serious way - maybe choreographing (or helping Edyta do so), but I suspect her doctors have told her to lay low on the actual dancing for a little longer. Personally, I’d rather have Julianne survive and not have to be rushed back to the hospital with complications than improve Cody’s chances of doing well, and when it’s put in those bald terms, I’m sure you would too. Little as in general I’m all that fond of perfect, cornfed, blonde Mormon self-proclaimed virgins whom you just know must vote Republican as certainly as the sun rises in the east, Julianne is the only dancer of the bunch who usually manages to render her costumes somehow tasteful (speaking well for her mom’s taste and training, I assume), and obviously she’s a very talented dancer, trainer, and choreographer. The contrast between her and Laci, for example, is stark, even though Laci may be as good a dancer (I have no idea - I doubt it, but am not qualified to judge).

Lacey is a very good dancer in her specialty, which is not ballroom but west coast swing. She’s probably as good at that as Julianne is at the latin dances, which are her specialty. But Julianne is better at the standard dances than Lacey is by quite a bit.

Thank you for clarifying, ENugent.

Well, of course  I didn’t mean to imply otherwise.

I agree that I was surprised when she said was planning on coming back so quickly.

Phew, I’m glad Cody made it through.

Country music is very strange. “I’d like to check you for ticks”?!? Benji and Lacey looked great, though. Nice to see Lacey in her element for a change.

Damn, Benji was on? I love Benji.

So who went home?

Twicks - Maurice went home. He and Cody were the last two standing. I have to admit I’m glad Cody made it through, although I know he has no chance of winning (and shouldn’t win even if he has the fan base).

I can’t say I *like *country music, but they come up with the best lyrics.
