I thought he deliberately threw it. That wasn’t merely bad, that was intentionally awful. I think he’s self aware enough to know that he doesn’t belong in the final three or four and is trying to go home.
I think Louis made a huge mistake in the choreography last night, though Monique did well with what he gave her. Still better than Edyta, who just isn’t good at choreography at all (even it is unfair that Joey got saddled with George Michael two weeks in a row). Liked Emmitt. But overall, last night wasn’t as much fun as previous weeks have been.
The body language expert was actually quite interesting. Jerry trying to put his hand in his pocket; Emmitt putting his hands on his hips. Joey shifting during judges’ comments, but standing still when the vote is announced.
Jerry and Joey were in the bottom two and the next to go was …no one. Due to Sara Evans dropping out last week (and apparently Willa Ford’s unwillingness to come back…her perrogative) the producers decided not to cut anyone this week. However the judges and viewers votes will be rolled over to next week, so in essence the dancers will be judged on a total of three dances (four if you count the freestyle disco which we Carnages did not).
Okay – we’ll now proceed to a discussion of the events in Max’s spoiler box, unboxed – if you haven’t watched last night’s show yet, stop reading.
I think this was actually quite a good decision – it keeps things running the right number of weeks but doesn’t in anyway subvert the premise of the competition, as bringing Willa (or anyone else) back would have. Plus, by combining the scores for the two weeks, it adds rather an interesting strategic twist – Joey needs to get it together, and his fans (if any) need to mobilize.
I am, however, thinking very seriously of getting a T-shirt made:
I KNEW it was going to be a non-elimination episode from the very beginning when Tom and Samantha were talking about a surprise ending, etc. They were very upbeat and did not mention a “shocking” elimination, etc.
But I do feel bad for Jerry Springer who is so obvious in his desire to get the heck outta Dodge!
Mario and Karina’s foxtrot was just delightful. All in all some great freakin’ dancing in the ballroom round. (Am I alone in finding it odd that a star’s performance would be praised with the expression “he nailed it!” ?)
I hope you don’t mind me butting in after only watching a small snippet of tonight’s show and nothing else. With a question, no less.
Which ‘star’ was it who had the nerve to dance to The Reflex on Latin night?
Also and as an afterthought-- Wow, Emit Smith is HOT! Whoda thunk it?
Lessee, that was, er, Monique and Louie, I think. It’s not their choice. The couples are assigned both the dance styles and music at the beginning of each week’s practice sessions.
Anyway, the bizarre music choices are a running joke, and part of the charm, of this series. Maybe you missed Harry Hamlin having to attempt a quickstep to Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life” earlier in the season.
Oh, yeah. That mambo was in fact the closest thing to a 10 I’ve seen on this year’s series.
Monique is one of the Disney channel’s stars. Sort of this generation of mouseketeers. She was in “High School Musical” and seems to be on many of their sit coms as a back-up player. It is astounding the stuff you learn with a 13 year old in the house.
“High School Musical”
I’ve never seen her before either. But apparently if you are a Disney Channel aged kid or have Disney Channel aged kids, you’ve not only seen it, you’ve seen it over and over again, and bought the soundtrack. It has insane sales numbers for a made-for-tv movie, especially a made-for-tv movie on a cable channel.
You can’t do the paso doble to “The Reflex.” That’s just not fair.
First, if you give Jerry 8s, then everyone else has to get 9s and 10s, and there’s no reason for judges at all.
Even saying that, I liked him tonight - even though I want him to go home. He does very well for casual, dinner and a dance dancing. This is supposed to be a higher level than that though.
Tonight, weirdly, they showed closed captioning over the latin dances (they usually turn it off during the dance). They translated Emmitt & Cheryl’s song. Sometimes, it’s good when you don’t understand what the singers are singing.
Other than that, nothing new to say. Same people are still good dancers, same are still good choreographers, same still aren’t.
The overall level of the remaining dancers (except for maybe Jerry) I feel is much better than last year. I do agree however that the judges’ scores are way out of line. After all the 10’s awarded, to give Mario’s jive only a 9 seems unfair. Are they just trying to level the playing field to give the others a fighting chance? I thought his jive was energetic, entertaining and full of personality. The speed and synchronization were also excellent.
You can tell that Joey really wants to win, he puts so much effort in each dance, and he is definitely improving each week.
But I must say that Emmitt is absolutely astonishing. Who would think that someone so big could be that light on his feet? After seeing the other professional athletes from previous seasons, I must say that Emmitt’s perforrmances are a pleasant surprise.
Monique is improving as well. Her first dance was especially nice. I didn’t feel that the second one was all that good though. The judges scores were way out of line.
Jerry will probably be going home this week which I’m sure will be a welcome outcome to Jerry.
Glad to hear someone else saying this. On competition nights, I write down my own score, then compare it to the judges’. Most times they’re close, but last night I found myself consistently rating the dances at least one number below the judges’ average. The only one we all seemed to agree on was Emmitt’s mambo. The two biggest ringers, Mario and Joey, both made some technical mistakes; not to mention Joey and Edyta’s outfits were once again highly pe-koolyer.
Monique’s effort on the Paso Doble was a bit of a mess. By the time Louie dropped her, with an audible clunk, to the floor, poor girl looked like she’d been through a cycle in a tumble dryer.
And, America, please please please let Jerry go home. He’s done everything he can possibly do, except maybe have a stroke on stage.
