I don’t have any opinion on the movie, but it does give me an excuse to quote from the Mary Tyler Moore Show…
Ted: Knock, knock. Come on, Mary, knock, knock!
Mary: (exasperated) All right, Ted, who’s there?
Ted: Anna Maria Alberghetti.
Mary: Anna Maria Albergetti who?
Ted: Anna Maria Alberghetti in a taxi, honey! Gonna see ya 'bout half past eight…
Cast joins in: Now, Honey, don’t be late.
I wanna be there when
the band starts playing
Remember when we get there, Honey
Two steps, I’m gonna have a ball
I’m gonna dance off both my shoes
When they play those Jelly Roll Blues
Tomorrow night at the
Dark Town Strutters Ball.
This is a (politcally incorrect by today’s standards) song written in 1917 called Darktown Strutters’ Ball (written by a Canadian, interestly enough), which is no doubt where the blaxploitation film got its title.
