I hope America cuts Jerry loose before he injures himself.
I thought that Joey’s wife didn’t look to pleased. Can’t say I’d be too pleased to have my husband go off to dance with Edyta every day. She’s seriously sexy even though her choice of outfits bug the hell out of me.
I thought Mario did great.
I am amazed at how generous the judges are to Vivica A. Fox. I thought her passe doble was okay at best. And I like Bon Jovi as much as the next person, but it was sure a crappy song to dance to.
Didn’t see Willa’s dance except as a reprisal. Thought she did okay.
Wow. That was by far the most entertaining ep of the season. This thing has been blown wide open. I must confess I haven’t the slightest idear who might get the chop this week.
The rumbas, to my untrained eye, were all fabulous. I was especially impressed with the way Mario managed to contain himself tonight; that made his dance really effective. Was also highly impressed by that move Monique did at the end of her routine; don’t recall ever seeing anything quite like it.
The Sambas, well…didn’t care at all for Joey’s bit; least interesting of the night. Sarah was much better than last week, and her face and hairdo looked great, but she still moves like she’s wading through custard and likely always will. Until now I haven’t been nearly as impressed with Emmitt as most everyone else has, but tonight there’s no denying he nailed it.
Wacky fashion statements of the night: Willa’s racoon eyes, Jerry’s puffy shirt, and Kym’s 1936 Rockettes outfit (hey, it fit the dance though, so what the hey).
They really were playing up the hookup angle with the couples tonight, weren’t they? In any event, thanks, ABC, for showing all the hot babes in bikini tops, and I’m sure all the womenfolk are equally grateful for the chance they got to see a barechested Jerry in swim trunks and bling .
Tonight was fun…
but - the judges need to recalibrate - giving everyone 8s and 9s makes the judges’ score meaningless. Or let them give 10ths of a point or something… this isn’t working. Next week, unless someone falls on an audience member and breaks something everyone’s going to get a 9.
Rumbas were all good. Monique seemed to be the weakest - but not by much. (Perhaps that’s just because I wanted to see them samba).
Sambas… Sara was better, but still not good. Jerry had better hip action, and I have no clue what he did, but it was fun as anything. And he was actually dancing for parts of it, and I liked it. Kym did an excellent job with that choreography - it was great for him. (As opposed to Edyta who botched Joey’s choreography. She was dancing around and he isn’t so bad that she needs to do that). Loved Emmett, he was just great.
I don’t know, but the samba/rhumba performances really didn’t really impress me. No one seemed especially sexy or loose enough for the party/carnival expression called for. I just kept remembering the blonde wrestler from last season (can’t remember her name) and even Lisa really setting the stage on fire. Last night it just looked like they all were concentrating so much on the steps and routine that personalities and emotions were left in the wings.
Is there some reason that the whole season is on one thread instead of each week having its own?
Because we’re only getting 10 or 20 posts a week, it’s not really worth starting a new thread each time. I will start doing so if people demaind it, but there’s only a half dozen of us or so commenting each week. We’re no American Idol clique.
Agree that Jerry Springer was way more fun than I expected. He’s really blossoming in his role of “plucky old guy.”
I agree that Sara is by far the weakest. She just doesn’t have any elegance about her.
Jerry is way out of his league and is working the George Hamilton angle where he glides by on charisma. He does try, though, and his self-deprecating sense of humor helps.
Really enjoyed Monique’s dance. I thought she was very sexy.
I really, really enjoyed Mack and Willa’s dance. They do have a lot of chemistry and I am appalled that I’m sucked in by his sexual aura only because I get the feeling that he practices it in the mirror.
I think Edyta and Joey did great, though I agree that Joey should have had more to do. And I’m puzzled by Len’s comment that Mario is the opposite of Joey. What does that mean?
Emmitt actually has rhythm, which showed last night. I was really surprised that Jerry Rice utterly lacked rhythm last season. So much for stereotypes. He also had a great time out there and the reaction of his friend from the Best Damn Sports Show was classic.
I can’t put my finger on Mario. He wears that goofy constipated expression on his face during judging and I can’t tell if he’s really smug or afraid or pissed. In any event, he has the most natural talent. His partner seems quite infatuated with him.
I agree that giving 8’s and 9’s dilutes the judge’s scores. I think they should do ordinals, like they do in figure skating. If four people are tied, they will give them the mathematical score (e.g. 5.2) but then they’ll also rank them 1st through 4th. My ordinals would be:
Don’t count us lurkers out! I don’t have time to post, but I’ve been following the show, at least on Tuesday nights.
I’m starting to like Willa and I agree that Sara’s the weakest. Mario may be a good dancer, but so help me, he still gets on my nerves. I can’t believe he’s 33. I would have guessed 23 if not 20. And, as I typed this, a coworker who also watches the show just told me who got kicked off (I couldn’t watch the results show).
So much for getting to like Willa. She was finally starting to show some class and understand what some of it’s all about. On the other hand, as my coworker pointed out, Sara has the bigger fan base.
The problem the judges face is, if they say anything critical or give anything less than an 8 is the audience boos them. If I were on the show, I’d want to know what I’m doing wrong and what I need to work on. I’m still taking lessons in ballroom dance and there are things it takes a long while to get the hang of and things a non-professional dancer simply isn’t going to be aware of. If I’im going to be judged and I know I need to work on stuff, I’d much rather learn what it is than just hear compliments. Someone needs to tell the audience that a critique is not an insult.
So much for the Thursday morning rant. Twickster, thanks for starting and running this thread. I may not post much, but I follow it avidly!
A half hour is simply not enough time to vote! Has anyone else tried to call. . . and gotten through??? I just got busy signals. Very frustrating! So I stopped trying.
And Willa should never have gone home last night! I thought it would be Joey even thought Sarah SHOULD have gone long ago!!!
People, you can vote online. And I do. I voted three times for Willa (plus twice for Monique and twice for Emmitt) this week.
Number of women vs. men being voted off – not sure that’s about the female vote – since in terms of eye candy, the female stars’ partners are, in general, hotter than the male stars.
Sounds like we were on the same page, twickster - I voted three times each for Willa and Monique, plus one for Joey because I thought he was underscored.
I’m sad to see Willa go, since she was really improving from week to week.
