The fact that we are not mentioned leads me to believe that maybe we are not going to be that important, ( maybe even not exist anymore).
So, I don’t know about “safe”.
Nah, because the US is mentioned by the Mormons somewhere.
More importantly, Daniel is apocyalptic. Like Revelations in the Greek scriptures, it is written in code and almost didn’t make it into the Hebrew scriptures.
(That’s why Maccabees and some other books are apocryphal for Protestants–the Hebrew compilers decided to reject all scrolls written in Greek instead of Hebrew, giving the total of 24 books (39 with the way it was broken up when translated into Greek) while the RC and Orthodox kept those. Overall, the Protestant denominations then decided to go only with what is in the Hebrew scriptures, plus the RC was doing some things they didn’t like and justifiying with the apocryphal books. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.)
Anyway, sorry about the hijack. As I said, like Revelations, Daniel almost wasn’t included. It’s an underground protest book. As others like Captain Amazing have said:
Antiochus IV was the guy who sacrificed a pig on the high altar in Jerusalem.
I don’t believe there is even evidence for a King Nebuchadnezzer during the Babylonian captivity; plus, it doesn’t make any sense as the Babylonians weren’t exactly repressive to the Hebrews during captivity (the top 10 percent were moved in the first exile, Ezekiel prophesied during the exile, people were allowed to have their homes, trades, etc.), this ain’t the Assyrians we’re talking about here.
The only way to understand Daniel is to recognize its place in history, which is underground writing, written in a style that makes perfect sense when you are a part of the community with the knowledge and background to understand it, and an amusing tale when you’re not part of the community. Any other interpretation, such as the ones listed here about the EU, are completely bogus and are a result of trying to force the Bible to fit what one wants to say, not what the Bible says.
I had a class in Old Testament: History and Literature and I’m not afraid to use it!
Actually, Jersey,
the main emphasis in the Later Days will be Israel, so I agree we will be insignificant, or maybe most of us will be gone by then!
assuming that a lot of “End-Times” Bible prophecy has yet to be fulfilled (which is debatable)- this is what I think are the possible fates of North America…
Btw, the timing of the Rapture (pre/mid/post-Tribulation) may affect this also. I am a late/post-Trib Rapturist.
Our political system joins with the “Western”/Euro/Mediterranean Coalition that upholds the Beast. Some have even seen the ten
federal regions which the USA is partioned into as being the ten horns;
North America actually maintains independence from the European Beast as a free power/refuge for resisters (“Lady Israel/the Bridal Church” is taken by “Eagles wings” into “the
Wilderness” of Revelation 12.) Indeed, we may be the last bastion of Christendom- and/or the regathering of the Lost Tribes
(which I regard as including all races & ethnicities, not just the Anglo-Saxon as some claim)
A combination of the above- Politically, we are dominated by the Beast, but practically, we may not be totally subjugated to it so that we maintain more freedom & resistance to it than other areas.
In other words, I dunno!
