It wasn’t too bad really; much drier than what most wine coolers tasted like at the time, and with a sort of undefinable citrus taste. Not nearly as intensely flavored or sweet as I recall alcopops as typically being.
I think Zima may have been one of the first malt-based alcoholic beverages that wasn’t beer; basically they brewed non-hopped beer, filtered as much flavor as they could out, and then flavored it to taste.
When I think of Zima, I immediately think of Babylon 5. Zima was one of the first really obvious product placements in a TV show that I remember. I don’t know what I expected, but I remember being disappointed by it.
I’ll admit I didn’t think this was a whoosh until the part about no air conditioning, a feature and not a bug, air conditioning being “so artificial”. It damn well better be, at least better than the natural, hot air shit outside.
