I think Marie has a much more substantial built-in fan base than Mark does.
I saw on another blog that Marie has asthma, had been suffering from the air quality due to the fires, and didn’t have her inhaler yesterday. (I didn’t see the show yet, though.)
I wonder if Marie Osmond is going throught menopause (Man, that makes me feel old). I know I had trouble with dizzy and fainting spells when I had it.
I thought that maybe** Marie’s ** dress had a built in girdle that was making it hard for her to breathe. It was a really awful dress. The dance was…meh.
Jane is just so elegant. She needs to connect with her inner stripper.
**Sabrina ** did outstanding. Though I think her hair is an unnatural shade, I think she’s cute as a button.
I wasn’t as wowed by Mel B as the judges were. And I know that Maks is a professional dancer and all, but I hate, hate, hate how some of his moves are so hippy that it has an effete quality about it. Once again, I hate myself for wanting to attack him because he’s so enamored of himself already. But he truly is a fabulous looking man.
I thought Helio did okay. And Julianne is just as cute as button while she’s ordering him around.
Jenny and Mark are both very earnest but they just don’t seem to be able to let go enough to be good dancers. Mark doesn’t feel the music and I’m not sure that can be taught. Jenny is just too nervous.
**Cameron ** is continuing to surprise me because I thought he was pretty bad in the first few rounds. It was hysterical that Len complained about Edyta’s one legged turns because I have the same complaint. And, please, can she wear something normal for a change? Those drapey things are just too much. Or rather too little.
I find that to be true of a lot of the male dancers. I don’t have the lexicon to describe it, but there are some hip movements that the guys do that just really look very feminine, but the dancers seem to just love doing them.
And when she’s not ordering him around. I thought he did just okay too. Much of it seemed to be Julianne dancing around him, while he did some of the same moves from the last few weeks. She’s usually really sharp with the choreography, but that one was not impressive. As much as I’d hate to see her go, they are definitely not at the top of the heap (although they certainly deserve to stay longer than Mark. I think he’s buying votes. Thousands upon thousands of votes.)
I’m surprised by all the love from the judges for Jenny, especially from Len. She’s really not good. She was way off much of the time last night, including a fairly substantial move where she seemed to do an extra turn and ended up out in the middle of nowhere. Maybe Len just doesn’t want to see that lemon-sucking expression on her face ever again.
Tonight’s results show has aired on the East coast.
Yay! and with Mark’s departure we’ve gotten rid of the folks who totally can’t dance.
Well, whoever it was who wanted to see Jane do something fast, you’ve had your wish. Or maybe you haven’t – that was a pretty staid jive. God bless you for lasting as long as you did, Jane, but this is a young person’s game. I’m predicting she’ll be gone tonight.
But damn – only two men left? This is the women’s season!
So, tell me more about last night’s episode, please. I was dancing with the schlubs rather than watching Dancing With the Stars and I like spoilers for this show. Were Max and Mel really that good? Yes, I’ll watch the tape later.
I thought they gave Jane very staid music for a jive. I think she could’ve done better with a bouncy WWII beat and better outfit. She sure has great legs for an old lady, though. I heard on the radio today that Tony Dovolani screamed at Carrie Ann last week and told her she had no business being a judge because she’d never been a ballroom dancer and gave her a book of rules. I don’t know how true that is. I think Sabrina and Mel are the two to beat, but Cameron is coming on very strong. Jenny and Helio are solid middle of the packers, but that won’t take them too much farther. Marie’s days are numbered, as well. I’d say that it’s a young person’s game, but Joh O’Hurley from first season and George Hamilton did fairly well and he was born in 1939.
I thought it was interesting when Jennie garth said that Sabrina only has to be shown the moves once and she’s got them. Except for a few dancers, it seems that this season they started off okay and have just stayed…okay.

I disagree about Cameron. He’s eye candy, all right, but he’s pretty clumsy. Watch his free arm when he dances. It’s got no life at all.
I don’t understand how everyone else seems to be slimming down while Sabrina the Chipmunk seems to be bloating up week after week. She really is a pudge!
I think either Jane or Marie will go home tonight. And I wish Jenny would perk up; I’m really tired of the sour face of hers.
I thought the group dance was a hoot!!! And I didn’t like Mel’s costume last night. It looked like a bedsheet pinned to a rhinestone bikini. Ick!
annieclaus - I thought Mel looked like she borrowed one of Edyta’s costumes. The reson I say Cameron is improving is that he’s actually dancing now, rather than just moving his feet to the numbered steps. He seems to be able to use his hips and the lower half of his body, which some guys just don’t get. Sabrina is still a pudge. I think she’ll always have a compact stocky body - it’s just the way she’s built. She’s probably pretty muscular.

That was me. And the jive was elegant, which is not what you want in a jive. Marie did a better job with her Paso - but it still had problems.
This was my favorite dance of Sabrina’s (I totally disagreed with the judges). I still don’t like her though. I also didn’t like Jennie’s mambo.
Cameron has gotten way better than he was at the start (and Edyta found her old costumes again, leg warmers & headbands and all). Helio came back a bit. I liked Mel & Maks (I consistently like Mel & Maks).
I hope not. Although admittedly, that’s because of my pro-Jane biases coming into the show, not because last night’s dance did anything for me. I was highly disappointed that she was in the bottom two last week.
And my sentiments with respect to Marie are similar–though with less irrational fondness based on previous knowledge of her talents. I like seeing someone who isn’t young and slim perform well.
I really want a woman to win this year, especially since the women who are left are so much more talented than the men who have departed.
If Helio wins, that would be ok, too. I’m not a fan of Cameron–or Jenny, though I’m not sure why.
I thought all of the dances last night were pretty mediocre, and I wondered if it had to do with having to do two dances.
I also thought that the fix was in on some of the judging. For instance, I thought that Mel’s dance was good, but ultimately not very impressive. I also thought that, given that she was smiling pleasantly thoughout, there was no particular tension or drama on an emotional level. Nevertheless, the judges went bananas over it, calling it perfect and dramatic enough to bring tears to Carrie Ann.
I thought Jenny was awful. There were several times that she was clearly off again - very badly and very obviously. Her hip movements weren’t very pronounced, and she just seemed tight and uncomfortable - but the judges loved her.
Sabrina, again, was the best. Tight and entertaining, but for once, I could see in spots where she did seem to power through things that might have needed a bit more subtlety.
Helio and Julianne were good - better than last week. Perhaps it’s not fair to Helio, but there are several moves that Julianne always seems to put in there, and they are getting pretty tired and worn out, in my opinion.
Marie should win the award for having to dance to the worst music of the week. That paso music sounded like a circus caliope version of a Strauss march, and really undercut any drama that she might have been able to whip up. On the other hand, her moves lacked a lot of passion. Jonathan looked cool doing all the guy stuff for the paso, but that didn’t help Marie out as she danced in place on the side.
Cameron was good, but the dance overall seemed unfocused, and he had an unfortunately obvious misstep at the end. He’s still much better than a few weeks back.
Jane. Poor Jane. I like Jane a lot, but damn, that just wasn’t the dance for her. for some reason, her shoes looked huge on her, and I think that enhanced the sense that she was having trouble lifting them, bouncing on them and kicking them.
I really thought the group dance was entertaining, and some of the moves were really impressive. I liked the little move at the end, although I worried about Marie having to hang there with all the blood rushing to her head for so long (and I really wouldn’t have wanted to see Marie in that position). I was pleased to see Julianne in that position, however, and as I told my wife, I could walk around all day with Julianne in that position. (My wife is very special to put up with me. I realize this.)
I missed Jane, Jenny, and all but the last few minutes of Cameron.
Yes, Mel’s rhumba was that good. I think Maks has a real gift for teaching that one - it’s been the best dance of several of his students. It was subtle (unlike most dances on this show), and the technique was really excellent. He chose to put in a lot of really basic syllabus steps, which Len mentioned in his commentary. That’s an unusual choice, not because the basics are too easy, but because it’s really really hard to do them well. Mel was as up to the task as anything we’ve seen on this show, in any season. She didn’t look like a pro, but she’d do just fine in a gold or even prechamp amateur competition.
I just read that Marie is claiming the judges have an age bias and “want to get rid of the old chicks”. Frim USA Today’s website:
Jane is disappointing me, too. Suck it up, sweetheart. You should’ve known what you were getting into.
StG
Anyone who thought it was a level playing field did not spend as much time investigating the show before going on as she (or he) should have. Seriously, between pre-existing fan bases, major age differences, differences in prior dance knowledge, etc. the playing field can’t really be level.
And Jane has gotten plenty of praise when it was appropriate for her elegance on stage–but she wasn’t a good match for last night’s dance.
Grr. I think I’ll pretend I didn’ t read that.
There is an age bias because most sports, dancing included, have an innate age bias. Pit a 20 year old kid against a 45 year old man in just about any sport and you’ll have a lopsided competition. As we age we lose flexibility, endurance, even memory.
I think Jane should, and will, go. Her jive was the worst I’ve ever seen on the show. It lacked energy and bounce. Heather Mills kicked her ass with one leg. Nonetheless Jane is beautiful and should be proud of herself for making it so far.
Oh, and as far as dance experience, I think it’s fairly obvious to anyone that Jane has been practicing ballet for years. Didn’t she even say in the beginning that dance was her “passion”? And Marie used to host a variety show, which meant that she had to learn choreography quickly. So she has the same experience that Sabrina and Mel have – just 30 years ago.
Results show has aired on the East coast.
Sabrina and Mark? What. The. Fuck.
I’m still reeling in shock. Can’t say I was a huge fan, but I certainly didn’t dislike her, and the surprise of it almost brought me to tears.
I guess Marie got all the sympathy votes, and people forgot to vote for the good ones…
