917 works for me now.
To those new to using Ventrilo: you need run as administrator to chat in-game.
Ah yes, windows 7 requires programs to have administrative authority to monitor keypresses in other programs as a defense against keyloggers. To use push to talk, right click the ventrilo shortcut, go to compatability, and check run as administrator.
We don’t have to stay on 917 except to interact with objects (tents, vehicles) specific to that server - the tent farm we’re raiding tonight is on 917, but we can switch servers after - and I would prefer to do so to get one with nametags.
Anyway, hop on ventrilo now.
I am SOOO bitter. When I first caught wind of this, I checked Amazon. I could have gotten discs for ARMA:CO for like, 4 bucks.
A week later, Day Z is everywhere, and it’s essentially back to original price. Ugh.
I died twice alone, in the woods, scared and hungry. No zombies. Thanks a lot, guys…
It’s so quietly tragic, isn’t it? You’re in the middle of the woods, a bird flies overhead. You look around in all directions but all you see are trees, maybe a mountain rising in the distance. Then you just sort of.. lay down and die.
Not even the zombies will find your corpse.
Well that was a long night.
We raided the insane camp with 20+ tents and accidentally discovered that there was another camp 200m away with even more tents. We robbed what we could and geared up 8 people. Headed down to cherno keeping an eye on potential vehicle spawns - tried to enter the city from the west and pulled about 50 zombies… came back out, approached from the north, set up on the hospital.
I’ve had my longest life by far - I’ve been alive for about 25 hours. So I’m on the hospital roof, laying down near the edge of the roof looking for targets with freelook on. I stand up, there’s what appears to be a guy on my left, but far enough away that I can’t quite see him due to the edge of the building, so I try to turn in that direction and… it turns out I’m still in freelook. I take 1 step forward, meaning to take a step in the new direction, but because I’m in freelook I instead take 1 step forward, which is all it takes to send me off the hospital roof. Yep, alive for 25 hours, survived firefights and dangerous raids, and I die because I accidentally took one step off a roof.
Richard Parker then apparently distraught over my death decided to commit suicide and follow me to the grave.
I got lucky and spawned near my gear, so I collected everything (except the ghillie suit, damn it, my most prized possession), get back on the roof, and then promptly shoot Lute Skywatcher in the chest with a .50 cal round. I reacted too fast - I saw a guy coming up on the hospital who might’ve seen me, and he hadn’t spoken in at least an hour, and I just totally forgot that “skywatcher” was a friendly. Reacted too fast, shot him in the chest, boom, dead.
On the plus side we were able to hold the area long enough for both of them to run back and loot their corpses. Corpses seem to stay around for at least 40 minutes, I was told they had a 15 minute life before they dissapeared. Everyone was able to get their gear back and we didn’t lose anything but the ghillie suit.
Activity was surprisingly low in cherno. We ended up capping maybe 4 random stragglers.
This:
Is hilarious! Would have loved to see that!
S I guess since you guys are a team if someone dies, and is lucky enough to spawn close enough, the rest of the party just guards the gear/corpse until you can get back over there? Its interesting because when you respawn you are completely vulnerable with nothing all over again…and there’s a good chance if you have to navigate very far to regroup with the team that you’ll have a nasty encounter with someone or something.
I thought I had announced that I was coming in from behind the condos. Either I’m mistaken or there were two of us talking simultaneously.
Hop on vent if you want in with us.
My goal is staying alive with weapons/food and drinks. Currently I have an Enfield with 50 rounds of ammo, 2 sodas a full water canteen, a can of sardines, hunting knife, hatchet, and another pack. (forget the name of it) I am camping a water pump, not to kill yet, but to get an idea how long I can go without water so I can make my move from this point.
I would love to meet up, but watching your videos, makes me realize I would a liability. So I will wait until I get better!
I have a couple of (possibly stupid) questions:
If I play on a relatively empty server in an attempt to learn more about the game and to grab some gear…if I manage to stay alive can I save my character and bring anything I find with me to the server the rest of us are using? I’m guessing yes but I want to be sure.
Also…that map that Beef posted a link to…if I have that opened up when I start the game, how do I toggle between it and the game? I need to be able to figure out where I am going. Is there a better map than that one out there?
Thanks to a helpful Dr. Tran I am in a decent spot on my character to be helpful to the group! I slaughtered a cow, had a nice campfire and loaded myself up with steak. Which was needed as I decided to plug a zombie, and many other zombies took that as a dinner bell. I didn’t want to be the main course, so I took the high road, and ran. After turning and killing the zombies that gave chase I bandaged and ate some steak.
I am still staying within a 5 minute walk of a water pump, I have a canteen that likes that spot! I have a rifle and 5 mags, now I am waiting on joining you all!
You guess correctly.
It’s best to have the map on a second monitor, otherwise you’re tabbing between the two and won’t see what’s going on in the game with the map up.
Ouch, and now I start anew… People are deadlier than zombies…
Good news maybe! I ran back to my body, I seen a guy crawling toward it, I ran past him and got my rifle and as much as I could grab and ran like a mofo! Then the server crashed… I am loading now hoping upon hope it saved with my goodies… if not the good news becomes Bad News
ETA: Bad news, I spawned with nothing but the stuff I started with Stupid stupid game
Now I am really beginning to hate this game Made it to a barn, a decked out guy was hiding in the corner behind a bale of hay. I used my hatchet and started looting him, he had an alice pack, antibiotics, blood packs, everything a man could want. As I was looting him, his body disappeared. I was only able to get a few things, and that my friends, made me a sad murderer/
This is funny because the Lee Enfield in the game is actually known as the dinner bell for its tendency to piss off entire towns of Zeds when you fire it.
We all learn.
I’m really enjoying the times we get 4-8 of us on at once. We spent quite a bit of time yesterday terrorizing the city of Chernowhatever with overlapping zones of sniper fire. Even pitched a tent in a really obvious place hoping to lure people in (didn’t work, but the concept is strong). Now that we are getting a better understanding of the world and its dangers, the game is turning into more of a “play for keeps hunt for the most dangerous predator: man”. I love it!
Now if they could only get most/all the bugs figured out. My hopes are high for the stand-alone game coming out in a few months.
Editing to add a video of our run-in with an enemy sniper last night. You can hear from our voices on Ventrillo that you get one heck of an adrenaline rush when being fired at, since it is so rare.
A bunch of us logged out in cherno in position to take over the city. We’ll probably play later. Everyone should head towards Cherno - if you’re ungeared we’ll try to kill someone and you can take their gear.
Day Z commander got a patch to fix the server refresh issue - go into the program, hit the versions button, then tell it to update itself.
