Just wanted to start a thread to discuss the series finale. IMHO, I liked the ending, you can tell it was written by the series creator, it was probably one of the better episodes I’ve ever seen. I won’t say more because
a)I don’t know if it’s been shown out west
2)I haven’t quite figured out how to run those stupid spoiler boxes.
This was one of the four, possibly five episodes that I’ve seen. I knew enough of the background stuff to know who was whom, the basic personalities, & that Joey was notorious for her indecision.
All in all, a good episode. Joey wound up with the person I’d have chosen, Jack got what he wanted, etc. It was a little maudlin (you know what I mean) and a little cheesy what with all the in-jokes, but whatever, I can overlook that.
Used to watch Dawson’s Creek, tuned in to the last two eps because whatever I usually watch on Wednsday night wasn’t on.
Yeah, I wanted Joey with Pacey, hell I wanted to be with Pacey. Cried through-out the movie but strike that up to a stressful last couple of weeks and PMS.
Couldn’t figure out who was gonna die but figured it would be whats-her-name. The wedding in the promo had me worried about who Joey would choose and then of course it turns out to be Dawson dreaming.
A good conclusion, so can we look forward to a reunion movie down the road?
Speaking as someone who’s stuck it out since the pilot, this was a great finale. Due to the downfall of this show over the past three seasons, I did not have my hopes up for being happy with the way it ended. I was pleasantly surprised.
I’m glad that Kevin Williamson(the show’s creator) came back to write the finale. IMO, his love for the characters really shone through.
It was about damn time that Dawson and Joey came to terms with the fact that, while they undoubtedly had a special relationship, it wasn’t meant to be a romantic one.
I’m glad Joey ended up with Pacey. Those two always made each happy.
Jen handled the fact that she was dying with amazing maturity and grace. The scene when she made a tape for her daughter was lovely. It could have been cheesy, but Michelle Williams pulled it off nicely. When Jen finally broke down, admitted she was scared, didn’t want to leave her daughter alone, etc., it just about killed me. Michelle owned this episode. Her scenes with Jack left me teary eyed as well. Not to mention her death scene with Grams- “I’ll see you soon, child.” Sniffle.
Since the Doug/Jack storyline just came about this ep, I wasn’t really invested in it, so meh. I’ve always loved both characters, though, so I guess I am happy they ended up together(raising Jen’s baby, too. Aw.)
All in all, I thought it was a great episode.
I didn’t catch exactly what it was, but she had developed some sort of heart disease/abnormality. It wasn’t established until the finale- remember, it jumped ahead 5 years in the future. At the start of the show only Jen and Grams knew. I don’t think it was ever said how old the baby was, but she looked to be about a year old.
That said, I wish I had dropped the show after the third year- that was the last really good season. But I saw it through to the not so bitter end.
Strangely, it was plot-wise exactly as I expected it to be. The only detail I was missing was that it never occured to me that any of them would’ve had a kid, but yeah okay, five years later… Otherwise, eveyrthing I guessed was smack on target. And I guessed based entirely on a fifteen second commercial promo about the show – I’ve never watched it regularly. And when I saw the kid, I said to my SO, “oh, I get it, Jack is going to raise the baby.”
One thing that always amazes me – the cast looks so much shorter than they are in real life.
I hate this time of year when the TV schedule gets outta whack.
Shouldn’t Pacey have been in worse shape after his “fun” with the three large gentlemen? Did they just give him a poke in the eye and a good talking to?
I’ve only seen the last few episodes. My wife suddenly got into the show, so I had to watch too. In my opinion, it’s a terribly written show saved by a cast with an abundance of charisma.
Someone please tell Kevin Williamson that he shouldn’t pull the “lead the audience to believe one thing and then do the opposite thing” trick 8 times in a two-hour program. Joey’s going to choose Pacey, no it’s Dawson, it’s Pacey, it’s Dawson, it’s Petey, it’s Colby, no really it’s Pacey. This wasn’t a well-written character who couldn’t decide what she wanted; it was a character written to intentionally mislead the viewer. Maybe earlier episodes fleshed this out better, but the final episode was played merely to trick you. By the end, I wanted Joey to die and Dawson and Pacey to finally consummate their love/hate relationship.
Anyone wanna do a full-blown, no holds barred synopsis? I didn’t get a chance to watch it, but wish I would’ve, and I’d appreciate a recap. Or is the day after still too soon (spoilers, you know)? I, too, used to watch faithfully, but haven’t tuned in since, oh, halfway through season two or early season three, I guess. Will it be rebroadcast anywhere?
Enquiring minds need to know. And Josh Jackson’s hot.
I was suprised how well they handled Jen dying. It was very tasteful for an overgrown teen drama. When Jack said they were soulmates I was dripping with tears cause they really were. I loved the idea of being soulmates without having to be lovers or in love, romantic-wise.
The idea of Alexander and Lily being the next generation’s Joey and Dawson was really corny though.
Joey picking Pacey? Well, after considering my own romantic entanglements I can see her going for him. Anyone who’s ever loved someone and looked past all their fuck-ups and problems to the real beauty underneath should be able to relate. :)
I noticed from looking at the program information in my TiVo that Meredith Monroe (the actress who plays Andie) was listed as a guest star, but I sure didn’t see her either. Who knows, maybe they cut her part in the editing room?
Hmph. It was okay, I suppose. That’s the best review I’ve ever given any episode of Dawson’s Creek, so you’ve got to understand that this is really, sort of, a postitive review. I despise this show, but it’s a weird kind of loathing with which comes a kind of attraction. I watch the show every week just in order to loathe it some more. I’m a sick person, y’know?
See, I really kinda hate everyone on this show except for Pacey (oh! And Grams!), so I’m glad that he ended up happy, even if it was with stupid annoying Joey. The meta-without-being-clever drama that Dawson was producing was just too much, but at least it gave him something to obsess about besides Joey. Anyway, Jen and Jack did good work this week, and we all love Grams so it was sad to see her get hurt, but the storyline was so contrived I just about gagged. And the cliche let’s-make-a-tape-for-my-daughter thing? Gack.
I guess I’m just glad it’s over, so I don’t have this strange obsession hanging over me anymore…
Correct. Andie’s scenes were (unfortunately) left on the cutting room floor. I wish we had at the very least gotten a mention of what she was up to, though. Even Audrey got that courtesy.
Excuse my ignorance–I’ve never watched Dawson’s Creek, so I know absolutely nothing about it–but I was flipping around the other night and caught a few minutes during the beginning of the series finale. Was that Jeremy Sisto (Billy Chenowith in Six Feet Under)? I’ve never seen Dawson’s Creek listed among his credits, so maybe it was someone else. If it was him, was he a regular or was it just a guest appearance?
