Daylight saving starts this weekend...

which is good, because I’m tired of being woken up at 4.30am by the koels singing outside my bedroom window. Also, it means that summer and the Christmas holidays aren’t far off.

Hate it, hate it, hate it!

Here in Las Vegas, I will be driving home from work tomorrow with some daylight.

But come Monday, I will be driving home and it is like fuckin’ midnight…everybody then drives like little old ladies, traffic will suck, and by the time you get home, you feel like you might as well go to bed because it looks like it is the middle of the night.

Just realized you are from DownUnder, so I guess you are now getting the “fun” part of daylight savings.

My brother lives in Arizona, and they don’t have daylight savings time there.

Wish they would ban it here too!

While Australia will be starting Daylight Saving Time, commonly called “summer time,” those of us in the northern hemisphere will be ending it. I’m definitely an advocate for having DST all year long. Never having to switch the clocks will help productivity/missed work from time-shifting induced “jet lag”, and the sun will also stay up later into the afternoon. Right now, in NY, we have Sunrise at 7:32am, and Sunset at 5:57pm EDT. I’m not looking forward to next week, when it will be setting at 4:57pm EST instead!!

Daylight saving time ends in England this Saturday. On the down side, it’s going to be dark at 4 PM. On the plus side, Halloween Saturday will be one hour longer!

I’m going back to Australia for three months soon, so I’m going to have my third summer in a row.

Shit we started 2 or 3 weeks ago, for NO bloody good reason! The weather is still shite here. I have jealously been looking at the Aussie temps. Daylight saving starts far too early and ends too bloody soon for NZ weather.

We just get an extra hour of daylight to admire the rain. :frowning: Hopefully summer will arrive mid Jan.

It’s the other way 'round here. Starts too late, ends too late.

Suckers.

Bloody Aussies always rubbing it in!

Standard time sucks. I’m moving to Australia now.

But they don’t have it in Western Australia. V. confusing.

When the sun is at zenith, it should be noon. Period!

Fuck the consequences!

I’d rather be on standard time anyway. During the high summer, the sun rises at about 6:30a and sets around 8:30p. This of course means it’s twilight or brighter from around 5a - 9:30p. Do you realize how freaking unnatural that seems? (When you first get here, anyway. After a while, you just adapt to it as another of Florida’s absurdities.)

If we stayed on standard, our mornings would start waking up around 4 and night would be officially underway after about 8. Back on standard during the winter, and sunup to sundown is ~7a - 6p. This seems reasonable to me.

Daylight savings time in Florida just doesn’t make any sense.

Me, too. Go to work in the dark, come home in the dark . . . By spring I’ve devolved into one of those white cave fish with no eyes.

Don’t you all wish you could join me here in 19th century Indiana, where we have no daylight saving time?

Yeah, me neither.

Huh! I thought it was bad enough that our smug Aussie friend, Cunctator, had a summer time, but now Munch has a time machine?

I feel deprived! And I will feel even more cold and dark and deprived after chanigng the blasted clocks :frowning: .

I’m looking forward to switching back to standard time, for two reasons: (1) I will no longer have to wake up in the dark, which is Wrong, and (2) the Extra Hour Of Sleep that we get on changeover day. I love the Extra Hour Of Sleep. I wish we could have an Extra Hour every day. So what if it would screw with daylight and darkness times; that would just make things Interesting.

Damn, I have to be up in the mountains before dawn, so I guess I have to get up at 3:30 instead of sleeping in until 4:30. Oh well, maybe the hunting will pay off.

We’ve tried that.

I have never cared about Daylight Savings vs. Standard Time but always liked the extra hour of sleep I got in the switchover every Autumn.

Considering how bad I’ve been sleeping lately, I’ll enjoy it even more this year.

Stupid daylight saving time. It takes me a couple of weeks to get my sleep schedule back on track.

Plus, I live near arizona so half of the stations stay the same but others move the time they air programs. Prime time starts at six pm, unless it’s at seven, although they disregard the change for some programs. All the more reason to turn the damned tv off.
