Hopper’s actions tonight apparently have horrific consequences–more so than usual–for his neverending day.
Very good episode…I loved the interconnectedness of everything.
One question though: WHO was the girl who shot Chad? And was that Hopper’s sister in the limo at the end?
I don’t think we need spoiler tags here, do we?
I thought it was his sister that killed Chad, but that really didn’t seem right.
I continue to like this show - I hope they manage to keep up the coolness - oh, and not get cancelled.

Great episode. I liked the way that he kept trying different ways to confront Detweiler. I wonder if Detweiler ended up getting killed at the end of the day in all of them?
I think it was his sister who both shot Chad and was in the limo at the end. She is obviously a little more involved than we thought…
I thought that was her too – definitely a WTF moment. This series has managed to have a few of those – one was when the phone unexpectedly rang in the morning, and we saw that Hopper’s actions can apparently create a permanent change in the day, if he makes a strong enough emotional impression on somebody. (I know that doesn’t seem logical, but then the very premise of the show is pretty impossible.)
So if that is Hopper’s sister (Jennie, right?) then I don’t know what that means, except that it’s got to be connected to the history with their dad. (Did his father commit suicide?)
Another good twist was that Detweiler, the mysterious shadowy figure we’ve been glimpsing in every episode, is apparently just another level of expendable henchman, with an even mysteriouser, shadowier figure behind him.
(Possible cheat: when Hopper first confronted Detweiler, and understandably exploded and started beating him up, Detweiler’s wife got the drop on Hopper with a shotgun. Then they cut directly to the next Day, with Hopper trying again. But what happened the rest of that first day? Did Hopper get arrested and jailed again? Did he make a break for it, or have to shoot Mrs. Detweiler? Obviously he survived – since unlike Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, his body doesn’t “reset” along with everything else – but it couldn’t have been a picnic.)
I’m actually starting to like Chad after last week’s episode, when he seriously considered Hopper’s story and made some intelligent comments. Also, I liked how he told the same story Rita had (about stopping to try and save an injured dog on their honeymoon trip). The same incident that made her think they didn’t belong together, made him love her more, and they probably never told each other that.
Looks like Hopper’s bullet wound has healed enough that he doesn’t have to put on the same bandage every morning anymore. But wouldn’t Rita notice a new scar suddenly appearing? Never mind – let’s not ruin a good show with nitpicking.
When I first heard about this show, I wondered how they could so shamelessly lift the “Groundhog Day” premise. But it’s really too good a premise not to be used more, and they’re going in an entirely different direction. It’s nice to be pleasantly surprised by a show.
I’m starting to like Damien Ortiz. Technically a bad guy, but darnit, the kid’s got moxie.
Is that the gang member? He really started annoying me with his, “Look Hop, I an’t even supposed to be in this man, I gots my own problems to fix”.
It’s like all of Dante’s “I’m not even supposed to BE here today” compressed into half an hour…

I had the same thought about the bullet wound. I wanted her to say, “Hey! Where did you get that scar on your chest? I don’t remember it being there last night!”
Yeah, mee, too. And I also thought it was sis who shot Chad, although I have no clue as to why she would do that.
Hey, we finally had a worthwhile “Lost” clue last night if anyone caught it:
Cindy is alive, and on the Alcatraz island!
Yeah I got the impression that his father committed suicide too. They also hinted at some sort of mental illness also. That makes me think of The Butterfly Effect, maybe his dad had the same “living the same day” problem as Hopper does but couldn’t deal with it anymore (or decided the only way to fix things was to off himself).
Yeah, that would have been interesting to see. I’m assuming he got arrested, and ended up in jail for the Garza murder like usual. But normally him getting caught ends with him being taken to the quarry, but I wonder if that would have happened since he knew who the “quarry guy” was already.
Man, I was on the edge of my seat wondering how he’d survive the skinhead attack. I like how that turned out, as usual he managed to change the sequence just enough. Though I’m not sure the grenade under the car wouldn’t harm the occupants at all…
As usual, good episode.
If it were a real grenade instead of a movie grenade, it wouldn’t have hurt them much, if at all, with the underbelly of the SUV between them and it.
I’d been wondering about Cindy all this time…
Hey, my tape cut off right after the guys in the quarry shot the guy because Hopper came to his house. Was there something after that?
Yes. They shot his knees out, so he couldn’t get up. Then the used one of the huge dump trucks to dump salt on him, and essentially bury him alive.
I can’t remember if that was the last scene or not?
Right before the ‘salting’, Detweiler told main thug, “Next time, it could be you.” Then we see hidden bad guy speaking to the sister(?), talking about the difference between sending messages and punishing (or setting examples - fuzzy memory). I also think the gang dude got the drop on the skinheads chasing him this time around, and perforated them.
(Sorry about the lack of names, but other than Brett Harper, Chad, and the dead Garza, I don’t remember anyone else’s name)
BTW, you can see all the “Lost Moments” over at Lostpedia.com. There are transcripts, too.
Bummer. The sand dump scense was one of the best in the episodes.
I have a suggestion for someone who’s really into this show-- how about starting a “what we know” thread. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to keep track of what Hooper has figured out so far. And did we get 7 new iterations last night?
